although it doesn't recognise every captcha, i think - like for hotfile free anyway. you need to input yourself for some of the sites iirc.

I'd consider myself a heavy downloader but I can still find pretty much anything I need on Rapidshare, just takes a bit longer sometimes. But as others have said already, there is definitely a swing away from Rapidshare and Hotfile seems to be choice most are going for. Don't feel the need to switch yet though.

Rapidshare have changed their system all over again, and I don't think it is for the better:

New claim, new website, new features
RapidShare has completely redesigned its website and is taking off with numerous new features. After we kept the website simple and functional for years, from now on, our users will be met by a youthful and modern design. This is reflected on one hand by a visually attractive user interface. On the other, we have designed the website pages and content to be much better arranged and user friendly, and in addition, we have integrated a few new functions.

The most striking innovation has to be the introduction of RapidShare as an Anti-Waiting Company. What is behind this? Quite simply, it is the thought that waiting sucks, whether it lasts for a minute or half an hour. RapidShare wants to do something about this and has imagined something special for all its users: in the Anti-Waiting Lounge, users from now on can sweeten their waiting time and test themselves on various online games. We brought the old classic Cosmic Defender back to life for the launch of the Lounge. This will soon be followed by other cult games.

As an additional feature of the website, we are currently testing an application called RapidContact, thanks to which our users all around the world can come into contact with each other, get to know each other and communicate with each other. More information about this will be available in the coming weeks. We want to test the functionalities with selected users in a beta version first and work on the further development of the application with them.

An adjustment has also been made to our price structure. Following the introduction of RapidPro in July, we took three months to observe and evaluate the response of our users. The result: the prepaid model with the purchase of Rapids was overwhelmingly well received. However, many customers have expressed the wish that, when they purchase RapidPro, they should have a larger amount of disc space and traffic available to them than is the case at the moment. We are now making this wish come true: From this point on, every RapidPro user will receive five times the amount of disc space and traffic, i.e. 50 GB of storage and 150 GB of traffic every 30 days.
The costs are of course changing accordingly: 30 days of RapidPro now cost 495 Rapids. The smallest Rapid Package has 500 Rapids and costs 5.99 Euros. In addition, packages with 1,000, 2,000, 6,000 and 20,000 Rapids are available. Whoever activates RapidPro directly for 12 months receives the 12 months at the special price of 5,499 Rapids and is given VIP status. VIP customers will be favoured in future beta tests and receive invitation codes for RapidContact. As before, users can purchase additional traffic quotas on top of this, in 100 GB slices. 100 GB are charged per 280 Rapids.
We hope all our users will enjoy exploring the new RapidShare website.

That explains why my 222 "Rapids" are now useless without my buying more. :mad:, not to mention the new interface is far too cumbersome.

I've had enough - all these abortive changes over the last few months have made it more trouble than it's worth.

Have any of the other options emerged as the "Winner" yet?

Anyone having problems downloading from Rapidshare today?

I've ~1,500 Rapids and 45G worth of traffic left so I've not run out, but nothing can be found when i put the rapishare links into Free Download Manager.

Anyone else experiencing this??

I have the same trouble. Every link I try i am only getting 70kb files.

I was getting all dead links in the Manager but just paste them into the URL bar and it was fine (for me anyway).

Log in to your rapidshare account and enable direct downloads and your download manager should work again. This is disabled by default in the new control panel.

Did this and the download manager will allow only one download at a time. Any clues for multiple downloads?

I'm actually using Fileserve alot and find it great and I don't even have a premium account. The links and plentiful and I don't even think I'll need a premium account. Rapidshare is gone to sh!t

It's not much more expensive, but it is more expensive.

150GB of traffic in a month would previously cost you 435 rapids (99 rapids for 30gb traffic, and then 14 rapids per 5GB over that).

Now it's costing you 495 rapids - an increase of 60 rapids, which is losing you 20GB of traffic every time you spend 495 rapids.

Under the old system, for €55 you got 1825GB/year at a maximum (i.e. if you used 5GB per day or never let your traffic accumulate over 25GB).

Under the new system, you get 1800GB/year for 5500 rapids (you must purchase 1 year in a block to get this price). Purchasing 2x2000, 1x1000 and 1x500 rapids for a total cost of €55.74.

So the price has increased, marginally. However, unlike the old time-based system, where if you occasionally downloaded from RS then you weren't getting value for money as your account expired after the 1 year anyways , you can stretch your money a little further by turning off auto-renew RapidPro each month and topping up as required when you run out of traffic. I'll last about 12 months with my current rapids, but I've not given them any money in a few months either

I'll last even longer if I can work with the whole RS Happy Hours.

I think once I'm done with RS, I'm done. I don't believe they'll get money out of me again.

@ Noxin - in FDM if you go into Settings - Downloads - Network there is an option for Maximum number of running downloads - i've this set to 5 and it works well

rapidshare is defo gone in my book my premium ac is still active till end of october but i have no traffic left looking for more money under the old way the account worked untill it expired im changing over what a way to treat long term subscribers

Your logic only works out if it was costing more for the same service. It isn't - it's costing more, for more.

Now instead of renewing RapidPro once per month and getting 30gb of traffic every time, you renew RapidPro once and get 150GB of traffic. That will last you five months taking your current usage of 30gb per month. You can disable the auto-renewal of RapidPro every month, I've done it just there.

If you play it clever you'll notice that you can buy 100GB of traffic for 280 rapids. This is a cost of 2.8 rapids/gb, whereas using RapidPro you're paying 495 for 150Gb, or 3.3 rapids/gb. For people who just use RS for downloading, or for users who upload but don't care about "secure" storage, aka files that don't expire due to inactivity, this is the much better option for spending rapids.

The only way it works out MUCH more expensive, is if you're using RS to host your files securely. If you want secure storage, you need to be a RapidPro user with time left on your account, so you're forced to pay those 495 rapids per month, whether you want to or not.


Just as a little addendum for you... 30GB/month = 360GB per year. Let's forget about happy hours. You say it was costing you €12 per year. Well 400GB of traffic costs 1120 rapids, which works out at €11.15 worth of rapids. I know you can't buy €11.15 of rapids, you need to buy €16 worth, but you couldn't buy €12 worth of rapids before the latest change.

I do agree with you that it was nicer when the amounts and costs were smaller, but realise that you're not really losing out or if you are, you're only losing a small bit.

It wont last five months. It will last one month, and then your account can't be used until you top it up again with another 495 Rapids. Your remaining traffic doesnt disappear but the account can't be used.

Thats what ive been trying to explain. Previously a light user (or someone using Happy Hours) could have an active working account for ~ €12 a year. Now it will cost a minimum of €60.

I'm under the impression that if I logged into my premium account, transferred 280 rapids to my old-school collector account (which was auto-converted into a premium account way back in June, and has 0 rapids total, and obviously has 0 days left on it's RapidPro) and clicked "Buy Traffic - 100GB" that I'd be perfectly able to download 100GB worth of stuff using that account.

Why can your account not be used if you're not a RapidPro member but have traffic left? Have you let your RapidPro lapse and then been told you can't use your account until you're a RapidPro user again? If what you're saying is true then there is no point in the option to "Disable auto-renewal of RapidPro"
