Doesn't look like they miss her.Got him new finch seed mix which he seem mad about. He's taking over the nest again ,Coco was in charge ,must of been an older Bird thing ,she never took any notice of him and kept flying at him puffed up lol .Got them a new cage a few days ago , so i can just open the top and they can fly around and perch on it so they seem pretty happy.

Sorry to say ,but Coco died today at 1 o clock. We got her a heat lamp ,she enjoyed herself for her last week but she was almost 8 years old .
    Here's BoB and Cede http://j-tv.me/uWOaB9

That is sad to hear about Coco. But she lived to a good age, and was well fed and cared for during that time.

Delighted to hear Bob is going strong, and that CeDe is still there with him.

Bob's story has been one the nicest things I followed in years, and I can only offer my fondest thank you to you for saving Bob and for sharing his story on here for all to follow.

Here's to plenty more updates on Bob and CeDe.

:( I came into the house yesterday and notice that Bob was sitting with his head pointed in the air and there was Blood on his neck. Looks like he lost quite a bit of Blood and was shaking ,i don't think he's eaten anything since last night and he's just sleeping, lethargic, not moving or waking up without shaking, should i take him to the vet to see is there anything they can do ,he stopped bleeding but it's getting a bit worrying maybe i should try to hand feed him ? . :(

here's to hearing good news after Bob's visit to the vet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭iamfromcork

He looks he may pull through, the vet said the first 24 hours are the most important and to feed him sweetened water. he started eating eggfood later today by himself so he's doing better but he can't move very well or fly much. The next few days will tell.

glad the thread got resurrected--hope Bob is ok

really curious if wild goldies would recognise his song or if it would be totally unique not having heard others?

what a job rearing him from that tiny bald chick you found

I didn't think there would have been much interest in his daily life lol. Was hoping the next post would have been Son of Bob :) not him getting injured

Do you know what happened yet? Was he attacked by one of the other birds, maybe the new goldfinch?

Wow. Nearly three years on since bob was taken in. Sorry to hear he got injured, hopefully he makes a good recovery.

one of the recent photos of Bob, this one from about two months ago:

sadly but after introducing the 3rd bird the other two have fallen ill. I've taken the canary to the vet couple of times, but we still can't figure out what causing this:

Bob is also affected by this condition. Now not only he's got a hole in his neck but also sore and swollen feet. At least he's eating well today and flying around the kitchen a little bit. No singing as yet, and he used to sing like mad everyday.

Oh dear, it almost looks like the new bird has introduced some kind of disease to the other two. I mentioned it before, but have you tried Bairbre O'Malley vets in Bray? She's a bit of a bird specialist (amongst other things).

I want to give him couple more days to recover, he's still very weak and mostly sleeps all the time, I'm just glad he's eating. He lost a big drop of blood which looked A LOT comparing to the size of the bird and I say it'll take him a while to built his strength back up. Travelling to the vet and examination is very stressful and can even kill little birds like that. On the way back from the vet two days ago Bob was just lying motionless on the bottom of the travel cage with his eyes closed - it obviously took a lot out of him.

No problem, I understand how fragile birds, or indeed other small animals are when sick. I was just wondering what vet you'd used, seeing as you were in Bray anyway if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I hope both he pulls through, he showed he was a fighter when he was just a tiny chick, so I'm confident he will.
