Well he missed a huge part of the season so you wouldn't expect him to maintain his peak for any duration. Plus, I reckon he went off the boil after the Olympics with his graduation and all.

Still, its just an end of track season race. All the main stuff is done and dusted. Roll on London 2017.

Missing so much training probably played a part alright. I wouldn't describe the Weltklasse as Just an end of track season race. Most important race of the season after the Olympics and Europeans.

He was training in UL on Tues.

No reason for him to be any more knackered than the winner.
I would have to agree,he looked really tired from the gun,I think the festivities on Limerick might have played a part

Great North Run on BBC1 right now. Elite women's race starting at 10:15. Elite men's race and mass start at at 10:40.

Amusing trivia: The Great North Run has the greatest number of participants in any Half Marathon in the World, with more than 41,000 runners. Assuming around £25/entry for the race, that's around £1M. Prize structure for winners: $800/$500/$300.

More than 57000 their today Krusty, that was some overhead shot of them there.

Good run from Mark English in 500m race , narrowly beaten by Rudisha, at great north run. Two 800 runners first and second , with 400 m boys beaten.. beat Martin Rooney, and Green from GB..

You have to assume there are appearance fees for the top runners too, yeah?

Yep there is, but this race has gone down hill as a competitive event the last few years .

It's more like £55 to enter, and around £85 if you're entering through the international ballot.

    +1

It's been crap since Brendan Foster decided to make it all about the Mo show.

Great Run took over my local 10km and half events in the last year. Gone from prizes in multiple categories, and for team and local runners, to now being only the top three and only if you were one of the invited elite runners that are eligible for prizes. For the 10km earlier in the year there only seemed to be a total of about 10 "elite" numbers for men and women combined. They do still have timed start waves at the local event, but have been and watched/ ran with a mate in the Birmingham event in the last couple of years and the start waves are determined by what music preferences you put on the entry form!?!?!

Have the half coming up in a week, but think it will be the last time I support the event if it continues down the same line. Bad move to have sold out to Great Run as far as I can tell.

Appearance fees don't incentivise a runner to perform well in a race, though I daresay the appearance fee contract would probably make for interesting reading. I used to look forward to these races (more because there isn't a lot of athletics on TV on a Sunday morning apart from the occasional marathon major), but just don't think I'll bother any more. Was nice to see Ritzenheim taking the race on, but the inevitable handing over of the reins to Mo, was.....well.....inevitable.

    Great Edinburgh International XCountry
    Saturday, 7 January
Live coverage: 13:15-15:15 on BBC One

The BBC coverage includes the 4x1k mixed relay and the two senior races:

Seems like a good line-up (McCormack, Muir, Farah, ...):
