Dont know if its supposed to be song lyrics but one of my favourite quotes of all time is from the movie Under the Tuscan Sun..

''Listen, when I was a little girl I used to spend hours looking for ladybugs. Finally, I'd just give up and fall asleep in the grass. When I woke up, they were crawling all over me.''

Makes even more sense to me lately as all i seem to meet is frogs and wondering where the beejaysus is my Prince Charming :)

Please please please let me get what I want

    Good times for a change
    See, the luck I've had
    Can make a good man
    Turn bad

    So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
    This time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
    See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Short but sweet. It makes best sense when listened to if you have the time and you don't know the song. Not exactly high art but absolutely everyone feels this way at times. To the uninitiated, you may recognise the instrumental version by The Dream Academy that featured in the art gallery scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

    Airborne Toxic Event

    And it starts...
    sometime around midnight
    or at least that's when
    you lose yourself
    for a minute or two

    As you stand...
    under the barlights
and the band plays some song
about forgetting yourself for a while
and the piano's this melancholy soundcheck
    to her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
    you haven't seen her
    for a while

    But you know...
    that she's watching
    She's laughing, she's turning
she's holding her tonic like a crux
    The room suddenly spinning
she walks up and asks how you are
so you can smell her perfume
you can see her lying naked in your arms

    And so there's a change...
    in your emotions
and all of these memories come rushing
like feral waves to your mind
of the curl of your bodies
    like two perfect circles entwined
and you feel hopeless, and homelss
    and lost in the haze
    of the wine

    And she leaves...
    with someone you don't know
but she makes sure you saw her
she looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
    your blood boiling
    your stomach in ropes
and when your friends say what is it
you look like you've seen a ghost

    And you walk...
    under the streetlights
and you're too drunk to notice
that everyone is staring at you
and you so care what you look like
    the world is falling
    around you

You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her

and you know that she'll break you
    in two

    Garth Brooks Unanswered prayers

    Garth Brooks, Unanswered Prayers Lyrics
Looking for Garth Brooks tabs and chords? Browse alphabet (above).

Just the other night a hometown football game
My wife nd I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be
She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all
And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered
Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
Really sums up a relationship i was in a few years ago, it would never have worked but at the time i couldnt see it

    Calico Skies - Paul McCartney

It was written that I would love you
From the moment I opened my eyes
And the morning when I first saw you
Gave me life under calico skies

I will hold you for as long as you like
I'll hold you for the rest of my life

Always looking for ways to love you
Never failing to fight at your side
While the angels of love protect us
From the innermost secrets we hide

I'll hold you for as long as you like
I'll hold you for the rest of my life

Long live all us crazy soldiers
Who were born under calico skies
May we never be called to handle
All the weapons of war we despise

I'll hold you for as long as you like
I'll hold you for the rest of my life
I'll hold you for as long as you like
I'll love you for the rest of my...
For the rest of my life

    love that bit

Bernie Taupin actually wrote those lyrics and for the majority of Elton's songs. Great lyricist!

i love this quote from The Pretender:
I'm the voice inside your head
    You refuse to hear
I'm the face that you have to face
    Mirrored in your stare
    I'm what's left, I'm what's right
    I'm the enemy
I'm the hand that will take you down
    Bring you to your knees

    So who are you?
    Yeah, who are you?
but this song has the most meaning, it reminds me of my fiance and it will be played while im walking down the aisle at our wedding.
    "Til Kingdom Come"

Steal my heart and hold my tongue.
I feel my time, my time has come.
Let me in, unlock the door.
I've never felt this way before.

The wheels just keep on turning,
    The drummer begins to drum,
    I don't know which way I'm going,
    I don't know which way I've come.

Hold my head inside your hands,
    I need someone who understands.
I need someone, someone who hears,
For you, I've waited all these years.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my day, my day is done.
And say you'll come, and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

In your tears and in your blood,
In your fire and in your flood,
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing,
    "I wouldn't change a single thing."

The wheels just keep on turning,
    The drummers begin to drum,
    I don't know which way I'm going,
    I don't know what I've become.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come,
Until my days, my days are done.
Say you'll come and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

This song brings back bad memories.

The Fray, How to save a life.

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
    Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
    He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
    How to save a life
    How to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
    How to save a life

    Just heard this:

One of My favorite poets: Peter McWilliams, from his book "How To Survive The Loss of a Love"

My life has fallen down around me before --lots of times,
for lots of reasons-- usually other people.

And most of the time, I was fortunate enough
to have a large lump of that life hit me on the
head and render me numb to the pain & desolation that followed.
And I survived. And I live to love again.

But this, this slow erosion from below --or within--
it's me falling down around my life
because you're still in that life --but not really.
And you're out of that life --but not quite.

I do all right alone, and better together,
but I do very poorly when semi-together.

    In solitude, I do much,
    in love, I do more
but in doubt, I only transfer pain to paper
in gigantic Passion Plays, complete with miracles and martyrs
    and crucifixions and resurrections.

Come to stay or stay away.

This series of passion poems is becoming a heavy cross to bare.

Green Days "Time of Your Life". (Good Riddance)

Every time I hear it it reminds me of a lost loved one who really did have the time of his life, lived fast and died far too young.

I can hear the soft breathing
Of the girl that I love,
As she lies here beside me
    Asleep with the night,
And her hair, in a fine mist
    Floats on my pillow,
    Reflecting the glow
    Of the winter moonlight.

She is soft, she is warm,
    But my heart remains heavy,
And I watch as her breasts
    Gently rise, gently fall,
For I know with the first light of dawn
    Ill be leaving,
    And tonight will be
All I have left to recall.

    Oh, what have I done,
    Why have I done it,
    Ive committed a crime,
    Ive broken the law.
    For twenty-five dollars
    And pieces of silver,
    I held up and robbed
    A hard liquor store.

    My life seems unreal,
    My crime an illusion,
    A scene badly written
    In which I must play.
Yet I know as I gaze
At my young love beside me,
The morning is just a few hours away.

I must conquer my loneliness alone.

I must be happy with myself
or I have nothing to offer.

Two halves have little choice but to join,
and yes, they do make a whole.

But two wholes, when they coincide. . .
That is beauty, that is love.

    -Peter McWilliams

    Slow down, Lie down,
Remember it's just you and me.
    Don't sell out, bow out,
Remember how this used to be.

    I just want you closer,
    Is that alright?
    Baby let's get closer tonight

    Grant my last request,
And just let me hold you.
    Don't shrug your shoulders,
    Lay down beside me.
Sure I can accept that we're going nowhere,
But one last time let's go there,
    Lay down beside me

Oh, I've found, that I'm bound
To wander down that one way road.
And I realise all about your lies
But I'm no wiser than the fool I was before.

    I just want you closer,
    Is that alright?
    Baby let's get closer tonight...

    Where did we come from,
    Why all we here?
Where do we go when we die?
    What lies beyond
    And what lay before?
    Is anything certain in life?

They say, "Life is too short,"
    "The here and the now"
And "You're only given one shot"
    But could there be more,
    Have I lived before,
Or could this be all that we've got?

    If I die tomorrow
    I'd be all right
    Because I believe
    That after we're gone
    The spirit carries on

I used to be frightened of dying
I used to think death was the end
    But that was before
    I'm not scared anymore
I know that my soul will transcend

I may never find all the answers
    I may never understand why
    I may never prove
What I know to be true
But I know that I still have to try

    If I die tomorrow
    I'd be all right
    Because I believe
    That after we're gone
    The spirit carries on

    Victoria:
    "Move on, be brave
    Don't weep at my grave
Because I am no longer here
    But please never let
    Your memory of me disappear"

    Nicholas:
Safe in the light that surrounds me
Free of the fear and the pain
    My questioning mind
    Has helped me to find
The meaning in my life again
    Victoria's real
    I finally feel
At peace with the girl in my dreams
    And now that I'm here
    It's perfectly clear
I found out what all of this means

    If I die tomorrow
    I'd be all right
    Because I believe
    That after we're gone
    The spirit carries on

    Paper Airplane Lyrics:
I've put it all behind me, nothing left to do or doubt, some may say
But every silver lining always seems to have a cloud that comes my way
Anticipated pleasure or unexpected pain. No choice I fear
And love is hard to measure, hidden in the rain

That's why you'll find me here all alone and still wondering why
Waiting inside for the cold to get colder
And here where its clear that I've wasted my time
Hoping to fly, cause its almost over now

People come together, people go their own way. Love conquers few
And I'll do whatever, I'll say what I need to say, just not for you

How many days should I smile with a frown,
'Cause you're not around with the sun on your shoulders
And how many nights must I wake up alone
And know in my soul that its almost over now

Our love is like a paper airplane flying in the folded wind, riding high, dipping low
But innocence is fair game, I'm hoping I can hold it in. Our love will die, I know

    Breakaway Lyrics:
Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
    Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

    Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
    Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

    [Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
    And I'll make a wish
    Take a chance
    Make a change
    And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
    I'll take a risk
    Take a chance
    Make a change
    And breakaway

    Wanna feel the warm breeze
    Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
    Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
    And breakaway

    [Chorus]

    Buildings with a hundred floors
    Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
    Fly away, breakaway

    I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
    I gotta take a risk
    Take a chance
    Make a change
    And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
    I gotta take a risk
    Take a chance
    Make a change
    And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway
