There's also the issue of TG4 at Moville on E50, where Limavady plans to use that frequency to broadcast the BBC A Multiplex two weeks prior to ASO in the Republic. Surely Ofcom & Comreg hasn't overlooked that bit? I'll need to double check but I wonder if there are other temporary frequency clashes along the border which could prove chaotic for NI viewers retuning after both stages of DSO, giving morning headaches but a "solution" by afternoon?

What's interesting up there is that on the northern first stage on 10/10/12 Limavady will be shutting down BBC1 analogue and the current Mux1 on E67 with the new BBCA multiplex powering up on E50 - the same channel that Moville currently uses for TG4, which means potentially for two weeks that's gonna be a world of hurt! I suspect TG4 may be closed down early at Moville to prevent this. ARQ2 from Limavady will also be on E49, ruling this out at Moville also.

SAORVIEW coverage is currently available in the Moville, Malin, Cross, Glengad and Mossy Glen areas. In order to fully power the SAORVIEW service in these areas, the Analogue service has to be switched off in two steps:
Step 1: TG4 Analogue services will be switched off on 9th October
Step 2: All other Analogue channels will be switched off on 24th October

    Timoleague
SAORVIEW will go live from the Timoleague transposer some time between 24th September and 1st October. In order to facilitate the switch on of SAORVIEW, the RTÉ One Analogue service will cease operating on the same day as SAORVIEW goes live. The other analogue channels will remain on air until 24th October.

    Thanks Cush.

Interesting that they are shutting off RTE 1 in one case.
I would have expected them might have shunted RTE 1 analogue over to the RTE 2 analogue frequency rather than take away the main national station.

That would've been my guess too.

It's all getting a little bit messy and still we have this situation in some areas where 10am is the analogue switch off, and we're not sure how/when the final digital signal will happen.

There needs to be a co-ordinated, well publicised re-tune event or people are going to end up confused! We now have a series of switchoff events involving RTE1/2 with very little notice. Admittedly they are at low power sites but it doesn't bode well.

    #messy !

For most Saorview viewers the 10.00am ASO on Oct 24th will pass unnoticed, there will be no change to DTT channels or erp that day. Sometime after that date there will be the retunes at Mt Leinster/Clermont Carn, they may give a day or two notice before it happens - maybe :D

When the analogue transmitter at Cross, Quigley’s Point, Co. Donegal closes there are around 30 houses in the valley with nothing. No Malin, Moville or Limavady and Inishowen is outside the Saorsat footprint. All that’s available is Sky or Freesat. Any chance of an upgrade here?

Why would you think Inishowen itself is out of the range of Saorsat? Sure people are picking it up in Wales and also in Larne in NI. At least, with a dish that's slightly bigger than the typical ones.

    That's not true.

See page 14 of the Saorsat FAQ
    http://www.rtenl.ie/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/RT%C3%89NL-SAORSAT-FAQs-June-2012-Rev-2.0.pdf

    Inishowen needs a 100cm dish.
It's outside the footprint of the area than can use a 80cm dish, but it can get it with a larger dish.

Does RTE own that transmitter or do the locals own it???

Moville Saorview is on limited power at present. They will be on 2kw from after ASO. Perhaps that may help.

Also live on coverage checker, but still red patches.

Will RTENL update coverage to expand the coverage area from the relays? For example, parts of the town may have previously been recpommened Mullaghanish, but now receive stronger signal from the relay.

Any chance there's two crews working, one crew did Glenties this morning and Clonmany this evening, and the other did Dingle this morning and Mount Gabriel this evening? Perhaps Greenore will come on in the morning and some of the west Cork sites.

Mount Gabriel is now really live :). I got this message from somebody who tuned in his Saorview receiver right now.

Dingle was switched on Tuesday evening.

They have different engineering crews working in Donegal and Kerry.

Dingle is covered by the South-West team working out of Mullaghanish.

Any of the remaining 6 Munster sites on-air but not updated on the Saorview coverage checker?

analogue mount gabriel was off air for a few hours on two days this week before dtt started, dont know what the eirp is,i wonder is at the same level as analogue was at 1kw.i was told that the drimoleague transposer is ready to go and will be active on monday, analogue rte 2 is being left on for the match on sunday and after that the same freguency as analogue rte 2 ch42 will carry the dtt mux, this info was not from an official source .

That seems logical, not being able to watch the Hurling Final on Sunday in parts of Clare and Cork would be unforgivable. 5 of the remaing 6 transmitters are switching off analogue RTÉ2 and replacing it with the DTT mux (the sixth, Timoleague is switching off RTÉ1). Any household not already having a Saorview receiver should be able to pick one up in a local retailer during the week, plug and play and no messing around with aerials.

•Leap Cork 44H (currently used for analogue RTÉ2)
•Rosscarbery Cork 57H (currently used for analogue RTÉ2)
•Drimoleague Cork 42V (currently used for analogue RTÉ2)
•Timoleague Cork 29V (currently used for analogue RTÉ1)
•Ballina/Killaloe Clare 58V (currently used for analogue RTÉ2)
•Ennistymon Clare 58H (currently used for analogue RTÉ2)

You are nearly always correct Cush but west Cork and west Clare are football country so it would have been unforgiveable for a Clare - Cork final 2 weeks back.

    Only unfortunate this weekend. :)
