Botha will be gone in 2 years probably, when Ryan will be out of contract. He's only 28 next week so still young for a prop. If he can prove himself at the Dragons, I wouldn't be surprised to see Munster calling.

Unless the new rule change isn't implemented, is Botha not off at the end of next season? Afoa is on a 3 year deal and thus will automatically be the designated NIQ tighthead.

Hopefully he'll stay there next season. Great news for Munster.

I can't see him making it. Its a pity because he is a big, powerful ball carrier but struggles in the scrums. Archer would be a higher rated scrummager and he has a long way to go.

Theres light at the end of the tunnel as far as Irish props are concerned. Munster are well covered with John Ryan, Cotter, Kilcoyne and James Cronin coming through. The other provinces also have better props coming through.

Jack McGrath looks like a capable scrummager at LH at least

Is James Cronin a LH or a TH? Does he play at Young Munster with Cotter?

Cronin plays for Dolphin at loosehead. I think the props coming through in Munster now have all been tested at AIL/UBL level and are in their early 20's. Thats the best way to bring props through IMO.

that lad Condon at Dolphin has been destroying scrums in the AIL for a few seasons now, surprised he hasnt been used more at provincial level.

Timmy Ryan is not the answer, very poor in a shocking newcastle team last season.

Ryan could still come good, he's young enough in propping terms, really hope it works out for him.

In all fairness he's making all the right noises so far. He does have one hell of a task but I can't wait for next season.

He is certainly making all the right noises. Every time I read a new article about the man, I come away more impressed.

If he is even half as good at coaching as he is at giving interviews, there will be some exciting times again.

Jayz, that got me excited and he's not even coming to coach my team.

Is it true that Garret Fitzgerald wants Munster to reach the Heineken Cup final next season? If it is then he's already thrown Penney under the bus.

Thats a ridiculous task to lay in front of a new coach that will be in the process of rebuilding a squad.

We all want Munster to reach the HC final next season, win it preferably. But we don't expect that and I haven't heard that Fitzgerald expects it either, no. I'd be very surprised if he did tbh.

I'd say the new Connacht CEO wants them to reach the Heineken Cup final too!

So long as Garret doesn't "expect" it, don't see an issue. The Leinster fans wanted to win the Rabo this year but I wouldn't give Joe the bullet over it...

He sounds great. Hopefully he can stick with those ideas and implement them. It probably will take a bit of time (if things go well I'd say we'll be challenging before 5 years...hopefully anyway) but I think we have to be patient.

I'm genuinely looking forward to next season. A new Ireland manager from outside would be nice too.

I had the pleasure of bumping into David Wallace Wednesday evening at the MaryI football pitch. Stood in a photo with me and everything, a true proper gent. And the arms on that lad! He said the knee was okay to still be able play a bit of ball with his kids :) legend of a man!

He actually said everything that I wanted to hear,

i - A return to past glories will take patience and a few years of putting in serious effort with young players

ii - However short term improvements can be made fairly quickly to make Munster more competitive.

iii - Changing a culture is difficult and requires engagement with senior players, tradition etc, no "sledgehammer".

I was afraid that'd he'd come with very strong opinions on how things should be done, and would meet too much resistance to be effective. It's great to see that he's very mindful of that, especially considering some of the strong personalities at Munster.

The more I read about the guy the more I think that Munster have made a very shrewd decision. Can't wait for next season.
