See you there but I've a funny feeling you'll be gone before the 16 mile marker.

He'll be gone before the one mile marker - don't mind him he's going for 3:30.

Weds 26th Oct, 7 mls easy with the club in 59'57 (8'34) around the heath and down towards the heath extension. Hilly run but felt fine. Not sure why but my natural easy pace always seems to gravitate towards 8'30 miling. 3'45 pacing is perfect for me i think :)

Thurs 27th Oct, 7 mls easy followed by 6 x 200m in 35-37 secs was the plan for today. Did 7.3 mls "warm up" in just over an hour (8'28 pace) through the heath and down through the extension (deja vu), did 3 mls on the grass then back towards the track. Floodlights are on Thursday nights on the track in the heath for Highgate AC's training, if i'm there before 7pm i have an empty illuminated track to myself :D Started knocking out the 200m's but the legs felt heavy. Struggled to hit the times, they were 38, 37, 38, 38, 39, 37. Warm down of approximately 0 mls :p for 8 mls total.

Last time running in the heath after work until March :( Will try to do more lunchtime runs there over the winter.

Fri 28th Oct, (yes i'm pretty sure it's Friday today :p) 4 mls easy at lunchtime in the Heath in 33'50 (8'28). Lovely day for it and felt ok after a mile or so. The legs feel a bit heavy so i might go for an ice bath in DCU tomorrow after i run and take Sunday off just to be sure.

Looking forward to the weekend now. I cant remember the last time i knew so many people doing the one race. My flatmate (Aussie girl) goes for 3'30 and is a nervous wreck. Quite an ambitious target for her first marathon but she's up to it.

Sat 29th Oct, 6 mls easy in 50'22 (8'24) around DCU. 2 laps of St. Clairs then 3 laps of Albert College Park. All going well until i get the right calf twitching (wtf) after 4 mls. This happened for the first time in the Frank Duffy this year and it feels like the early stages of cramp. Got back just before the downpour. Did my 2 hr stint at the expo then after. I forgot how small the expo is. Unfair to compare it to the London and Berlin ones though i suppose.

Both knees seem to be picking up niggles. Feel fine apart from that and taking today off just to be sure.

I think not giving myself enough of a rest since Berlin is coming back to get me now. Yesterday was the 4th time its felt like someone has been pouring cold water over the side of my right knee in the last 2 weeks (weird) yet its all internal. My legs are amazingly resilient though so i'l be fine

In other news my ballot application for the olympic park run was unsuccessful. I had a 1 in 10 chance but i thought i'd get it. So thats what it feels like to not get a ballot place in something :) It's the day before Reading anyway so i didnt want to do it

    Mon 31st Oct,

Hung, drawn and quartered. DCM pacing.

Put my name down for this a few months ago to keep my run of DCM's going. I've done them all since 2007 and 5 in a row had a nice ring to it. My Barca time was enough to pace 3'45 and that seemed fine to me. Took Sunday off to try and freshen up the legs but with Berlin 5 weeks ago and a career best 61 min 10 miler since. Had a nice few pints and a bit of vino Sunday night and i was mildly hungover heading down into town for the pacer meeting. Pacer meeting my arse, we were sitting around for 40 mins in the hotel lobby.

Got our balloon, there was only 2 purple 3'45 ones. The other burst before we got there. Lined up beside my partners in crime Jackyback and Macanri and away we went. First mile was .9 of a mile roughly. What a joke and the organisers should be ashamed of themselves as this happened last year too. You wouldnt see London or NY doing this. It was quite warm and i was sweating quite heavily the first 3 mls. Entered the park and we were down about 15 seconds we think, not sure with the mile markers though. Stopped to water the bushes and offloaded my balloon to Macanri. As i was catching up with the 2 lads JB's balloon pops. Oh sh*t down to one, we had better be careful the rest of the race. Like a midfielder in soccer getting booked in the first minute kind of thing.

Seemed to be back on track timewise but the Laurence Road killed my legs. From here onwards they were in pain and i wanted to stop running. Got dropped by the pacers around mile 11 :), they got a worrying 30m ahead of me at halfway and i was "off the bridle" as they say in horseracing. Copped on to myself a bit after that and i got back upsides the 2 lads. Miles 14, 15 and 16 were fine and we were bang on schedule. Legs cried out again around Milltown and the 2 mls to Roebuck Hill were as bad as ever. I was living my own personal hell here and if this had been my own race i may have pulled the plug. I was counting down the mile from here on, telling myself i was fine, come on its only 8'30 per mile.

We were about 15 secs up with 3 mls to go and i wanted to win my bet with Meno to see who could hit our -30 secs target so i left the lads get ahead of me again. This time they got about 40m clear and JB thought i was out. They came back to me though and we were upsides the last mile. Atmosphere was great the last mile and i rallied the crowd a couple of times at my fav spot in the race, the right turn onto Westland Row just after the Ginger Man pub. With 365 yards to go i knew i was bang on target and eased in for a 3'44'32 finish. Happy to finish i have to say and it was more painful than any other race i've done. Hit the pub for the night after, no other night brings out so many other boardsies, great to see so many heads.

Took yesterday (flew back to London) and today off, badly needed and will try a jog tomorrow. Waterford half is nearly 5 weeks away and the pb (1'25'01) is set to be beaten out of sight there if i run well on the day and have recovered from my autumnal activities in Berlin, Twickers and Dublin. My love for the marathon was far from reignited on Monday. I can almost say i hate them tbh. If it wasnt for London in April that is.

I have to say thanks to Macanri and Jackyback for an enjoyable day and to the pace group organisers for looking after every detail.

Good running with you Brian, Jesus I knew you were suffering but did not imagine how much by, no matter what pace it is a marathon is a marathon!! Rest up a bit before you crack into training for the half.

In fairness you had just as much drink as me and so did the other fella (as fellow pacers we shouldnt rat out our colleagues ). Never thought i'd say this but you seem to be able to hold the drink better than me these days.

I was up 5 minutes before my alarm. I just miscalculated the time needed between getting up and getting in the taxi.
