If you like that sort of game then yes! It's the best game in it's genre. It's basically like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden but way better. It's a bit like God of War but GoW is more of a dumb button masher with great spectacle whereas Bayonetta is more about mastering its excellent combat system.
love that kinda game will pick this up so just gotta find it cheap now lol.. thanks retro

is bayonetta really that good? didnt pick it up dont know why really??? so its defo good?

It's pretty much the best action game available at the moment IMO! It's OTT, the humour is weird and everything pretty silly. But it's so much fun, the combat system is ridiculously deep, the set pieces extraordinary. It lets you play the parts other games show you in cutscenes. As said above, if you're a fan of DMC and all it is a must buy.

If you liked God of War, then this is that with all the scale and a vastly more rewarding combat system. That series gets all the kudos, but Bayonetta shows it up in almost all regards!

Tried the Vanquish PS3 demo, and I have to say I was impressed. I had very little interest in this game before the demo, and its now a must buy for me.

I never said the story or setting will be anything similar to masseffect, but the battle scenes do look similar with the 3rd person over the shoulder cover system + futuristc weapons etc.

Played the Demo today. Have been looking forward to this one for a while. It's very good and enjoyable but I don't think it'll be a release day buy for me. I reckon it'll be down to €20 after a few weeks, can't see it setting the world on fire in a release period with the new CoD, MoH and Halo Reach coming out within a few weeks of each other.

Jusy played the demo, bloody amazing.

A bit too much going with the HUD is about the only fault I could pick and that's being very, very picky. Pretty stunned at how good it is, really came out of nowhere.

Finally got around to playing it there, it's ****ing great. Bayonetta meets Gundamn meets Kratos on crack meets more awesome. Day one purchase for me.

Also Overheal, if you want to know why it's not coming to PC, check out some of the comments on the Steam forum...

Oh so it won't be any good.
looks like your typical japanese game
It's way too Japanesey for me. I really hate that kind of design with the scrolling text to describe stuff.
At least they're not hating for no reason...

Excellent! If only the wonderful Japanese PSN was the default for us!

Just played the new demo, tis great! Pure combat, and hard as hell to boot. Get a chance to try out new weapons. Basically fighting increasingly tricky waves as fast as you can. Wave 4 kicked my ass.

    I take it it's in japenese? :P

I'd need to download to old one again just to familiarize myself with the controls in english :P

So is it anyway attached to the main game or is it more like a side-option, challenge rooms to test you against various types of enemies?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭bugs

The challenge demo is hard as nails, which is a good thing. Completed it with a pretty woeful overall time of around 15 minutes.

Actually, bar the pre title disclaimers, everything (controls menu and all - thank **** I was able to map aim and shoot controls to the back triggers!) is in English, which oddly seems to be a trend in most Japanese action games! I have a few other PS1 schmups and the likes off Japan PSN, and almost all of them are English :pac: Of course the problem is finding them in the first place! If you're downloading this, I think you just need to go the second menu option in the store and find the Vanquish picture.

Yeah I'm guessing that's what it is. This is just straight menu > game, but I'd say this is the 'score attack' mode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭bugs

If your ps3 is set for english language, the demo is in english, if its set to japanese, the demo is in japanese.

Bayonetta was the same, the final game was identical irregardless of region.

Game is out today week, game play demo is up on xbox live. The Demo is awesome, it's like when you see crazy battle cut-scenes where there's a thousand things going on at once, it feels like you actually get to play in one of those cut-scenes, of course not as intense but the game is just mad and insanely fast (think it's supposedly the fastest FPS game ever made). Was so much fun to play the demo, the only problem and to be fair it's a bit of a major one is that there is no online play. Which seems like a right shame and a bit of a missed opportunity. Well worth checking out the demo for any people into their shooters :D

I played the demo for this one on Live a few weeks back, and thought it was pretty enjoyable. Not really my kinda game, as it reminds me too much of an over-caffinated Gears Of War, but good fun none the less. I might pick it up for a playthrough when it becomes cheaper.

In the hype about other, less important games such as Medal of Honour and Fallout (pfft :pac:) we can't let the impending Friday launch of Vanquish go without fanfare :)

Only a handful of early reviews, and from untrustworthy sites such as IGN (pfft :pac:), but early word seems positive. Hopefully the reviews will begin flooding in tomorrow when it launches in the States!

Anyway, I eagerly anticipate Shinji Mikami reclaiming the shooter. I fear the campaign will be uber short (4-6 hours according to one review ) but the joy shall be in perfecting this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Well IGN said that the learning curve was too steep for them (surprise surprise). So i'm expecting that the reputable gaming sites will give it a decent 9+.

Surprise surprise. The same idiots that gave deadly premonition and godhand 3/10.

I've heard word from some one playing it that it's far and away their game of the year. Time to get excited folks.

A 4/5 Hour Campaign is lousy.I don't care if they've Challenge Rooms or replayabity its not good enough. Even Cod offers more than that & its got Multiplayer (something I don't use due to having no Live/Psn).I may pick this up cut price only after reading better reviews than ign.

the 4/5 hours review was because they are on easy mode lol plat studio released an official response saying they are awed by how fast they beat the game(we all know the reviewers sux in action games). ign said it took them 7hours right? more accurate as i expect.

also, folks, this game has no repetitive stuffs in it at all, according to some people who finished it already....(and hence people think it is short, they want more!) i am sure some dlc will be coming in future.

Platinum games generally don't offer DLC on their games, perhaps mikami will change this but its not looking likely from the official forums.
From what i've read, 6.5 hours is about average if you're capable enough at the game. Even though i'd hope the game is fantastic, 6-7 hours on a first play through is pretty poor value.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭richymcdermott

is there challenge rooms for this game or just the single play, fighting a wave of enemies to beat your friends high score be pretty cool when the stroy mode is beat

There is indeed, and going by the Japanese challenge room demo, they're going to be bastard hard.

The length is definitely a shame though, considering a first play through of Bayonetta was 10 hours plus.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭richymcdermott

i did see somewhere the developers said it was a nightmare to make this game , maybe for whatever reason they made this game only 5-6 hours long, if the singleplayer throughout is engaging people are gonna play it over and over again. only thing i wish they did was make it have online would seem like the perfect game for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭bugs

Unfortunately theres only 6 challenge rooms.
Overall the game is lacking in content, compared to bayonetta which was loaded with it. Seems a shame as competent reviews and people online are raving about the gameplay.

I'm hoping theres a stack of DLC, but i'm not holding my breath.

Are there any known differences between the platforms performance wise etc? I ordered it for PS3 but was playing the 360 demo tonight.

I haven't heard yet, but Platinum promised (we swear!) a while back that there should be no discernable differences, at least not at Bayonetta levels.

However, 360 is my console of choice for this for one simple reason: good triggers. Playing shooters on PS3 just feels wrong somehow. The 360 pad, on the other hand, is designed for this sort of game.

I wasn't impressed overall with the demo, but I really like the slide mechanic. It's definitely a purchase when the price goes down.

Screen tearing on the 360 version, or so its claimed. Doubt you'd notice much difference at all.

So I was walking to work after playing Vanquish this afternoon, and the adrenaline was still pumping. I passed a car with booming techno music and I suddenly felt the urge to rocket boost along the ground, melee kick the car, and do a 1080 somersault ten feet into the air.

    Platinum, you ****ing rock.

    Highlight so far was
shooting down the driver of a troop transport. The transport then just drove into a nearby wall and exploded :D.

I'm only around an hour in, but Shinji Mikami has reclaimed the shooter. Everything else will just feel a little slow in comparison.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

played it for a few hours on freeplay in my local gamecentre...got about 3-4 levels in. Really was loving it but it really was a game I need to put down and take in small chunks cause it drains the senses to an extent that I felt exhausted to continue.

but 2 hours later i'm itching to go back to play for a few more levels. Sadly I opted not to pick it up as I paid deposit on fable 3 instead and I'm not sure if I can afford both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

I really, really want this but just can't afford it! :(

Hope it drops in price like Bayonetta did, then maybe I can get myself a copy!
