Dropped into one today in Enniscorthy, he said it couldn't be done without a specialist machine.... Told him it was on a ribbon, he had a look at something on his pc and then said that if I left the phone with him for about 2 weeks he'll have a look at it :) might try around though..

I've been considering doing that but the part comes with glue to keep it in place and I'm concerned that I might do some damage lifting it out again. The other thing is, I watched a vid on utube and the guy was cleaning the circuit boards with pure alcohol, I didn't have any and didn't want to risk something else so just left it, kid of regretting that now.

Having problems with the battery on this phone, when its fully charged, and I unplug the charger, the battery full icon remains. It also seems to be overheating the battery a lot, and its draining quicker.

The other day also I turned the phone off, and when I turned it on the phone would not come on, instead showing a battery icon with a thermometer beside it.

Any ideas? I have a few different batteries, and its the same issue so it makes me think it may be the phone and not the battery.

Same issue as above , charge /data port.
It's covered under warranty or 40eu if you can't wait

Right, if you haven't used Miui yet but you know how to get it, do it now... I was on cm and dual booted miui for a quick look. Love it.

It really is like havin a brand new awesome phone.. And the Music Player alone has be going out later to buy the biggest card I can find for the phone.

I got cmiui jb version. Might post screen shots.

Hmm - it said that it was installed, then RR started up, and I followed instructions on the thread to install.

Do I need CM before I can use it?

I wiped data delvik cache nd when I installed from internal SD card through siyah clockwordmod, I got a miui installer.. like a gui. Xda is the place for questions, I can only report what worked for me unfortunately.

That was as a secondary ROM install..

    Are you dual-booting?

Whoa, that's the i9100G forum you're in there, I dunno how well that'd play with the regular i9100.

I'm playing around with CMIUI now too and it is quite nice, but has a bit to go with jellybeans tbh. The music player is epic though. Does anyone know if it would be possible to take just the music app from CMIUI for use on other roms?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Nah I didnt like it at all and just updated to the last stable RR

I've spent some time mixing skins and launcher plus pro and it looks great.. Music player is the best part, automatically downloading songs with lyrics straight to the library. Think you can get it on other ROMs. Read somewhere that you can install it as a zip from cwm.

Got a linky with that? I'd rather go back to RR to be honest. I miss all of my customisation options but would love to keep the music player from CMIUI.

Hmm, I've found the following apk's but they don't look quite the same as the CMIUI music app:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517441

    **EDIT**

Never mind. It's not possible apparently. Here's a quote from the guy that created one of the above apps on XDA. :(

You can't. It requires the MIUI framework now

Just an update on my charging port... I opened the phone took the 'new' usb ribbon out and then refitted it.. closed up the phone, exactly the same! Nothing! Just my luck, bought a faulty new usb ribbon to replace my original usb ribbon! So today I opened the phone again, took out the new usb ribbon and put the old one back in.It's back to the old problem of charging but when I unplug the charger it gives me the message of over voltage or something... Will be bringing it to that shop in Dublin me thinks!! Will update further when I get to Dublin..

  • Registered Users Posts: 477 ✭✭dwaned

Update... Got to that shop on Talbot street, thanks subway. They replaced the usb port with a new one, didn't work. Exact same as when I replaced mine, does nothing, not even register that you've plugged it in. Had to put the old one back in again!! They don't know what is wrong with it but may be a software problem. Thinking the same my self now, software or firmware.. Anyone any ideas?? gonna try over on XDA too..

just got the Galaxy s2, i want to be able to check delivery reports but not receive them or at least change the tone to a different one from the sms. Is this possible? All i want to do is check them manually if i want to.
Its very annoying to send a message and then you have to check if the message alert is a delivery report or a new sms.

If you use Handcent app then if the message is delivered a green tick appears beside the message.

Can anyone link to a completely beginner guide to putting some sort of custom firmware on my S2? I'd like to think I'm fairly tech savvy but just have no idea what the best ROM would be or anything like that.

ROMs come in a few categories:
Stock - Official Samsung ROM (with TouchWiz UI)
AOSP - basically Vanilla Android, nothing added from Samsung/HTC etc, Vanilla UI
AOKP - AOSP with Extras, 15 toggles, custom kernels etc.
CyanogenMod - Also AOSP with Extra features but used for a base of most custom ROMs
MIUI - Chinese ROM, looks completely different to Stock (also comes with English language)

I'm currently keeping an eye on this thread on XDA (click on the Show Content buttons), waiting for a JellyBean ROM with the hwcomposer working which is the "Project Butter" thing that eliminates lag in JellyBean.
I think Revolt or Resurrection Remix versions of JellyBean are decent looking.

If you currently have stock on your phone you can flash a kernel, called ClockWorkMod or CWM, this lets you update to ROMs much easier, you would need to download it to your SD card and then reboot your phone into Recovery mode, then download to your SD card and apply the mod through the recovery menu in a similar way (after wiping the cache and resetting stuff in the menu, it differs for some ROMs but generally a clean install is preferred).
