Can anyone with the Xbox version of this check and see if the extra zombie maps are available for download through Live. Don't want to shell out the extra for the Hardened edition if I can get the regular from Tesco and buy the maps online.

so how do ye get your cod money up?..im stuck on 500ish for ages now and i can only do the small betting on the wager matches til i get to 1000..winning games in tdm/domination seems to do **** all for getting money

My mate and I played 1 game each, and had like 3000 CP
You get it by ranking up, winning matches, wager matches, contracts and some challenges.

ye at the start i was raking in the CP but now sinc im rank 13 anyhting i do is worth nothing towards my cp

Ive been looking for funny videos of this 'dolphin dive'. Can you shoot while diving? Id love to dive off a 1st floor roof into a heap of enemies.

Didnt pick it up yet as I wasnt a fan of the last two treyarch games, but I popped into an internet cafe for an hour and gave it a whirl in single player (mostly cause Kotaku was foaming at the mouth in praise of it.)

Honestly I'd say in single player game design they never really topped the original call of duty. Dont get me wrong I loved modern warfare and so on, but the original nailed the battlefield feeling so much better at points with its hold the area segments (thinking of the british paratrooper bridge level and us marine hold the village level) where I genuinely felt there was a shifting frontline that could shift dramaticly. Modern warfare made up for the disapearance of this with well spaced well designed set pieces, a good romanticised immitation of what its like to be a spec op and gun ho action. But it did more so then the original funnel you down tight cover focused corridors and rooms (that are dressed up to look like anything but corridors and rooms until the last level.)

And thats fine.

Black Ops...

Black Ops is lacking something simple...pacing. Dont get me wrong there are some setpieces here that beat 90% of what was in the last two modern warfares easily without complaint, problem is they are stupidly short and follow far too quickly in succession of each other, barely giving me time to adjust to one before I had to shift focus (the key culprit here is the

bike chase (ala snowbikes in mw2) then lorry chase (ala mounted machine gun standard) then quicktime jump segment at the end of the prison escape level

But the pacing is stupidly broken, the game jumps into action with little to no build up again and again so you never get a feel for most of the setting much. The first level is probably the worse culprit for the broken pacing as it goes from *stay cool* to *knife in hand, bullets blazing, grenades into cop cars madness* in a blink of an eye which would be fine but barely 3 minutes into that we are

hoping into a car of our own and getting the worlds briefest and most unnecessary driving segment

then *cut* and we are now in a different area on a different day...

its very jarring.


I will give credit where its due, the second level makes up alot for the first, the music is fantastic, the atmosphere in its opening segments is intense and powerful, its a shame that it starts sort of in the middle and throws it at you so quickly and then ends it with the above mentioned rushed series of setpieces. But that moment where the music is at a crescendo as you cover your allies pushing the railcar is fantastic.

Also Treyarch despite doing a COD game, seemed to have taken a big step out from under infinity ward's shadow, the storytelling mechanics are very much their own here, breaking traditions infinity ward have persisted with such as a silent protaginist and no in game cutscenes and perserving player control over the camera during key events have been sort of exorcised in favour of a limited player control *at times* and high octane dynamic cutscenes that flow back and forth from first person to third person.

though the whole pentagon segment feels a bit wasted as you can do little to nothing during it...

one missed oppurtunity I felt was when they did a 24 style frame within a frame section with one of them being the players viewpoint that you could give a slight nudge here and there. Would have been cooler if that was done while the player was in full control still, might be a cool way to give briefings or mid mission updates while you move from point A to point B.


Overall I was a bit tempted to pick it up straight there, but I have a good bit of work to do over the next two weeks and I dont need the distraction, if my friends are still playing it in two weeks I'll grab it for 360, if not i'll grab it on steam,
