It is possibly a bit early for a thread for this game, but new teaser trailer from Treyarch for Black Ops is out on youtube now.

From looking at this, I didn't make out much.

But these guys have done a decent frame by frame de-construction of it and come up with some interesting points about possible additions to the game.

As you mentioned, it is hard to tell exactly whats going on in the trailer but hopefully its a decent game.

There's people all ready raving about this game purely from the trailer, to me its just a blur with video images and will reflect no comparision to the real game play.

Did you look at the second video? They freeze frame the images and pick out bits of relevant info.

Oh my God, this game is gonna be beast. I can tell. I know you can too.

I'm betting of the Vietnam missions will be very similar to Apocalypse Now, the trailer reminds me of that movie, and one level in W@W was pretty much identical to a scene from Enemy At The Gates. It would also suit the title of Black Ops

I've heard bits and pieces that some form of it will come back.

Does Anyone Else Think That The Way Modern Warfare 2 Is Sometimes Referred To As MW2 That Black Ops Will Be Referred To As BO Or Body Odour ?

Developers have been fairly influenced by movies. In MW2, there were a few references to The Rock. The shower room battle and the flares at the end of Whiskey Hotel.

Or CODBO. I like the sound of 'Black Ops', nice and sufficient!

What are people's thoughts on the way theyre working the killstreaks in black ops , will it stop some of the camping or make it even worse

I would have thought it might actually be the same , if not worse

And for the time, damn fantastic they were too. Even to this day, they've got a very admirable cinematic feel to them - no FPS game has actually really attempted to recreate d-day since, so we're left with a PS2/Xbox title holding the crown, though the Cliff scaling in COD2 was rather excellent too, but just not quite the same as a frontal beach assault. Another honorable mention goes to D-Day in Allied Assault, but that's even pre Call of Duty original, also Dog One in Day of Defeat 3.0, absolutely fantastic beach invasion level, but again, that's going back about 8 years, and the one in Day of Defeat Source isn't as good, and there's no other FPS MP games that really feature D-Day either.

The scene in World at War when the Germans are driving past the fountain filled with bodies ala Enemy at the Gates was fantastic.

Couldn't really tell much from the original trailer but the second video pointed out a lot things that look great.

Can't wait for it, starting to get a bit bored of mw2.

Right on. I'd love if Apocalypse now got the same treatment in Black Ops, would make my spine shiver with awesomeness:D

In fairness, I've had MW2 since November, and only recently finished the game itself... I've been online at all other times, so its the online part i'd be curious about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Same as, bought MW2 originall on 360 on launch day, sold the 360 at xmas for a PS3, got MW2 on that in Feb, been playing it solidly since, we're talking 1-2 hours a night, which is a great value out of a game (even if it drives me fcuking nuts sometimes :D)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭Notorious97

I generally tend to finish the one player campaign within a day or so, then its all out on the online games :) i got mine in November MW2 when it was released, finished the game within two days tops, and since then i have been playing it non stop, occasionally playing Fallout 3 instead lol :)

its just the multiplayer i am really interested in too.

I must be the only one interested in the single player mode. :P

I like the Breach video above but not totally crazy on the helicopter level.

First thing i usually play is the single player mode , and in fairness to treyarch , waw was a lot tougher than mw and mw2.

In saying that the single mode can be finished in a couple of hours then its online.

I still very skeptical, waw was a let down.

World at War received high marks in virtually every review (Averaging 85%) and sold 13,000,000 copies - yes, Treyarch really needed to learn a lesson with that under performer!

Couple of things I've heard about Black Ops that stem from an industry "insider".

    1. You can choose 2 perks yourself. Your choice determines what your 3rd perk is.
    2. There will be an new armour system, with two examples being Cold Blooded and Juggernaut.
    3. The Famas is back, but it's not burst fire.
    4. No M4.
    5. Other weapons include a Sig Commando, RPK, Scorpion, Mac11.
    6. No Commando perk
    7. Scavenger doesn't replenish equipment.
    8. No One Man Army perk.
    9. Highest Killstreak reward at the moment is 15
    10. No emergency airdrop yet, but there is a care package.
    11. There will be vehicles.
    12. You can sprint to prone.
    13. Tac knife is gone. But there is a ballistic knife. (knife with spring so like a throwing knife??)
    14. Claymore is equipment so scavenger won't replenish it.
    15. Grenades are not equipment so will replenish from Scavenger.
    16. M16 is still the sh1t.
    17. The PSG1 sniper rifle is in the game. (G3 sniper rifle)
    18. UAV, Airstrike and 3 types of Chopper will be back. Pavelow is one of them but that has a unique feature to the game.
    19. The SR71 is one of the killstreak rewards. This is the Blackbird, so maybe like the stealth bomber but smaller.

It's pretty much accepted elsewhere, but not mentioned here, that there will be beta testing, so any unbalanced items might drop out. Also, killstreaks don't build each other, so you only get them from gun/equipment kills.

Sounds like Treyarch are doing a good job so far!

I really hope that this is true because that is the biggest flaw in MW2 for me. This should promote people to run and gun more making the gameplay more exciting and hopefully there will be less camping.

    bringing back jugga .....campers heaven
    vehicles........noobs galore

otherwise i'm looking forward to it , but more so the next ghost recon :)

It could actually work out more. Are you saying when someone gets to 10 kills their going to risk their streak by running around, or sit back and play defensive and pick people off? Hard to know. Hope it works out well though.

If something gets universal critical acclaim and sells by the absolute bucketload, it's generally an indication that regardless of whether or not you personally like the gameplay, that the general audience certainly did.

Sorry i disagree , while i liked the single player mode the online i thought was terrible and traded it in within a few weeks.
Regardless of what i thought of the game, it did sell over 11 million copies mainly because of the success of cod 4.
If its universal critical acclaim was so great why did it not win at least one goty award ?

You obviously know nothing about the cod community then. Its rubbish and the lack of people playing it online shows it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I've been playing it since it came out across PC and 360. Always plenty of players. Just because something didn't win a GOTY award doesn't mean it's not a great game - there are hundreds of games released every, obviously they can't all win the award. Personally I thought the online was brilliant - far more so on the PC then 360 though - but that's only an opinion, I wouldn't try and tell someone who thought that the game was poor otherwise, but I do think it's just a bit silly when people talk about the game with an air of 'everyone considers it incredibly sub standard'. Games don't sell 13,000,000 copies for no reason, nor do they receive positive media reviews, regardless of what they're based on or what franchise they stem from. Call of Duty 3 didn't sell as well as World at War, even based on the huge success of Call of Duty 2, nor did Call of Duty Finest Hour or Big Red One sell remotely as well as World at War, despite the incredibly strong franchise name at the time.
You obviously know nothing about the cod community then.

No need to get personal. I've been playing since Medal of Honor Allied Assault over 8 years ago; thats Call of Duty, United Offensive, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Call of Duty: Big Red One, Call of Duty 3, Modern Warfare, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, I've even played the handheld versions; the only ones I haven't played are Final Fronts, and Treyarchs conversion of Modern Warfare on the Wii. I don't know what exactly qualifies someone to be part of the 'community', but I Modern Warfare has produced it's own community over that of the previous games through sheer universal popularity. Me, personally I'd rather be playing COD2 or World at War, and I find simply being set in WW2 is enough for a great deal of newer COD fans to dismiss it instantly. I'm not saying that Modern Warfare isn't the better game - absolutely, of course it is. But World at War is a cracking game as well...in my opinion, of course.

It sold 13 million because it was part of the cod series.

While it had an incredibly strong first week on release, the game's sales would have been no where near 13 million if there was bad word of mouth.

Nothing wrong with it, just about time it came to the game in it's A1 or A3 from, rather than as the HBAR LMG.

Take a look at who's making a return :D Have to say he was a good character in WaW.

    http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Reznov

    Pic from Black Ops:

    http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100620132017/callofduty/images/1/17/CoDbo-Reznov.jpg

I've seen it mentioned that he's supposed to have defected to the West after WW2, but one of the missions he's in is set in 1968. If he's the same character he'd have to be around 60 (if not 70) by then? He had to be at least 40 in WaW.

Unless it's kinda like Cpt. Price from COD4, wasn't he in the earlier COD games?
