Well, I mean am I ok to place the order as-is? Will they hold the rest and ship it when stuff comes in? I don't want to wait for item A to arrive in stock, then have items B and C be out of stock before I can order.

I'm picking up a 128GB SSD for my GF's laptop, so that I can move the old 32GB SSD into the server. I'm also considering a 512GB for my desktop as well... So please, for the sake of your wallet, don't ask me that again.

they'll only ship when it all comes back into stock, together.

reason I say wait is if something doesnt come back in at all, it could be a bit of a pain getting a refund then reordering cause the replacement isnt the same price.

what the **** does your pc need another 256gb ssd for considering you only play battlefield and euro truck simulator and you have little else program wise:P

a small ssd for the server could prob be worth it

No you dont need these upgrades

the 128gb samsung is €80. WANT.

ive noticed I occasionally get some stuttering in windows and games, then my HDD spins up before it remedies itself. its odd, cause i dont have any programs or anything installed on it, and windows doesnt have any cache on it either, its literally just files. its also only 300gb full and some if it is junk, while I have 140gb left on my SSD, so i should get by on 512 total. and ts €155.
looking to buy a new HDD at the moment, where the christ have all the samsung F4 drives gone?

    rebadged to seagate drives?

64/128 is perfect for the server.

    what games are stuttering? BF3?

Yeah, those 256GB SSDs just don't seem to last in terms of space. I'm finding myself having to tidy up. I mean, actually deleting files to save space. Is this the 90s or something?

I'm constantly thinking that every computer around me needs SSDs these days.

@Tea Bag, A server is probably the least likely thing to need an SSD.

I call it a server, but really its a HTPC. and it boots too damn slow cause its using a 2tb partitioned HDD. firstworldproblems.jpg

opening chrome or a movie or something is too slow.

and yea, every time i get in a PC to repair i hate not having that SSD. everything is so slow. i have problems :o

yea. loading maps especially. even just in windows. and shutting down.. HDD for some reason needs to spin up. its annoying cause i know it'd be instant with an SSD. i have problems.

did you reinstall to the ssd some files can be hidden and BF3 can look to read of them

i think reinstalling best would be best

the BF3 load times are getting worse though

Sure you wouldn't have your films on an SSD anyway?

I have an SSD for a HTPC myself, and it's extremely handy - but I like to turn it on and off all the time. Apart from the boots, I probably wouldn't notice it much as I wouldn't be doing much apart from using it to watch films. It's only occasionally that it would get used for a small bit of browsing.

I thought you used to use Opera... don't tell me you've gone to the dark side of Chrome as well.

Preaching to the choir. Don't think I'll ever go without an SSD in any of my computers from now on.

@Mono, I actually find 128GB fine, but I suppose it depends what you store on it. I've got all of my applications, documents, Dropbox, and a couple of Minecraft installs. Then a 30GB Linux partition. All my games on another drive, and movies, TV, etc. on others. If it were a stand-alone drive, I'd need at least 256. I'm fairly neat IRL, but digitally I'm basically a hoarder.
Oh dear. What 2/3TB drives are good now then?

I just ordered two 3TB Seagates for a server. I'll let you know how those turn out. They only have a one year warranty vs. WD's two year, but hard drives are the type of thing that will fail within a month, or not for years.

Just in case people here don't know about this:

    Star Citizen
    • It's a space sim.
    • It's for PC, and PC only.
    • It's Powered by CryEngine3.
    • It's being crowd funded.
    • The more money they get the more awesome it will be.
    • It's already really, really, awesome.

Make it more awesome. Or else.

(If you have good sound, turn it right up for this. :))

    Source

I just thought this deserved another mention, it's into the last 17 hours for donations and it's just broke the €5 million mark. Just $30 will get you the game with Alpha and Beta access.

Why are people turning on Chrome so much? I use it all the time and it never crashes, its really quick and everything is synced between work, desktop and laptop! Am I missing something?

Sure we do, you're the cable guy. As in you had that guide on cabling. Hard drives up, SSDs down. Intel can't overclock except K CPUs, AMD's latest are competitive again after their recent releases, following their dud series. A couple of new graphics cards out.

Ah, it's not really chrome itself; it's just that google are evil.

I suppose I'm just so heavily in the Google eco system. We have Google apps where I'm interning and I use Android so It just make sense to use Google Chrome. The real reason Google are evil is because they have screwed up the Nexus 4 launch and have made them scarce and tough to buy in Ireland :(

Ah, but with shipping... thinking of sticking 8 GB RAM and one of those into my laptop, but getting a Kindle as well so might as well just bundle them all in from Amazon.

Hey lads, my class 10 SDHC and MicroSDHC cards are benching at 7.3-7.7 Write. Could this be the reader or are they just knock off cards? Using DiskMark.

    Update: Its the fcking reader.

Ah. Nice to see I'm still known :o I've actually been keeping up to date on all things tech, just haven't had a chance to be posting here with work/life/etc.

Speaking of new graphics cards, I've 2 680 Lightnings arriving soon :D

    What's your monitor setup like?

God dammit. Amazon had a flash sale on 256GB Cruical M4 going for £99. I'm going to be keeping an eye on those flash sales from now on, make sure I don't miss anything.

They were gone literally as soon as the sale started.

    Basically, yes :p

I've gotten a job since I was last here so I now only feel slightly guilty about my PC upgrades. Monitor at the moment is a single Dell 2311H, but I'll be stepping it up to either 3x2311 or a 2711H in the next while (just waiting on a 2711 refresh)

The U2713 is out. By all accounts a worthy successor to the 2711, though it doesn't initially appear so on paper.

Ah, didnt know it was actually out, just thought it was out soon. Gimme a second while I go hide my bank card from myself. Just to keep this off topic thread going in the right direction, anyone here play Borderlands 2 ?

HWVS is stocking the orange and red bitfenix prodigy's.

I was interested in a white, but now I'm not so sure. would orange look dated quickly?

    edit: welcome back Deano!

just to note: make sure you like 3 monitor setup for gaming.

i did go for surround setup and after less then few hours i gone back to normal 1080p gaming. extra monitors still not wasted as i love to play 2xeve online accounts + wow/diablo/borderlands 2 etc :p

having one 1440p+side monitor might be a better option m8.

Probably that and it wont match anything around it.

it also doesnt look like a good orange colour imo

Those are some fugly coloured cases.

tbh I'd go for white unless I had a colour scheme already going in the room. Sadly agent orange and asphyxia blue are not colours I would design a room around

hmm they look a lot less appealing when they're not in a glamour shot.

I guess I'll stick with white.
