Just a warning to those with kids (& a headsup to those who want to) who might be accessing that filmon app, there's hardcore porn available with no safety check apart from an "I am 18" button

    Clever move.

I have a 5 year old who loves the iPad and the interaction books (she is whopping my a$$ on angry birds).

I like the film on site but would never let them itch the kids channels for fear they would exit and get the adult channel in error.

Dying to see 4.2 on ios. Been waiting sine it's announcement in sept.

I'm dying to see 4.2 on it too... there are videos online of it.

Filmon is very good, cant believe its legal but still.... also, it did give me a warning for the adult content and boy, thats some hard core stuff so... parents beware.

I installed 4.2 on Saturday and filmon didn't work, so I went back to 3.2.
Also, the hardware button used to lock the screen orientation changed to volume on/off.
It also forgot some wifi codes I had previously inputted.

I'm waiting for the official update. :)

Question for all u ipadders, me and the missus just bought one yesterday. As a former (but not any more) early adopter of technology i've had my fair share of problems with having to live with dodgy OS updates from apple, i'm just wondering whether to leave the ipad as it is on 3.2.2 (seems nice and stable) or go for 4.2 (could be a disaster all over again for little or no benefit). At the moment, I'm leaning towards if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

The only differences i can see so far between OS 3 and 4 are of no consequence to me TBH. The only thing that i really really wish the iPad had is a basic level of multi user support for a couple of people sharing it. Stuff like proper multi user mailboxes, password challenge on opening your mail, better support for multi user logins on apps like facebook, yahoo messenger, etc.

Apple make fantastic stuff, but their disregard for the end user experience type stuff that gives a product a that final "polished & complete" feel constantly baffles me. Every time they make a product that's nearly fantastic, but just not quite. Does anyone know of any good apps or workarounds for the common issues around multi user iPads, or is there anything coming down the line in the next OS that will make things any easier in that department?

So the new update is out. I've downloaded it but not synced yet. Anyone tried it?

They've included AirPlay but not AirPrint. Not too fussed as I haven't been streaming much from my iMac and Zumocast does the job anyway.

@Dev, or anyone else who has Settlers of Catan, can you tell me if it supports multi-player? The features say it supports a hotseat mode which I thought might mean you pass it around but other products describe this as pass and play.

@Cyrus, I have Real Racing HD, it's not bad but your arms do tend to get tired playing it before you hit the hour mark ass you have to hold the iPad like a steering wheel.

Really? I've always thought this was exactly what Apple really excel at. They are sometimes slow to implement certain features, but when they arrive they are usually worth the wait. Polished and complete certainly isn't something I would use to describe their competition.

AirPrint is there, it just doesn't work with shared printers yet. There are work arounds available though.

EarthHorse, just checked it there and and its set up so that up to 4 players can play on the same iPad.

One word of caution, its a perfect conversion of the game but its built for the iPhone so the graphics look a bit crap when zoomed up. The rest of the game (including the AI) is very good though.

Aye, I was corrected on this on another thread already. :o

Thanks. Might leave it for the moment given what else you say but at least it's a contender (I have the real version already so it's no biggie).

If you are a board games fan, I recently found out that just about every Reiner Knizia game has been converted to iPad, from Modern Art to Samurai.

I'm trying to pace myself and not just open by CC account and splurge :)

Aye, I am, but I'd much rather play against people than AI. I understand spielbyweb and other online offerings have had a lot of games pulled since the publishers discovered mobile apps a more profitable venture.

I should really start up my boardgame night again though.

'Tis tempting alright. They're all so cheap! Whaddaya mean I bought 300 of them?!?

Really? I've always thought this was exactly what Apple really excel at. They are sometimes slow to implement certain features, but when they arrive they are usually worth the wait.

I think that's the point. I'm not flaming apple or anything, i like their stuff a lot, my household (for which i'm the IT manager) have bought over a grand's worth of it in the last year alone, but they seem to put stuff out with very obvious basic features missing and then only implement them with firmware updates after people have been screaming for them for ages. Even then it's hit and miss. Why isn't it in from day 1?? Their attitude seems to be "so what, people will still buy our stuff in droves, so who cares, we'll get round to it".

Take the iphone for example. It's an amazing groundbreaking bit of kit, but it lacks basic end user customisation stuff like easy setting of MP3 ringtones etc. Bog standard nokias have been doing that for years. Another example, is their "Multitasking". Why can't i have an option to just switch it off if i don't like it, or select which apps can multitask and which can't and behave in the old way instead? Multitasking is not the holy grail for every iphone user, and for some apps it's just plain annoying.

It's the same as the ipad multi user thing. It's the perfect sleek, beautiful coffee table tablet, and it's marketed at cool, up to the minute modern people and families, yet as soon as more than one person picks it up it becomes a chore to use parts of it because it hasn't been designed for multiple users. How was that not picked up in product testing? It's not the same as an iphone, which is a very personal purchase. It's design screams "share me", but it falls way short of that in it's functionality.

It's like apple put every bit of their resources into developing the coolest gear possible from a tech point of view, but then they just release it to the public immediately, instead of actually giving it to some prototype test customers to play with for a while, see what they think it's missing, and then use that feedback to update the product before general release. I don't get it.

Sometimes less is more. Other manufacturers release their devices with every possible feature thrown in. But how well do all these features work? Apple focus on developing a smaller but better group of features that work well. This is why people love their devices. Many of those other features that people want will come in time. Others, such as multiple users, probably won't.

Apple don't really care what people think they want. Other device makers rely on focus groups, but Apple have a more creative approach. Jobs once quoted Henry Ford who said that if he had asked people what they wanted they would have said faster horses. Was there really any demand for a tablet this time last year? Everyone thought the ipad would be a flop. But Apple made a good device and it has sold well.

I don't necessarily agree with it, it is very frustrating to be left waiting on a fairly basic feature, but Job's less-is-more philosophy has been the key to Apple's success in recent years. When the company nearly went bankrupt in the 90s it was because it was trying to do too many things at once and wasn't doing any of them well.

I don't want a preferences pane with 1,000 trivial settings. Less is more. Apple saves users from themselves.

I guess that's why i don't fit into apple's key demographic. I want settings for everything i can get my hands on, and i don't need apple to save me from myself.

Quite right, my apologies on the derailment.

So can anyone recommend any APPS that will help me get around common multi user issues on iPad like different people logging in to different mail accounts securely, using multiple secure logins for different social media sites, instant messenging programs, etc?

"Friendly for Facebook" supports multiple users - much better than trying to use Facebook through the site or the official iPhone app:

I have recently started using Buzz Player HD, http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/buzz-player-hd/id389744550?mt=8 . We keep all of our video and a lot of our music on a NAS with a built in media server, so it's the handiest thing - you can stream to it, or download the file (a 350mb program takes about 7 minutes on our current wireless G network) and take it out and about with you. Works really well, but pausing causes the sound to go out of sync, solved by exiting the file and reopening it again (the player remembers the point you closed at). It is my new favourite app :)

Did you find Buzz Player better than AirVideo/Zumocast/VLC & co? Have just moved my movies onto a NAS, so removing the iMac entirely from the equation sounds good.

I've never used zumocast.. Airvideo was a pain with the leaving the server running, although the running from outside the house was great. I don't like vlc on the iPad, I think it sounds and looks worse than, say, cinexplayer. Airplayer is good but less functional. I don't think playback quality with buzz is quite as good as cinexplayer, but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make for sheer handiness. It's still better than vlc ;)

    Rage HD is out.

It's a great looking rail FPS. Only €1.59.

New App I discovered today and it's free!

Basically when you want to send a postcard you take a photo, flip the photo, write your message and recipients address then email to site. They guarantee to print and post for you. Cost outside US is 2 credits 1 credit = $1.99 less the more you buy. However, when you download this free app you get 1 credit, then when you set up your account in "redeem code" section type appshop3 and you will get another 3 credits.

Really looking forward to trying it out only problem is that it doesn't seem to be allowing me to purchase any credit for some reason but it could just be a hiccup.

I actually happened across that app the other night and it's REALLY good. The multiple login thing is great.

If there was something similar for accessing yahoo mail on separate accounts I'd be sorted. Those are the main ones I really need, everything else i can deal with.

I'd like to use something like Friendly for Facebook but anytime you try to install any Facebook app it gives you that notification that it's gonna start posting crap in your timeline and access your details. Which I don't want.
    Pain in the hole.
