Any truth in the talk that Donal og said his goodbyes in the dressing room after full time? If so, good riddance. His falling out with pa Kelly has cost us dearly imo...

I heard he finished up alright.

.....a number of people in the county feel we will regret losing davy as manager....

If such people do exist, they should be tied to a chair and made watch the scutter that Wexford served up yesterday on repeat for the rest of the week.

To anyone in Clare who doesn't think we have moved forward this year, that match yesterday was a stark reminder of where we were 12 months ago.

    Two things.

    1. Things to build on for next year. We finished with a better team than we started with. Reidy, McInerney must start.

    2. Cathal Malone is not inter county standard, yet we took off Conlon.

Conlon was poor to be fair and has been all summer, but taking him off before Malone was strange alright. I think we need to stop playing Podge at centre forward, I don't see any benefit to playing him there whatsoever.

The first thing that has to happen is those players to take a break from hurling, they might only be ~25 years of age but they have been playing a long time

I can guarantee you that this includes the county chairman and the secretary

I'm still extremely annoyed about Saturday. We were better than Tipp in almost every area of the pitch except for shooting, some of the shots were ridiculous, they were either taking shots that shouldn't have been attempted or they had extremely poor striking, to see inter-county hurlers not able to take points from 60 meters out is terrible, was there any training/practise done? Besides the terrible shooting key players let us down, Tony Kelly is living off past reputation at this stage, the guy doesn't seem to have any confidence, he should not have been on the frees, he had 1 terrible wide in the second half when we were 3 points down, we were on top at that stage and needed everything. McGrath and Podge had a poor display as well, McGrath's goal shouldn't have been over carried, he could have played the ball a couple of times. Finally, Fahy in goal, WTF was he at at the end of the first half? Terrible terrible terrible decision making, he lost his f**king head, he was picking out Tipp players perfectly, did he think he was playing for Whitegate or something?

after the munster final Kelly was well entitled to be on the frees.
Also we matched tipp all over the field but to say we were better than them is an excaduration.
We missed too many chances to win the game and it would have been a well deserved win if we had managed it but we were as good as tipp not better than them

as has every other 25 year old hurler in the country with many of them playing far longer into the season than the clare players in the last five years

    I think Conlon was injured.

Malone is limited for sure, I think we realistically would prefer a better option than him going forward. Maybe Peter Duggan might be that guy if he can play at the standard he showed on Sunday, more consistently.

I think the management next year really need to focus in on the game plan next your and establish what exactly they want to do. And to be honest, it should revolve around getting fast direct ball into the inside forwards. When looking back on the season, we played our best hurling against Kilkenny and the first half against Waterford in the league, where we played direct diagonal ball into the forwards with the likes of Shanagher and McInerney playing really well. It must also be noted Kelly and Galvin didn't feature in those games. I think the management rowed back on that brand of hurling to a degree, to allow Kelly and Galvin to shoot from distance given they have the ability to do this, but our inside forward play really suffered.

I think the management should maybe bring in a coach who can help them here. Watching Cork and Tipp in the last two games and it's obvious they are a level above in their distribution and movement. They are getting scores more easily. I know this is a bit unfair as we are only in year one, but at the same time the likes of McGrath and O'Donnell got very limited good ball inside. Cunningham on Saturday, goals aside where they were handpasses, only got his first ball into space mid way through the second half (and nearly got a goal). The two goals were initially created inside by O'Donnell, but they were high balls in, SOD did brilliantly more than anything.

I'd back the management to learn from this year and bring the team on again. Donal said as much after the match. I don't think we will see a Davy situation where we will see the same mistakes repeated.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a newspaper article from Shane O'Donnell in years to come maybe at retirement, bemoaning the type of service he got and the role he was asked to perform during his time on the Clare team.
Having him run around with his hurley in the air like he's trying to hail a taxi is so frustrating.

Heard a rumour alright. But nothing official yet.

Seemingly the next club championship fixtures are weekend of 12/13 August for the Hurling and 19/20 for the Football.

So the footballers are out of the championship earlier so their championship can restart later, that makes sense. Also, having the matches during the Fleadh isn't great planning.

Where did Bobby Duggan go to? Looked a decent freetaker.

I think he was injured but not sure. I might be old fashioned but if someone isn't good enough to take frees for his club he shouldn't be taking them for his county, free taking is an art form that needs loads of dedicated training not just something you can pick up.

Munster club starts later for football than hurling this year. Don't think we can expect free weekends just because of the Fleadh either at this stage - it's hard enough find weekends to play matches as it is.

Rumour I heard is that the hurlers are heading to Westport for the weekend so aren't being "released" until after that

Suppose they will be at Limerick Races tomorrow evening?

Love the club championships!! Looking forward to them restarting!

    Donal Og is gone.

Probably for the best anyway. I think the management need to find a good coach now to help them with their distribution and movement. We didnt get enough from our forwards this year.

any particular code , the football always generates excellent atmosphere at the games probably down to so many neighbouring teams facing each other and that, i expect big things in the munster club championship this year from whoever wins it out

but the club hurling championship is so competitive its not even funny , kilmaley for example were one of the best teams in the county 2 years ago , relegated last year , i expect another big club to go down this year too

know it hard enough to drum up support for the mens game , but the girls deserve a mention , last week the girls lost out narrowly to galway in the park they put in a serious effort all year and missed out on an all ireland 1/4 final place on scoring diffrence , i would be very disappointed if chloe morey misses out in an all star as she has been sensational all year and the current top scorer in the country

tody the ladies footballers hammered wicklow to put themselves in the all ireland intermediate 1/4 finals , they are good enough to operate at senior level but given fact that munster is a strong hold at the moment they will have to do things the hard way , kerry cork and waterford are all very strong at munster level , we lost the by a point at this level last year so here's hoping we can jump the cue this year

Any word on when the next round of the football championship is on?

Hurling resumes the weekend after this and football the weekend after.

Well done to the minor camogie players last night.
Munster title is no small feat.

Just ask the senior men. :)

Watching the Tipp Galway match summed up what's wrong with Clare hurling, at the end of the match Galway's "go to" player, who had a poor game and missed some very scoreable frees, stood up and scored some great scores, unfortunately Tony Kelly wasn't up to that level this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭funnyname

    Ah now that's totally unfair,
Canning has been out of sorts manys a year. He hasn't been a total superstar since he burst onto the scene. Kelly will rise again

dont think we are that far behind but galway and tipp were not afraid to make any changes to there setups , it seems we were and we paid for it

players playing in there suited positions , no provisions made for players today any player that was having a bad day was taken off ,

its a well known fact that certain players were performing better in challenge games ,training or league games and couldnt get a starting place come championship

tipperary didnt start jason forde today on the basis that he might come good , but we started players like conlon , like podge and even at times kelly when they were not performing , peter duggan was on the verge of leaving the panel as there was nothing more he could do to put his name forward , he got his chance eventually when it was too late in both the cork and tipp games ,

jason mccarthy , jamie shannahan , ian galvin all over looked at different times as well , we have a very strong panel but we are not using it properly ,

you need to go with your form players , you need to take your chances when you get them and if players are not performing you dont play them regardless of who they are
