cuttothechase, we can only sign a project player ie uncapped player. Liam Messam is capped so he's out. A good player though and exactly the type of atlhetic bruiser Munster need.

Yes, the backline looks promising. I don't know if this has been discussed already, sorry if it has but has the Munster managment made any strides in signing a world class backrow?

Quinlan, Leamy and Wallace are now permanently out of the picture. The guys we have are not cutting it in the most important area of the game, the breakdown. I am saying this comparing our backrow to Leinster and Ulster's. Our last southern hemisphere backrow signing was a flop (where's Nick Williams now - Itlay?).

I think the radar should be zoning in on someone like Liam Messam, especially since he didn't make the All Blacks 30 for the World Cup. Anybody know anything about his contract with the Chiefs? I know he's the captain but he has been there now for the bones of 6 years. I think a backrow of Peter O' Mahony, Dave O' Callaghan and Messam would be fresh. Anybody hear anything about a backrow signing?
Due to NIQ rules 4+1 and given that Botha, WDP, Howlett, and Lualala there is only room for a project signing.

Probably Penney will pick up someone from the NPC that would be a project player and he thinks can cut the grade at that level.

Whatever about the breakdown, Munster desperately need another ball carrying backrow. They are chronically short of them in their pack and that is a big part of their problem.

Don't want to be too harsh on the two lads but they probably should have been cut a year ago.The few times I saw Cusack play for Munster he looked like a rabbit caught in headlights.
Good luck to the two of them in whatever they choose to do.

I think himself and Downey will work very well together

considering we'll have Earls, Zebo and Dougie to go with them if we can sort our 9 and 10 it'll amount to a very good backline

Hopefully JJ will get some game time in the rabo aswell.
You just worry who the natural successor to ROG is going to be.

I'd agree, Cusack never looked up to it at this level. Gleeson just kept getting injured.

I don't know much about Cusack but Glesson is a sad one for me. In the 09/10 season I think it was the few times I saw him play he looked handy enough. Obviously injuries didn't help but I wonder is he a case of a player staying too long when he wasn't getting any game time.

I would agree with that Fishooks12

Penney will have a say in this, perhaps he will ask to bring in his own man, nothing decided as yet

Interesting that all the nods to the facilities mention UL rather than CIT, and that players like Buckley and Casey have moved to UL rather than CIT. Sign of things to come?

Hopefully videos like this continue to be produced. Definitely a change for the better.

If the two-base problem is holding the team back, I certainly hope so.

I wonder where does he stand on the upcoming Fiscal Treaty? With the right few posts he could swing it one way or the other....:p

"I've had a really good look at Munster's style. It's not a style that I'm a massive fan of but it's been effective for them over the years. They are going through a transition. They've had a core group of players together for about 10-11 years. They've had a really tight group, a passionate group."I hope to be able to add some value around the style of play that they are going to go forward with because results from them more recently haven't been where they would like them to be.

    :)

I reckon it'll be a very intense preseason with a lot of big decisions made. Might try to get as many internationals back ASAP

That sounds ominous, like Munster have finally realised they have the players capable of playing a more exciting brand of rugby, especially with the likes of Laulala still to come in

That and the fact that within 4 years he had totally changed the team bar 1 player & the average age was so low! Plenty of gametime ahead for Kilcoyne I would think & a few others

Genuinely think that Munster are going to turn their game around a lot quicker than people think. If Penney settles in well and gets things clicking, I reckon the inter-pros next season are going to be crackers...

I think there'll be noticable changes in the first few weeks and after that its only a matter of time before the players adjust and fully understand what Penney wants.

It was great to see Penney saying that he isn't a fan of their style of play. Thats one step in the right direction already. No doubt Penney will be on the phone to Axel, giving him instructions and letting Axel know his plans.
