I wouldn't think there will be power outages from this. Maybe in exposed coastal areas or if there happens to be some strong convective gusts but all the damaging winds are going to be way, way out at sea to our west.

    Anyway, here she is...

    Weather Advisory

A depression of central pressure 962hPa will track southeastwards over Ireland on Monday, 08-11-2010.
High sea/swell on the west and southwest coast; 6 to 10 metres.

Thats the latest from Met Eireann. Only a "slight" risk of some coastal flooding and no mention of any severe/damaging gusts.

Nothing yet in Bundoran or Strandhill, from the sat images, it looks like it will hit that area first.

06 FAX for tomorrow morning has possible gales off the southwest coast and the North Channel, otherwise not much.

It will be interesting to see the reports from Welsh stations, especially Aberporth, with the channeling effect of the south Irish Sea, and Föhn effects possibly enhancing readings at some stations. That could happen in Dublin too, with Casement probably registering higher speeds than Dublin Airport due to the proximity of the Dublin mountains.

If Met Eireann have downgraded this then i wouldnt hold out much hope for a huge storm or anything - like the experts on here have already said prob nothing more than heavy rain and strong enough winds - nothing we haven't seen before:rolleyes:

If you are living inland, not on a mountain and not in flood risk area there isn't anything to be concerned about I'd say.

Why name it? Is it considered ET or something?

Looking pretty impressive on the RGB airmass composite animation:

Core and jet are nearly orange they're that cold. Very large centre too....will that tighten up?

Can you imagine if this weather forum existed in the 1960's, a decade when extreme events seemed to be more frequenct and intense? Mayhem I would reckon. I think it is just our luck that we exist in what surely must be the most boring and inept weather periods in history. :(

if only we had a time machine:(
    about this "storm"
i hope for met eireann's sake the system you mentioned on Thursday doesn't turn out to be the real deal, because it seems a lot of people could be peeved that this system turn out to be a damp squib for most of the country and then the danger is they might dismiss any subsequent warning from met eireann as another over reaction. these situations are tough to handle, but it's better to be over cautious than not - afterall we don't want a repeat of what happened in 1989.

For the not so scientific community, this site http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/observations
gives a pretty good overview of the current conditions and a very visual forecast too

I have found it to be pretty accurate during previous storms
