Funny. The band of cloud almost right over me isn't showing up on any of the radars. Is that in any way unusual?

If we didnt get all that snow 2 weeks ago I would be really annoyed right now, judging by all the forecasts it's game over for the east already and I dont really mind. Most of us would rather be going out socialising getting on with the run up to Christmas rather than being house-bound cabin fever during Christmas which would be no fun at all.

Go for now casting as these things change quite a bit - doesn't usually happen when it rains though. Go a light snow shower this morning. Looking at Rain Today, Southern and Central England are getting plastered.

I hope the wind changes to an easterly then the streamers coming off the North Sea might hit us (as happened 3 weeks ago)

im just going by sky news and bbc which show nothing for us for next few days. They were right all along so far, BBC had no show forecasted for east Ireland over past few days while all the other forecasts were predicting loads. Met Eireann seem to be just guessing every few hours.

It's nice and sunny in North Dublin so I'm off to Howth for brunch! Take that 'snowmageddon'!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭MayoForSam

About 12-15cm in total lying here in NE Galway, sun is out but very watery looking, not much strength in it to melt anything but then it is almost the winter solstice.

Whiteout here from 2pm to 5pm yesterday and some further light dustings overnight have left us with approx 3 inches here, deeper in the fields etc. ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
Its mad cos only 15-20miles away only received a cm or 2

I agree about met eireann but to be honest i dont think any of them have a clue at the moment, things are changing even at just 6hrs out, that means snow is almost impossible to forecast for any one area at the moment. I just think that the easterly wind will bring showers in off the irish sea over the next few days and i wouldnt rule out anything more organised just yet.

The models are all over the place at the moment. The GFS is performing very badly short term, the ECM is flipping all over the place as to when we will see a breakdown, last night it showed cold until new years, today its showing a breakdown from the sw by christmas. The ukmo is showing cold north-easterleys for the next while and so im starting to get very confused. Hopefully things become clear soon.

    I will remain optimisticl. :)

its possible if the wind changes direction and streamers start building up in the irish sea

cloudy here for the last 40 minutes and nothing falling  14cm isn't enough for me :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭Brenireland

I think weathercheck should have an update thread!,he seems to be on the ball alot, considering he questioned the snow fall amounts etc...

So competition is needed & for now Im siding with Weathercheck knows his stuff.:D

Crossmolina Mayo not too bad. Had about an inch or two over last two days. Been snowing a lot but not really sticking as bad as it looks.
