Started playing this a few months ago myself. Enjoying myself more than in recent WoW expansions :) On EU Phoenix with a few friends but none are Boards regulars to my knowledge. Currently have a level 64 Scholar. Really enjoyed Heavensward. Hoping Stormblood is also enjoyable. POTD isn't anything to write home about. Doing your MSQ, Job and Daily dungeon/trial is generally a good mix to keep levelling I've found.

How are people finding the new expansion? Stopped playing about a year ago but I could see myself getting back into things. Had a Pally, Dark Knight, and Monk at L60.

Question: Does anyone here do any raiding? If so how does it compare to other MMO's & difficulty-wise? This is the only MMO I've played. I remember fighting Nael Deus Darnus for the first time. Holy mother of god!

From talking to friends who have raided in WoW, it seems like the fights can be a bit more technical, and it can be easier to mess up due to having only 8 people. Otherwise it seems they are pretty similar. The most interesting aspect to me was that one of the guys failed to clear one a few nights ago, but still enjoyed himself. Don't know the name of the raid off the top of my head though.

Ugh I just got sucked back in by the 4.2 patch after a 5 month break..... completely addicted again. New raid tier seems great fun, new trial is brilliant with a nostalgic FFXI vibe. There goes my life for the next few months.....

Cheers Rope, downloaded it now so now just need to decide what class i wanna rock :pac:

Want to say thanks again Rope for all that info, very helpful.

Bit of an update now, im inching towards level 20, I'm an Arcanist aiming for Summoner.

If i want to try other classes, should i role a new character or just change my current character?

Also would there be any real benefit to get the game now and all expansions for the leveling process?

Like do i get crazy xp boosts? free level booster? loads of helpful items?

I did get a ring with a 30% xp boost which works up until lvl 30, it was only recent i got it to and i think i could have obtained it ages ago, which im a bit mad over :D

Also professions, do i just pick them all up or best to just pick a few?

I'm found the game very confusing at first but am alot more comfortable now, still lost at times but getting there..

New content/patch out next week. Always look forward to new dungeons to sink my teeth into. Unfortunately, having decked out in full 360 gear on main, I've had little reason to really log in lately as I've avoided savage sigmascape this time around. Having said that, no other MMORPG is able to scratch the itch... WoW is the usual daily filler, hit max-level in TERA and just not feeling up to it, I'm too far behind in Black Desert and Neverwinter, Allods Online has had a new update/class added but as much as I love it, I just can't bring myself to invest in it right now, and Guild Wars 2 failed to re-capture me.

FFXIV is just too good, albeit built around the concept of 'breaks are good'.

Is it not today (Tuesday) the patch is out? I thought thats why the servers have been down all day

I'm currently level 52 (Ninja), i rerolled as i didnt like the look of the summoner i made, he looks grand as a magic caster but anything else and he would look lame which would piss me off :pac:

I'm chipping away, just doing quests to level up, everything else is just overwhelming. I'm not sure ill stick with Ninja long term, its fun and all but eh, ah sure we will see, ill stick with it until 70 and then try something else.. a healer or bard maybe..

I've been advised to not bother with any profession jobs until i max, not sure why, maybe because of an xp boost? I may not even bother with them, are they necessary? I always found leveling professions in wow a chore :D

Well i got fed up leveling all my characters in wow and got the trial of this, i did play back when they re launched it. Im enjoying it a fair bit picked monk type dude, on the trial at the moment but enjoying the combat still looks lovely the animations are better than i recall from my first experience. Il see if it gets its hooks into my veins.

There's a new deep dungeon added in a recent update. It's decent fun, but fairly similar to the last one they added really

Rope is your FC open to members or is it an endgame one and only recruited in?

i have been thinking about jumping into this for the new xpack, but i am wondering does it work like wow as in if i buy the latest xpack all the previous ones are included in that one time purchase ?

If you buy this: https://store.eu.square-enix-games.com/en_EU/product/445774/final-fantasy-xiv-online-complete-edition-pc-download (which is actually on sale atm), that will give you everything.

Buying Stormblood on its own is not enough. You would need to purchase both A Realm Reborn & Heavensward and complete the main story in both previous expansions in order to play the Stormblood content.

    Yes, that is correct.
If you pre-order Shadowbringers, you only get access to HW and SB content on the 28th June...Not today!

If you are looking to play through the game before then, just pick up the Complete Edition.

It's only €17? Hmm, might get that myself. If i already have the base game, with no DLC, can i still get that version?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

ah i think il wait because i want to play as one of the new races so no point buying it now i suppose. Q_Q

Started an Arcanist today. Have a lvl17 already, but figured starting again with a different character is better. I'm told i can mostly skip side quests, and just the the main/class quests plus a few fates? That would be good, as i remember the side quests being quite tedious last time i played.

I have been slacking on this of late, was about to get my first chocobo :P. Need to get my ass back in as i want to play as a machinest class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,939 ✭✭✭nix

The grinding needed to level other classes once the main quests are done is what made me stop playing this, it takes aaaaages :(

Anyway, might return for up coming expansion, i did like a lot of what the game had to offer. Just a bit too much of a grind if ya wanna level a different DPS :(

It really doesn't, not compared to others. I'm levelling a MNK in WoW out of boredom and it'll take longer to do that than it will to eat your XP food, do your daily roulettes and maybe some leves in FFXIV. It is also infinitely faster if you're levelling a Tank or Healer (for obvious reasons) - I was very happy to spam dungeons. Faster still if you have collector edition items, faster if you're in a guild who keeps the XP buff applied, and faster again if you've got your Command Squad done up and are earning XP scrolls each week. It never took me long to level other classes in FFXIV once you get how it clicks, whereas in WoW you really do feel like paying for a boost would just save you hassle, and even then those last 10 levels feel like an eternity.

I found WoW more fluid though, you arent scrounging for quests in wow. I actually cant really remember what pissed me off in FF, i just remember that i was just doing the dungeon/raid dailies for the sick xp, and then anything else felt like a chore..

But yeah i had the wow leveling down to a fine art and with FF i had trouble absorbing everything, found myself asking what guildies likely deemed stupid questions a lot :D so yeah, likely right i just didnt know enough to make the leveling life simpler :P:pac:

Started mucking about in this again myself. Quite nice that I just randomly signed in and it gave me 7 days free time.
Created a new character and just grinding through. Hit 30 last night and finished the BLM quest. Gonna try keep it going this time as there is no other mmo that even remotely interests me out there right now.

I love that you can do any class on one toon and the lore is fairly deep.

Additionally there are lots of filler activities like player housing ECT .

Finished up the base storyline and quests on Monday. Very enjoyable at the end. Although for BLM, one of those last fights is nuts.
Didn't get a single chance to attack. Just spent the round dodging blue beams on the the ground while the rest of the raid did the dirty work for me :D

One thing for BLM in general - I could see a lot of people giving up on it before lvl 40. I almost did myself. But once you have Bliz III and Fire III, the class becomes really enjoyable and even moreso when you hit 50. Also the story is fantastic, if a little sad at the end.

Just about ready to move into Heavensward content now except the game has given me about 200 unlock quests for hard dungeons. Once I've cleared up the quest log I'll move into that.

Side note - I also ran into my first Hildibrand quest line... wtf was that. I honestly sat there with my mouth wide open for most of it. Frickin hilarious.

I tried again to get through the leveling, but couldn't hack it. If i could skip those side quests, it would probably be fine, but i just can't resist accepting any and all quests in games...it's bloody annoying :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,307 ✭✭✭Xenoronin

I'm usually the same, but for the most part, the MSQ and dungeons kept me occupied so I never needed the side quests. When I was stuck for a bit of experience, I just did the hunting log and finished out the Novice Trainer stuff. I dunno what quality of side quests there are. I never want to go back to levelling... It wasn't the best experience, and without an MSQ to entertain, I don't know how people do it.

I would advise leaving all side quests and just focus on the main quests, save the side quests for when you inevitably level another class. Unless of course you really enjoy doing them :pac:

But eh, story wise, i found the base game story pretty meh, Heavensward was quality though, stormblood is good too, i think most favor SB but i really digged HW..

Forgot to unsubscribe, so i guess i'll give it another go skipping the side quests :P

It is way more engaging in almost all aspects once you get to Heavensward content. Good luck!
