Aw, she's not ugly. So she's not TV/movie cute, but I think she's lovely and I bet she has real character and is a gem to be with.
    How old is she, Neilw?

Okay, it's official. Those last two pictures in this thread have killed me with the cuteness!!
That's the real danger of these dogs, as far as I'm concerned, they're so damn smart that they know how to work the adorableness, in order to wrap you around their paws and get what they want!

I am by no means an expert but everything I have read and encountered re bull breeds (mainly staff) is that their big downfall if anything is too loyal (especailly with family members and more so children) and need socialisation

quite a few people had these dogs around when I was a kid and they roamed freely until the whole DEVIL dog BS come forth via media over kill

if I were in the position right now I would have one in the morning (although one of the smaller english type breed ;))

And if I had better circumstances (and a seperate couch) - a rescue bull lurcher ;)

I wonder if this thread was started as a troll...... Not sure what answer the OP is looking for

I can't believe it took 36 posts to realise this!!! :p

I own a Staffie, she's mixed breed but she's the most affectionate dog I have ever met. She is always looking for hugs and attention, and she is perfect around my friends children.

People need to realise that it's not the dogs, it's the owners!!!

The problem is not with the breed but with the owner of the dogs. Pitbulls and Rotties have bad press because they are used by groups in society to intimidate others, look at the amount of rappers who have these dogs with cliped ears and acting aggressive in videos. Same here in Ireland especially among young men who see them as an alternative to carrying a gun or knife. You need to go after these owners not the responsible ones.

Yesterday an organisation called the Players Club held a Dog Weight Pulling demonstration day in Spiddal. As I know a few dog lovers from the area we decided to take a look. The dogs were adorable - mainly Bull Breeds. At first glance one could of thought that it was a meeting of some right wing group. Lots of big men, with big muscles, big tattoos & shaved heads.

I would be the last person to stereotype but some local people that I spoke to felt rather intimidated so much so that one actually called the Guards - who amazingly turned up !. The locals felt like trespassers even though it was billed as a family event.

Worst of all no attempt was make to show the nice temperament of the dogs or to ally obvious fears. The pulling part consisted of a rather reluctant dog being cajoled into pulling a cart. There was a large sign stating that all dogs must be muzzled but none were. A local lady gently enquired as to whether they should be muzzled & got a very frosty reply.

One of my friends said that the dogs deserved better than this & I am inclined to agree. The people here who love their Rotties & PBs need to get out as much as possible & show the public how nice these dogs really are.

No right wing connection here, but guilty of shaved head, muscles & tattoo's!.

Its hard to think of a dog as "nice" when your legally obligied to have it muzzled, on a short lead and not under the care of someone 16yrs or younger when we've got our dogs outdoors.

On the BBC website, I cam across a press release for tonight's Panorama episode which is about the RSPCA and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and the dire situation they are in because of people abandoning their animals.

I found this bit very interesting:
By far the biggest single group of dogs coming into Battersea Dogs & Cats Home are bull breeds and bull breed crosses – many of them Staffordshire Bull Terrier types known as "Staffies". They account for more than half of the home's longer term residents.

Hard-looking dogs have become a status symbol on the street. And the Staffordshire bull terrier, once highly regarded as a loyal family pet, has become a casualty of that fashion.

"In 1996 we took 396 Staffordshire bull terriers. Last year we took 3,600, so that is an 850 per cent increase over that time span and for us that's a huge problem – we can't actually kennel these dogs with other dogs in many cases. They have to be given an individual kennel. So that has a huge impact on kennel space at the home," says Scott Craddock.

It really angers me that the reputation of these dogs is in such tatters because of these good for nothing yobbos who treat them so badly.

And that is why restrictions on RBs makes no sense, the only people it hurts is those responsible people who care about their dogs, who have well behaved, well cared for dogs. Those yobs who don't care about the well being of their dog, won't follow the law, won't be responsible and these are exactly the ones who are the danger.

Seen that Pananorama programme this evening, absolutely awful looking at how those staffies were selection, a grumble and the dog is destined for the chop.

Hardly. It is a bit different when there is a large group. There are plenty of ordinary guys who look fit that description but they are not in a large group & are not viewing the public, who they invited, with disdain. These people could of promoted their breeds rather than emphasising the strength & size of the dogs.

I think that the staff at BDH do an amazing job. Rescue is about life & death choices because you can't rescue every dog. If a dog will take 6 months to re-home it will be denying several, just as deserving dogs, a chance.

At least the UK are publicising this & the lawmakers are becoming aware of the huge upsurge in Staffies. It could go one of two ways. Some form of licensing & control or another breed ban. Proportionally our situation is many time worse that the UK.

Cesar Millan explains it very well in one of his books (can't remember which, i've read them all) Anyway he explains that breeds like rotties, pit bulls etc always attract the wrong sort of owner, in the US no self respecting drug dealer would be without his snarling hound by his side. One example of a 'red zone' dog was one which was rescued after the poor thing was set on fire by thugs because he lost a dog fight. Is it at all surprising that this dog wanted to kill every human he came in contact with? Of course not. These scumbags who train dogs to kill don't train pommies ro poodles or jrs, they always use rotties, staffs, bit pulls etc hence the undeserved bad rep.

I would personally never allow children to be alone with a dog because you just never know when a kid pushes a dog a bit too far, however I would have no problems bringing one of these breeds into my house and raised properly.

Un unbalanced lab or collie is just as dangerous as an unbalanced restricted breed.

Absolutely spot on. 100% agree with you.
