Kotaku gave it a pretty good review. They don't do scores, but say it's definitely worth buying with a very compelling story.

Destructoid have given it a very positive review: http://www.destructoid.com/review-sleeping-dogs-232834.phtml

Edge, meanwhile, are very so-so about it: http://www.edge-online.com/reviews/sleeping-dogs-review

Gamecentral, those other admirable cynics, are a tiny bit more favourable: http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/908461-sleeping-dogs-review-true-crime-story

Sounds like a good enough emulation of Hong Kong action cinema, but lacking in the open world aspect (submissions etc...) and story. Although other reviews seem to praise the story. Oh, the complexity of subjectivity!

I really like this review of the game and its making me look more forward to this game (if that's possible!).

Also like this review and it's the first one that actually reviews the PC version and not the console - only disappointment was about the controls though I'll make my own mind up on that.
Though I only played the E3 demo on a 360, it looked butt ugly compared to PC. If you can play this on PC, you absolutely should. Make no mistake, this is some straight-up next gen **** right here! Just be sure to bring a controller because the keyboard/mouse controls are as terrible as you may expect. The only thing worse than pulling off combos with a keyboard is driving with one, so I don't blame the developer.

    :D

I might actually pick it up due to the positive reviews.
I'll wait till the users here actually start posting their thoughts, I'm not one for "critics" such as Eurogamer.
Has GrumpyPants posted yet ? :P

It it AAA priceworthy ....or should we be waiting a few months for it to come down ?

If anyone's looking to get it on the pc, you can get it for €29.99 on G2Play. €15 quid cheaper then buying it directly from Steam. Might pick it up myself.

How reliable are they for key delivery? Would that also include the bonus dlc?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,059 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

You'll get the key pretty much straight away. Longest i've had to wait is about 2 hours. If it's your first time buying, they might request that you send a photocopy of some id to them though. I had to do it once.

Not sure about the bonus, but i'd say it's included if it's included in the Steam version.

They are good yeah, customer support is decent too.
    Ive bought off them before.

I actually ordered it just as you replied to this message as recieved the key about 5 minutes later.

The joys of really slow, capped usage internet means I don't use Steam. :P

Are you getting this for the PC? In case you are and you want the free extra HD pack it's an additional 4GB download on top of the original game (5GB).

My preload is sitting at 9,324.3 MB.

Nah, 360. Don't have the funds to build a decent gaming rig atm.

Got the Limited Edition on Gamestop, so should have it Monday. Unfortunately, I've exams to sit in two weeks so it looks as if I won't get to put any meaningful time into this until September. :(

Thanks for review... made me happy of my purchase.

Was the review copy, the console or the PC version?

I just presumed it's the console version (xbox?) due to some of the remarks (e.g. graphics and controls).

    ----

What is steam like for unlocking? Are we looking at Midnight on Thursday or more into Friday?

That would be just delightful now wouldn't it be? :D

I'm really tempted to use a VPN to make Steam think I'm in America so I can unlock the game early but I see they have recently cracked down on this so don't want to tempt fate.

Its just sitting there now (fully download) teasing me :(

hopefully might get it tomorrow then, even though I wouldn't be able to play it anyway

I've taken Friday off work so I'm sorted! Only 1 and 1/2 days of work to go now! :D

I really hope we are not building this game up too much but based on what I've read and heard it looks to match those expectations (and then some)!

I have that same fear and that I will be mortally disappointed like I was with l.a noire

Has anyone downloaded this off Steam and got the HD texture pack ?

I've started my download and I'm half way done but haven't seen where to
    download the Texture pack.

Yeah I completed the pre-load then did the following.
You won't get into trouble for this as you already have valid licience for the game (see note below)
    Go to this page http://store.steampowered.com/app/202181/?cc=us
    Pass age gate
    Click Install
    Log in
After login you will get info that game is added to your library
    Go to Steam client/Library
Right click on Sleeping Dogs icon and on pause pre-load
Right click on Sleeping Dogs icon and resume pre-load

After this you should be at 59% download and new size will be about 9,3GB

    And official word on this:
The HD pack is the exact same pack for all users, just the EU store page isnt showing it.. The pre-requisite is that you have a valid license for the full game. So as long as your client has this added already (preload etc) then theres nothing stopping people going to the US store and adding to their client..

Just got shipping confirmation from Gamestop. :)

Unexpected, since I only paid for standard shipping, but still nice. Should have it on launch day unless something really goes wrong.
