Not really, hence it being more correctly referred to as climate change than global warming. Meteorologists have always said that melting ice caps will disrupt the Gulf stream and make north-western Europe's winters far more severe.

Yeah, must be, despite Met Éireann saying that 2010 is almost certain to rank in the top 3 warmest years since the beginning of instrumental climate records in 1850.

Damn them and their scentific data and empirical methods!

Will 2010 be warmer than 2009? (on trends)

    When was this said?
It's almost certainly not going to be one of the top 3 warmest years, its looking like being one of the coldest years from the past 10 anyway.

Very unlikely that it will be.

Thats a cooling then just like 2009 was cooler than 2008. Hence a cooling trend.

Any sign of the thaw? Great bright weather and getting walks in but jeez, this weather is heavy on the central heating.

Hot whisky here which is nice.

yes. There will be a thaw starting tomorrow, which will last for three- four days, then it may start to cool down again in the early days of next week.

    Wohoo!

Having spent over 3 hours making a journey that would normally only take 30 minutes, having being pulled out once by a tractor, dug out once and pushed up several hills, I have moved sides from a snow-lover to a thaw-watcher.

    Temp is -7.5c In Athy.

I must say the condition of roads and footpaths in Athy are very good thanks to residents and the Army.
was on the Northside of Dublin tonight and the footpaths are absolutely madness.
when the temp drops again next week, i can only see things getting mad, i feel sorry for the old and sick trying to get around this madness.
