I'm half thinking of doing two Haswell itx builds now. One with the FT03 mini and no graphics card and a second as a mainstream. :o

    Right, can't figure this out.

Seagate's new "Video" hard drives, how long is the warranty? They go out of their way to not specify it on their site.

    http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/consumer-electronics/video-3-5-hdd/

I reckon the warranties of most of their mainstream drives >1TB is two years. The video drives are mainstream - and not "high end" like the hybrid which have much longer warranties (5 years iirc). A few sites are listing them as 3 years. Only way to be sure really is to contact them or buy one and fill it into the site.

Lads when will I beable to upgrade from 2 x 670s where I can see a noticeable difference?

Why would you even want to? I'd say at least 2 gens of cards anyway. I don't understand people who upgrade every gen of processor and card. You're all nuts. :)

Assuming I can get the funds together, I'll be cramming all of my existing hardware into one. Dunno whether I'll switch to Haswell or not (as I'd have to get a new motherboard anyway). If I stick with my 3570K, I'll be de-lidding it to help as much as possible with temps.

It'll mean I have to get a completely new set of water cooling gear, which is a little annoying. Also means I'll have to run an external sound card, but I'd been thinking about that anyway for the Prodigy. And, the ASUS U7 looks quite nice.

That's what I was thinking as well. I was hoping it was three, because it would match WD's Reds. Five years? I had no idea they were that good. Might pick up a 1TB hybrid rather than a 500GB 840 then...

And the 4K Revolution begins ! (for the enthusiasts/crazies)

    http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/31/asus-unveils-31-5-inch-4k-monitor-ahead-of-computex/

    asuspq321monitor01.jpg
Taiwanese PC maker ASUS dropped this gem yesterday ahead of Computex 2013 -- the PQ321, a professional-grade 31.5-inch 4K monitor. It features a 3840 x 2160-pixel (16:9, 140 ppi) 10-bit RGB (one billion colors) IGZO panel with LED backlight, 176-degree viewing angles, 350 cd/m2 brightness and 8ms GTG response time. Beyond its Ultra HD capability, the monitor comes with built-in stereo speakers (2W) plus height, tilt and swivel adjustments. It's wall-mountable (VESA) and only 35mm thick -- according to ASUS, that makes it the thinnest 4K monitor on the market today. Connectivity includes DisplayPort, 3.5mm audio, RS-232C and, for US models, dual HDMI inputs with picture-in-picture support. There's no word on pricing yet, but the PQ321 will be available in North America at the end of June and ASUS is expected to show the monitor in Taipei next week along with a 39-inch 4K model.

Wonder how much that will cost.

I assume that's the smallest 4k you can get. That's some crazy pixel density. I'd say it looks unreal.

Good luck trying to run that res though. You would want a bare minimum of dual 680's. Even then you won't get 60fps at max settings.

I'd like to go back to one card but there's nothing really out there will give me a significant upgrade afaik

You probably won't get 30 fps at max settings with 680 SLI

I would consider picking one up if it wasn't such a power hungry thing. I really need to upgrade my GFX card this gen. I'm still running a 6870 and it's just not cutting it at 1080p right now.

    140PPI.
    A 15" MacBook Pro Retina has 220.
    CatLeaps and iMacs are 108.
    My 23" 1080p Dell is 95PPI.

I'd get one of those... except I'd be running up the DPI settings in Windows to like 300%. :P

have you got an M-ATX board? what are you planing now given that there are like 10 pc cases in your sitting room (being honest its closer to an internet cafe than a sitting room at this statge :p)

no gonna need to buy one.

any suggestions btw lads? gonna be paired with a 2500K or 3570K, gtx 690. asrock as usual? no real budget, so all suggestions welcome, but board needs to be able to accommodate (quad)SLI and a PCIeX1 sound card somewhere in between?. can it be done on mATX??

Ha im gonna try and fit another PC in here somewhere i guess :o

I love doing lans/5 player co-op type games when youre all together with a few beers and stuff. its great craic isnt it?! having another pc is guaranteeing another butt on a chair.

If you want the sound card, you'll have to use the 350D as a case. Because both those cards have to be double slot (PCI bracket connections) you can't get away with buying a single slot bracket for them when water cooled like you could with the 580, which means you'll have to use the very bottom PCIE slot for the second card, and on most boards I've looked at those are hardwired for x4 speeds. From looking at the manuals, none of the ASRock boards support anything more than x4 for the last slot.

Edit: Nope, neither of those boards can. The Gigabyte one is wired for x8, but according to the site it drops to x4 if the other is populated. It is a bit unclear though, so I wouldn't rule that one as a definite no.

I dont think quad sli and a soundcard is doable. its either sli or sound card as the gpus take up 2 slots. im going either with the ASus ROG board or the better of the asrock boards depending on their performance

ill be using a DAC on mine but i doubt your willing to drop money on a good DAC i wasnt anyway

ya lans are class its a shame we couldnt have organised proper one instead of it just randomly happening. it beats the lodge anyway:pac:

    350D is almost certainly happening.
yea i was looking over it a little yesterday. how difficult is it to do a mAtx:

    x16
    0
    x1
    x16

Asrock, i know youre listening. I WILL BUY IT!!

or similar? i thought thats what PCIe3.0 was brought out for? to fix the lane bandwidth issues??

Yeah. I'm thinking I'll go for a 7950 or a 7870xt when I get the funds together. Need to upgrade mobo and processor as well. Currently have a h61 + 2nd gen i3 so I might just upgrade to 3rd gen locked i5 or sell the lot and upgrade to Haswell. I'll just have to see what the 2nd hand market looks like after haswell release to make a good informed decision.

I've a ASUS Maximus V GENE and would recommend it and i might be flogging it next week or so :p;)

Either way i'd say its a damn good solid board to get.
