So by not patching the spawning are they saying that it's ok the way it is  absolute joke the spawning is.

That's not the last patch they're doing, nor is it the first. They'll probably fix the spawn asap if people are complaining about it (they are). It's on the list for "in progess" patches so maybe they're fine tuning it before release in a smaller patch.

    Patience young padawan :D

I think it's great but no doubt alone in thinking that.

Keeps you on your toes and doesn't make things predictable like in COD4 and MW2(re: TDM I mean, where after a set amount of games on whatever map you could near on predict the next spawn point.

While I agree with you that it's not too easy to predict, I wish there was a certain distance between your character in which enemie's can't spawn. Nuketown fair enough, it's meant to be small and hectic. The likes of Array and Summit that are medium - large, they shouldn't be spawning behind you as much as they do.

The spawning system is just to try and help people from getting spawn trapped ( highrise anyone?) I think they should just tweak it a little so that they dont swap as much and that people dont spawn in your line of sight, otherwise its not too bad.

I had less connection problems and lag tonight anyway but still far from perfect. Ninja pro is working fine now. Not as good as in mw but it was kinda broken in those games, you could hear enemies from miles away. At least i can hear fools running up to knife me in the back now.

You know me man. I like a bit of a challenge :D that's why I'm thriving in Black Ops. How you see me play is like that of my COD4 days.

It prevents spawn trapping and the players who you and I saw who got these big scores in COD4, MW2(by far the worst overall re: spawn points) and WaW(?) are getting them less frequently if at all.

I can admit it's me just going haha at them somewhat, that and our connection improving and everyone's decreasing seemingly to a more level playing field(remember what I told you about of being double or triple your K/D if you had the same connection as some folk here ;)

Back on topic, I'm sure if this was a problem(random spawns) on MW2 where my connection was near as bad as yours half the time I'd be quite p'ed off to say the least.

Like I said, a bit of tweaking is needed to give a bigger distance from the central point of the map and the enemy.

(remember what I told you about of being the same as Sandy Ravage if you had the same connection as some folk here ;)

    FYP :D

Less predictable than Mw2, but not as stupidly placed as they are now.

At least sound whoring is back to an extent :)

I use Ninja religiously I'm sure you know. Fairly sure it's on all my classes in BO. Most of my classes in MW2 and Dead Silence(aka Ninja) featured in 3 out 5 classes in COD4.

But... I'd be glad IF that was removed too. Why? Because there was a bit of skill and use of the noggin when trying to meander your way through a map alternating when to crouch(silent) and when you regularly walked/sprint(not silent).

There a few things like Ninja I feel the same about such as claymores(I'm sure you remember I did use them a good bit in MW2 but more to cover one side of the map in objective games as I leg it around the other side. Haven't even bought claymores yet in BO. I wished they removed it all together

i dunno claymores are handy and they cant be abused as much this time around since you cant just replace them with scavanger . still not sure if there's some sort of scrambler-esk perk in black ops to counter them .

on another note big improvement there last night with the new patch . ive heard people say there are still some problems with lag (we'll never be rid of that :p) or spawning( only a few little fixes needed there im inclined to agree with ade) but mostly good . they should probably tweek the hardline pro a bit i got a gunship and dogs in one run last night between my care package and sam turret .....seems a tad unfair but i cant help myself :o. last stand needs to go bye bye . there was one game where the whole team was running it and for the next few games everyone i encountered i was in the habit of shooting for the chest then aiming down below them and pumping bullets into the ground instead of hitting the next guy coming

probably one of the biggest wastes of a 23mb download iv ever done

    the patch if ****ing useless

Gotta disagree totally here. Firstly, my download was only 6MB so maybe it was a different one, but I noticed a huge improvement.

    - When we were in a party, we got into lobby's very quickly. It dropped 1 out of the 5 of us once, but we went back out to pick them up and were back in another lobby in under a minute. Compare that with previous nights, and you'd have left the guy behind as you couldn't leave a precious lobby for fear it'd take another 30 mins to find the next one.
    - Myself and Shammy were in party of 2 for about 30 mins playing against Randoms. I think nearly everyone who came and went in the lobby over the few maps was on a 4 bar connection, so it's matchmaking seems hugely improved. There were a few games later when some friends joined session and they were on a 2 bar for some reason, but you can't blame Treyarc for that.
    - I noticed other people footsteps for the first time last night, so their Sound tweak has had an affect as well.

Overall, it's a long list of patches they've released in just 10 days!!! All done in such a way that they were able to get around Microsoft's rigorous testing policy (which would have delayed their release by weeks!) so hats off for whatever smarts they used for that.

The game itself didn't have any game-breaking unbalanced items in it from the start (alá Akimbo 1887's in MW2), so they had game balance bang on from Launch Day. Now they really appear to have fixed the other issues around party's, matchmaking etc, which they would have probably got fixed pre-release if Activision hadn't blocked them from having a public Beta testing phase. I'm seriously impressed with Treyarc over the crap we took from IW last year.

The last remaining bit is probably to tweak the spawns slightly. I agree with Ade that it's kind of good not to allow horrible spawn traps, as it means you have to actually focus on the game rather than shoot fish in a barrell. But it does need to be tweaked somewhat. I had one game in Hanoi last night. I went over into a corner to drop a carepackage, and killed a guy who was wandering past. I could have ignored him and he wouldn't have seen me, but force of habit ensured I pulled the trigger. I die 2 seconds later, and from looking in the killcam, he spawned inside the building directly behind me so had cover and total element of suprise. Not only that, but if I'd managed to kill him, the double spawn system had dragged one of his team mates in to spawn beside him, so there were actually 2 behind me with total element of surprise. That shouldn't really happen on Hanoi, as it's big enough to put them more than 10 metres away.

I think that just solidifies my point, the fact that blackops runs better on a 5 year old console(xbox) than it does on systems that are probably 3 or 4 times more powerful. Really has nothing to do with how the PS3 is in general but how poorly they ported the game. Post release jitters is all.

I can't really comment on PS3 issues as I don't have one, but in fairness I don't think anyone (Shammy) was blaming the console itself for this. I thought he said he'd played other games cross-platform and never seen a problem like this. Maybe I missed his point, but I took it that that he was giving out about the programming for the PS3 for BOps in particular...

I was giving out about Sony leaving a faulty game be released , because i said it was a shambles on ps3 , we had a few fanboys getting annoyed , i may have come across a bit fanboyish myself , but having both consoles i am entitled to my opinion . Lets get one thing straight if it was microsoft that was bad , i would have no hesitation in ranting about them.:)

Edit : i was able to play 5 games just now with no frame problems.....:)

Never had any problems on the xbox , it was a whole 5 games lag/stutter/framedrop free on the ps3 :)

I'm hoping that bit of down time last night might have sorted something out.

How exactly were they to know ????? Its not sony/ms job to test MP on a large scale !!! Im sure the game runs fine on a small scale !!! Im also not sure you know how the games industry work... There was just one ps3 fanboy(everyone else agreed it was a shambles on the ps3.. like it was on windows systems... oh... so microsoft didnt brother to check it ?)... all im doing is stating pretty obvious facts.

And yeah... i havent had frame rate issues for about 4 or 5 days... just random disconnects.

i thought i read somewhere that they had issues with the ps3 when showing it to the press. I think they knew well this would happen, and just planned to patch it as they went along. probably cheaper for activision as well having us as unofficial testers, and they will just pickup on the feedback from the bitching on the various forums.

obiviously i am envious of the xbox players, but i am stuck with the ps3. i will be happy if they can fix the problems soon, as it has not been out long, as i really enjoy the game when i get a lag/frame rate drop free game

Considering the publisher involved and both consoles have been on the market for a number of years . All 3 knew would have forecasted sales figure s , its not like this is the first cod out ?
Some problems like certain glitches cant be forseen (or maybe they can but they are on a deadline) but poor coding for one console for such a big game should have been properly dealt with.

Good to hear. Although I didn't have too much of a problem the whole 3 evenings I was on it , I'd still like to have the frame rate up to a high standard. Makes things so much easier.

Would I be right in thinking that it's the biggest selling cross-platform game on the market this year? Or would Red Dead/Fifa be ahead of it?

Either way, I would assume for such a massive game, the brands involved would have it in their best interest to try to ensure it didn't have huge launch problems. Fair enough if I was complaining about JoeBloggsShooter game that 20 people are going to buy, but when you get into Millions of sales, I'd have thought all the companies involved would have been working closely enough together to try to ensure as smooth a launch as possible.

Maybe I'm wrong in that though, and I've no idea what problems there are. I haven't a clue if it's unplayable bad, or just frustrating bad etc. Also, that's not a dig at Sony totally, as Activision are possibly as much to blame.

all parties are to blame . sony should have done more to ensure that they get a quality game for there platform . microsoft should show more business ethic and responsability and not start encouraging this business of buying their way to a better game . but most of all treyarch should have treated each platform fairly and equally rather than jumping through hoops for microsoft like that .

through it all though im a xbox user and ive benefited from it so i honestly cant say id have major issues with it :)

    HOT FIX: 19th November...

Improvements to the spawn system to resolve an issue where negative spawn influencers from specific game events were not always being deleted after danger had cleared. In some matches, this was causing good spawn to be erroneously flagged by the game as bad spawns, which in turn forced actual bad spawns to get selected later in the match…

Experiment slight reduction in knife lunge range, this is a trial change…

Prevention of Prestige glitching, trying to prestige through Combat Training will reset your stats but not give you Prestige…

So in addition to the fabulous patch last night that fixed Party lobby problems, matchmaking issues and noise levels, they're also releasing this today to fix the spawn system.

I've gotta say, I'm getting pretty close to exhibiting serious Treyarc Fanboyism here. They are doing a fabulous job at fixing the problems in the game at a super fast rate. Serious hats off to them if they've nailed this last issue in under 2 weeks.:)

There are suggestions that the knife lunge issue was explained by Treyarc to be actually a lag issue, so they're keeping an eye on it to see if yesterday's update actually fixed the lunge issue too. If not, they've something lined up for that it.

Also, I'm delighted to hear anyone who attempts to Prestige glitch in Combat Training, will lose everything, go back to level 1, but don't prestige!! :D:D:D
