Thurs 3rd Nov, 3 mls recovery in 31'03 (10'21) in the heath and around (used the light from the track through the park). Legs were ok first 2 mls but had enough over the last mile. Not over Dublin yet. Might take tomorrow off and see how i am Saturday. Big few weeks of training ahead with the waterford half on the way in 5 weeks.

Going to do the Dungarvan 10 on the 29th January. Sub 60 would be the goal for now but we'll see what happens between now and then. Felt like i'll need a trip home to get me through the January blues. I've done the race twice in '07 and '08 and its a cracker.

Sat 5th Nov, 4 mls easy/recovery in the heath in 35'00 (8'45). Legs felt a little better today and i may be able to resume normal training next week.

Sun 6th Nov, 5 mls easy in 42'41 in the heath and heath extension. Legs felt great today (full of life) for a change. Lovely scenery today with the fallen leaves, very new england like. I'm ready now to get back into it properly from tomorrow.

Weekly Review, 38.5 mls and 4 runs. Struggled through DCM on Monday but i seem to have gotten over it now.

    Yearly Mileage
, 1677.5 mls. 320 mls in 8 weeks to hit the 2k? I should do that handy enough barring injury.

Mon 7th Nov, 4 mls recovery in 38'20 (9'35), serious speed tonight :) down towards primrose and regents, same route as my summer runs but dark :(

Dude, if you ease off the pints, introduce thresholds to your running and Chia seeds to your nutrition I can see you doing a sub 4 Marathon...;)

Reasons why you should come back to the track:

    - Your 400m time equates to a 2:41:08 Marathon
    - Your Marathon time equates to a 61.49 second 400m

    Just saying :)

Under strict instructions to go that slow ;)

Anything faster than 9 min miling for recovery runs would be counter productive for me.

Maybe my goal in road running is to close the gap between the 2 ;)

Ah look, next summer will be marathon training free, we'll see what happens then.

Running is not an equation only time that matters is the one on the clock as you cross the finish line:D

^ My running is a simple straight line equation, i get slower the further i go, quite simple really.

    Tues 8th Nov
, 6 mls easy in 50'55 (8'39) around the regents outer circle. It's fine for running easy miles but i'm not sure i could do speedwork here over the winter, its a bit dark and dangerous. I'll have to find another place.

Well you need to rectify this by training harder and smarter for longer distances. Haven't hit you with a HTFU recently so thought I'd pop in and oblige :)

^ You run one average marathon time and you think you own the place :D

    Weds 9th Nov
, session comprising of 3x2k @ HMP, 5 min recovery 6x200 @ 3k pace w/200 jog. 1.5mls w/u down to the Regents outer circle (so much for it being too dark for speedwork). Did the 2k's in 8'21, 7'58 and 8'00 so 6'40 and 6'25 pace roughly. Had to stop nearly to a walk on the first rep though to get through a construction site so ignore the first rep time as the effort was just as high as the other 2. Target HM pace for Waterford would be about 6'15-6'20. The 6 x 200m were tough. Did them in primrose on a gradual slope alternating between up and down so they were either tough or easy but i tried to maintain the intensity throughout.

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/127626383

1.5 mls w/d for 9.7 mls total. Good session.

Thurs 10th Nov, 5 mls easy in 42'55 (8'35) down towards the Emirates and my old house. Felt a little tired from last night.

20 mins core after, my first time doing it in 8 weeks! Will be sore tomorrow no doubt. I won't mind as long as London beats Doha tomorrow for the 2017 worlds.

I am speaking from experience. You may refer to me as the oracle in future if you so wish.

Are you coming home to run the Waterford half?

Yep, flying back alright. I may as well give up if i don't break 1'25. If everything clicks i could go sub 82 hopefully.

Good stuff. More importantly are you heading to Dublin that night for beer?

Well the beers back in Dublin idea was mine in the first place, that way anyone doing the Aware race could join in too. Flying into and out of Dublin so yeah. I'm coming home for the beers, the race is a mere afterthought :p

Ok so. I think we need to lay down some sort of pint wager for the half marathon so. I'll make sure to specify the rules a bit better this time so I don't get ripped off like I did in the 10 miler ;)

The bet was sub 55:50, nobody got ripped off you just didnt have the ability to run 55:49 or faster, don't take your frustration out on me :D

Sub 1:14:15 for 2 pints, you on? That means 1:14:14 or faster.

Might be a bit quick for me at the moment. Give me 1:14:30. It's winter remember and if the wind blows that day we are all fecked

I'm not up to that time i don't think. I was doped up on lemsip for the 10 miler and it may have been a once off. Gonna target sub 1'23 and see how that pace feels early on. The last 2 months have taken a bit out of me so i won't be 100% on the day.

Give me an 8 minute headstart and you may be in business :D

You're talking to the guy who blew up (or mentally gave up) up in his target half and full over the Summer/Autumn. Sub 83 would be a big run for me. The 8 minute handicap bet has me at 1'22'30 compared to your 1'14'30. Sounds fair enough surely?

you're a cute 'hoor. I'll have a think about it. Why don't you just get the lemsip into you again? Actually I may demand a urine blood test once you've finished running.

This weekend could prove to be costly. I have a bet on with Krusty as well. I'll feel like a bad bastard on the day wishing both of you fail but as long as I win I won't care :P

Ok let me know what you think. I've been considering using the lemsip max strength tablets for my next tough session and see what difference it makes. Maybe i'm going down the wrong road there though. Apparantly there's something in the UK version that's not in the irish version that makes it dodgy. Most likely thing is that my consistent training is now paying dividends (never got a run of 12 months injury/exams free training before)

Is that on Krusty breaking 28 in Aware? Odds are in your favour big time there, i'd go 3/1 or 4/1, unless its a short course, i want a slice of that pie too please :p

If you go 82 minutes or under it'd be criminal not to train for London and go for sub 3.

With my genetics I think i'd want to be sub 80 for a proper sub 3 attempt. I'll be aiming for something close to that in the Silverstone half in early March.

I've a feeling anyone reading this log will be out buying lemsip soon enough ;). Seriously i felt horrible the day before and on race morning and had 8 max strength tablets taken beforehand. Never thought for a second they would be performance enhancing but who knows??

Fri 11th Nov, 4 mls easy at lunchtime in the freezing fog shrouded Heath in 33'01 (8'15) followed by 6 x 80m strides afterwards. Didnt have time for the prescribed 6 mls.

Sat 12th Nov, had an hour window to go running at 8am as i was going to Cheltenham for the day after. However, the alarm went and last nights resulting hangover was in full swing so enforced rest day. London 2017 and ireland qualifying had to be celebrated so no regrets. Cycled to Paddington station and back (5 + 5 mls) which is better than nothing i suppose.

    Sun 13th Nov,
12 miles progression (8.30, 8.20, 8.10, 8.00, 7.50, 7.40, 7.30, 7.20, 7.10, 7.00, 6.50, 6.40) was the plan for today. Started out in the heath and up to the extension, then down the Finchley Road to the Regents Outer Circle (where else). It was all fine and easy until about mile 9 where things slowly unravelled. It became hard work at 10 and 11 was rough. Last mile i was close to all out to maintain pace and ended it at a crossroads 0.2 mls short, tbh i was all a bit dangerous at that pace in the dark. If i'd stayed on the circle i would have finished the run ok but i would have ended up 3 mls from home so fck that.

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/128459345

    Weekly Review
, 6 runs and 41 mls. Not bad but the end of the progression run was disappointing today.

    Yearly Mileage
    , 1718 mls.
