If failing to understand why people are wishing for something which places strain on everyday life and has the potential to claim lives makes me a fool then "GOSH" i must be..
I followed the threads about the jan snow fall with fascination ...this thread however is a lame duck imho .

Crossing the street has the potential to claim lives! Those things you mention are a by-product of snow. Most of us just love the sight of it falling, the sound it makes and it's magical properties (ahem...)Wether we wish for it or not, if it's going to snow, then damn it it's going to snow.

Madness! One of the biggest transformations I have seen!

Went to bed around 11 last night and it felt mild out, 9.2c to be exact.

Now moderate snow, 1.0c DP 0.5c, with about half an inch on the ground! :)

The table has turned this morning from yesterday. Today the west and north west is the milder part of the country. Went to bed last night and it was 1c, this morning a mild 3.7c. Wind seems near enough due north here.

Lashing rain as i type with a very black sky.

Was snowing all the way in from navan on the n3 to sandyford ind est via the M50. alot of slush on the roads, especially as you head further south on the M50. looking out the window now the snow is falling, does not seem heavy but it is constant and the wind is a blowing like a good thing.

Some people like snow. Some people like fast cars. Some people like horror movies. Would be boring if everyone had the same interests don't you think?

    That is a lame comparison.

You can watch eg horror movies in your own home. And no one else is affected.

Snow on the other hand affects many and often very adversely. eg death, illness, hypothermia.. Farmers stand to lose lambs this week also.

It seems as if many here have little thought for others?

After all, if it is snow you love, there are always countries where you can indulge your obsession safely and fully, without harm and suffering to others.

As you can watch horror films in safety.

It was interesting and revealing in the bad winter how folk obsessed with snow until they had had it for eg two days. And felt what it really involved in this land that is not ready for it. They soon changed their tune - especially when the fuel bills came in.

Some of us were cut off for weeks also of course, and endured steadfastly.

No way would we want this to last, or the snow to stay. Not in almost-April.

Many of us also rely on what we can grow, or on income from farming.

Thankfully, no one here is in charge, and snow cannot be ordered.

But dramatic headers like this get boring.

Back maybe later... bitter cold again here

Gosh you are such a fool! If someone has an obsession with planets or astronomy, I don't go on the astronomy forum saying "what's your obsession with planets"...same goes for EVERYTHING. Everyone has their OWN interests, be it pin-up porn or snow...

Another lame comparison; this is a weather forum not a snow mania forum.

This is a snow thread though. In a weather forum. I wouldn't say we are snow addicts just fans of extreme weather.

is it true that personal abuse is not allowed on boards....?

anyway, i will follow this non-event with curiosity just to see how excited you folks get about 9-10 mm of snow

It is true; report the post

The proof of true unbalanced obsession is that rules get ignored.

    So superficial is this post.

Grass feeds critters; snow kills them.

Ever thought of retiring to the North pole?

Whats your problem?? - if you don't like snow/cold why do you live half way up a mountain??. I love this weather since it puts mankind in its place cos it shows that despite all the abuse we throw at her, nature is still in charge. So much of nature has been destroyed or tamed to boredom - thankfully not the weather - yet!!

This is going to be very tough on farmers, particularly as the growth of grass has been so delayed. If this turns out as bad as Weathercheck suggests then there will be huge numbers of livestock lost.

There is a lambing shed opposite us; they spent hours yesterday tryig to bring the ewes in in appalling conditions.

The worst weather for lambing is icy wet as they cannot get started and so many die soon after birth.

And yes, almost no grass growth yet.
