I was just looking at the entry list for next week's KLM Open and I see that Padraig is listed as a tournament invitation. This is not mentioned on his website, but I presume he will be playing and that he needed an invite because he missed the normal close of entries date.

Strange one alright, Kaymer and Donaldson are down as sponsors invites also.

Nice to see Tom Watson there also.

Busy period for Padraig coming in Europe.

He's also on the entry list for the following two tournaments and there's an article on the European Tour website about how much he's looking forward to the Dunhill Links. That would make it four weeks in a row, which is relatively unusual for Padraig and seems a bit strange if he's nursing an injury.

Yes it looks like he's making the push to hit the 13 events.

Those four would bring him to 11. The British Masters is another big money tournament the week after the Dunhill Links, but that would mean playing five weeks in a row. There are only two further tournaments before the final series starts.

I've tried looking up the eligibility rules for these tournaments, but I can't find anything concrete apart from the HSBC, where he would have qualified under last year's rules, but won't qualify this year unless he can zoom up the world rankings before the cut off date. The final event is restricted to the top 60 in the Race to Dubai. Can anyone clarify the eligibility conditions for the other two tournaments.

Last year it was this for Turkey

    (a) Players ranked within the top 60 of the Official World Golf Rankings as of Monday 20th October 2014.

    (b) 4 tournament invitations

    (c) 3 Turkish Players as invited by the Turkish Golf Federation.

    (d) The balance of the field will be selected in order from the 2014 Race to Dubai following the conclusion of the WGC-HSBC Champions, (10th November 2014). - Cut off was 82nd position.

For BMW in China it was

    (a) Players ranked within the top 60 of the Official World Golf Rankings as of Monday 6th October 2014.

    (b) 14 Chinese Players as invited by the Chinese Golf Association.

    (c) 4 tournament invitations

    (d) The balance of the field will be selected in order from the 2014 Race to Dubai following the conclusion of the WGC-HSBC Champions, 26th October 2014). - Cut off was 70th position.

So needs a good September to get anywhere the final series at all.
A sponsors invite could be possible but If I recall from last year any winnings wouldn't count towards the race to Dubai.

Shame The HSBC changed the criteria this year.

Shame The HSBC changed the criteria this year.

Thanks for that. I guess the criteria will probably be similar this year for Turkey and the BMW.

The change in the HSBC eligibility rules makes a bit of a joke of the name of the tournament - WGC-HSBC Champions. The fact that there were different eligibility conditions for the different WGC events spiced it up a bit. Now we're moving towards almost total homogeniety, with the bulk of the entrants for each event being based on world rankings.

Doesn't look as if Padraig is playing this week after all. Still nothing on his website about it and this article is on the European Tour website with no mention of Padraig http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2015/tournamentid=2015070/news/newsid=270038.html#0WvJIK3qT7a4DhmB.97

Still showing on the list of invitations though.

Whoever wrote that article should be shot. Three time major winner not even mentioned in passing.

Birdied two of his first three holes today to get to one under and just inside the current cut line (although I expect this will go to 3 under or thereabouts by end of play).

Has moved to -2 after 9 along with the cut moving to -2.

Now at -3 after 13. Hasn't been any coverage of his group so far on Sky, even though they were listed as one of the featured groups at the start of this morning's program.

Four deuces always help smile.png needs a par on the last for a 65.

4 under with 1 to play, should be around for the weekend now..

Parred the last to finish with a 65 and safely through to the weekend. Hopefully he can push on from here.

Very disappointing coverage from Sky (but not at all surprising, given their past history of not showing Irish golfers unless they absolutely have to). They only showed one shot - his approach to the 9th, which finished only a few feet from the hole. They didn't show his putt (which unfortunately he missed).

He really fought back yesterday to make his round more respectable looking, and has pushed on very well today.

Great to see him move up off the cut line when entering the last 9 holes, so often in the last few years he'd have been swallowed up and finished poorly.

Decent 67 today, moves him up the leaderboard.

Disappointing final round of 71 today to finish outside the top 50. Four birdies, but 3 bogeys and a double.

No idea what caused the problem today, but going on recent experience, seems likely to be putting problems.

Hopefully he'll get it sorted out over the next few weeks. Be nice to see him feature in the Final Series.

Another disappointing showing, nearer last than first. :(

127 putts for the tournament I think I saw reported somewhere.

Looks like he's playing at least 4 weeks on the spin up to and including the dunhill links.

Vintage Harrington scrambling there to post -2 on day 1 in Italy. Had been +2 after 12.

Was never worse than +1 but good recovery.

Just teeing off now on the 10th in round 2.

78 players -2 or better after round 1, -4 cut possible??

Padraig has just eagled the 16th (his 7th) for the second day in a row to get to 3 under for the round and 5 under overall.

Nice symmetry there on the scorecard :)
