I like the title and I am delighted they have chosen not to do it in 3D.

As long as there is no Catwoman in the film I will be happy. Please no Catwoman .
We dont need to go down the kitsch route again.

It's a sh*t title. Sounds like something the Warner Bros. execs came up with. I can't think of an independent title as good as TDK, but Batman Rises would have been better imo.

Perhaps Nolan did have to do a little trade off to ensure having pretty much complete creative control. I mean having TDK in the title again does suggest clear continuity and attaches itself to the mega successful second film, so it can only be great for business.

    Agreed, he could turn up.

So anyone else think Mr. Zsasz could make an appearance in TDKR?

While I eagerly anticipate this film, the slow news trickle is driving me insane :pac:

Not a bad title IMO, does the job. I'm curious to see how they handle the story though, whatever about villains: obviously a big chunk of the film will have to focus on Bruce Wayne learning to deal with his inner turmoil given the ending of the last one. Plus, I can only imagine Gotham is going to have to go to **** to get him back in there.

Two years, though. Man, that's a long time to be waiting for a film, considering we've waited two already! But Nolan at least doesn't do rush jobs, so I trust it will be fantastic.

I can't imagine Zsasz being the main villain. He's just a serial killer in the comics and in the first film you get the impression that he's just a low level hood when he's on trial (why else would a gang boss try and get him off a jail sentence?).

This film will most likely show Waynes emotional struggle to remain as Batman as he starts to loose touch with his normal life. IMO, the villain has to present a clear danger to the entire city to make sure Batman is struggling to stop them. Zsasz would only be killing one woman at a time.

That's why I think someone like Hush, who is a kind of polar opposite to Wayne, would be good. Or Hugo Strange, who could be a psychiatrist Wayne needs to confide in, or somethign like that. I'd have thought the Riddler could be good as someone who has been hired to find out who Batman is and adopts the "Riddler" persona to try and flush him out.

As for a female character, I can't imagine Catwoman fitting into it, and I hope she doesn't. Talia al Ghul could work, as it ties in with the first film. Or they may just go for one of the non-supervillain ones like Vicky Vale or someone like that.

    No Riddler. Brilliant News.

    No 3D. Even better news.

But the title, not so sure, it might grow on me, but right now I think its a poor title.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a284652/nolan-dark-knight-rises-is-groundbreaking.html
Christopher Nolan has said that he hopes to make the next Batman film technologically groundbreaking.

It was revealed yesterday that the upcoming Warner Bros picture is to be called The Dark Knight Rises and will be shot in Nolan's preferred choice of high-definition IMAX cameras rather than 3D.

Explaining his decision, Nolan said that the introduction of 3D could disrupt the visual continuity of his rebooted franchise, and argued that he wants to retain the vast sense of "scale" that was present in the previous films.

He told the Los Angeles Times: "We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films. There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to The Dark Knight and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel.

"There's an intimacy at times [with the 3D effect] and we didn't want to lose scale... Our ambition for the third movie is to complete a story that has begun. This is not starting over, this is not rebooting. We're finishing something, and keeping a consistency with what's come before has real value."

Nolan went on to note that the high-definition cameras will potentially allow him to scale new heights of image quality on a cinematic scale, insisting that it will not be necessary to view the picture in IMAX to "see the benefits of the extraordinarily sharp, high-resolution".

He added: "We're looking to do something technologically that's never been done before. Our ambitions are to make a great movie."

The Dark Knight Rises is due to be released on July 20, 2012.

Good points and well made. Nolan really does have to bring something big to the table for the finale. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Have my fingers crossed that it will be Hush. The character fits so well into Nolan's take on the Batman universe, and Thomas Elliot could pretty much be torn straight from the original Hush storyline from the comics without any need to change him.

Also characters like Zsasz could be drafted in as part of Hush's gameplan against Bruce/Batman.

Other than Hush, I could see Hardy being a damn fine Red Hood or Black Mask.

Here's a crazy idea though that would be very unlike Nolan.
Batman 3 is due out in 2012
The new Superman is out in 2012 (well they hope anyway) and the Nolans are involved with it along with Snyder.

Maybe, just maybe, there will be a slight tie in between the films similar to what Marvel are doing with the Avengers and the seperate films.

A spin on the Dark Knight Returns storyline as a finale, or simply having a Superman appearance during the Hush storyline to give a loose connection to the comic version.

At this stage I'd be shocked if he's not Black Mask.

Careful now, I might try to take over this film much in the manner that I am trying to be the manager of a certain football club. :D

With Nolan, you had best ignore all speculation and just wait untill he announces some sort of confirmation.

That's the frame of mind i'm in. Leave people guessing and let talk and speculation about the film build.

It's still a year and a half away, So for people to be talking about it in this depth already and have rumours flying out so soon and not a few months before the release or after a comic con teaser trailer a year before usually is good marketing i thinks

Charlize Theron Wants To Play Catwoman In The Dark Knight Sequel

Theron is the latest actress to be linked to the role of Batman's feline foe. She would be more than happy to squeeze into Selina Kyle's Cat suit.

"It's news to me," Theron said about the rumor. "But that's kick-ass news. I like that. I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, and director Chris Nolan is a genius. So I would be an idiot to not consider that."

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a285689/batman-3-to-feature-clayface.html

he latest Dark Knight Rises casting rumours point to Clayface as the movie's villain.

According to ComicBookMovie, Kacie Thomas and Vera Farmiga have auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne's love interest Julie Madison.

The character was previously engaged to Wayne, and also targeted by Basil Karlo - aka Clayface - in the pages of Detective Comics. This has led to speculation that he might appear in Christopher Nolan's third Batman film.

Charlize Theron has also reportedly been approached to play Commissioner Gordon's love interest Detective Sarah Essen.

Former speculation that the film's main villain would be the Riddler has been quashed by Nolan. Tom Hardy has reportedly been cast in an unnamed role in the movie.

Now that that the Riddler has been ruled out, I'm really curious to see who the main villain will be. I think they need to have at least one villain that mainstream viewers will immediately recognise. Begins was the first film and they were able to sell it mostly on the basis of Batman himself, but so much of TDK's marketing focused on the Joker. Think of those earlier posters of the painted smiley face, would Clayface, Hush or the Black Mask invoke the same kind of anticipation? Would most people even know who they were?

I don't know that it matters all that much. People do seem to assume that there has to be a recognised villain, which rather narrows the options, but I don't know that it's true. The film will be sold as the sequel to TDK and for most people, that'll be enough. Will the Penguin or Catwoman or Poison Ivy really add to the hype?
