Again like the hurling last week several fixtures clashing at the same time and this week no double headers , i expect attendances to be small enough for most games as a result

winners of round 2 "winners round" go straight to the 1/4 final stage , while losers in the "losers" round will contest the relegation play/off

teams that qualify for the last 8 this year will be seeded next year as the championship is reduced from 16 teams to 12

    Round 2 ( losers round)

    Kilfenora v St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield @ Corofin, Saturday 2pm
Wolfe Tones v Corofin @ Gurteen, Saturday 2pm
    Ennistymon v St Senan’s Kilkee @ Cooraclare, Sunday 12pm
    St Breckan’s v St Joseph’s Miltown @ Ennistymon, Sunday 1.30pm

    Round 2 (Winners round )

Éire Óg v Cratloe @ Shannon, Saturday 1pm
    Lissycasey v Clondegad @ Cooraclare, Saturday 3pm
    O’Curry’s v Kilmurry Ibrickane @ Doonbeg, Saturday 4.30pm
    Doonbeg v Cooraclare @ Quilty, Saturday 7pm

    intermediate championship (Round 2 )

    Group 1
    Liscannor v Clarecastle @ Corofin, Saturday 3.30pm
    Kilmihil v Kildysart @ Kilrush, Saturday 6.30pm

    Group 2
Coolmeen v Kilrush Shamrocks @ Labasheeda, Saturday 2pm
Meelick v Shannon Gaels @ Shannon, Saturday 5.30pm

results of the 6 senior championship games played today , lissycasey and clondegad drew after extra time , cooraclare survived a late doonbeg fight back to book a place in the last 8, they will be joined by cratloe, and kilmurry ibrickane after both had easy wins over eire og and o 'currys

squeeky bum time for kilfenora and wolfe tones as both enter the relegation playoff after defeats to D/Barefield and Corofin

Will the next round of the football be on in 2 weeks time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,055 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Does anyone know what the quality of the Clondegad Lissycasey game was like?

Sounds like it was good but just 4 points in extra time doesn't sound hectic.

I wasn't at it, but I heard Lissycasey kicked it away with too many wides. Seemingly Tony Kelly played well in the full forward line for Clondegad. I suppose this replay will upset things a bit now. Will be interesting to see what happens this evening in Clareabbey at the meeting.

Strange to see Clarecastle go back so far, they didn't have a bad year last year. They have been competitive underage, very strong hurling community. Then it goes to show like with Kilmaley last year, you can have young talent coming through, doesn't always translate to senior straight away.

I have not seen the magpies but there is a suggestion that their fitness regime may not be all that it should be.

physical fitness has to be a bottom line for teams that want to play senior hurling

times to be confirmed for this weeks hurling fixtures , no word as yet on when the replayed round 2 game is fixed for , i imagine the ballyea game this week will dictate clondegads availability

I thought repeat pairings weren't allowed? Didn't Eire Og and Corofin play in the first round.

I thought repeat pairings weren't allowed? Didn't Eire Og and Corofin play in the first round.

it should never have happened but the excuse the county board were using last night was that there were 3 possible repeat fixtures and used the term "where possible" as to avoid the situation

o'currys management were furious as they should have been automaticly paired against corofin and eire og v miltown , as the were the last 4 teams to be drawn ,county board didnt cop this until the draw was made , there take on it was the draw is made now we cant go back on it
    ,
the winners and losers from the previous round had been kept apart but not the teams who previously played each other ,

ballyea scrape past the mills in newmarket , cratloe have too much for the parish , two more 1/4 final places to be sorted out today , relegation playoff kicking off now also

The Mills played well..shame the couldnt equalise...
Deasy and Tony Kelly the difference.

tulla and clooney/quin continue there good runs in the championship with contrasting wins to gain the final 1/4 final places . tulla hung on in the end while another superb performance from peter duggen has put clooney/quin into the last 8

clarecastle showed why they are probably favorites for the drop , another huge defeat today , this time to crusheen who are now safe , hard to see the magpies staying up now ,

same as two weeks ago for ballyea , far too relent this year for scores of them two , they will struggle to go any further , shame the mills couldnt pull off the shock , would have marked huge progress for them to get to the last 8

wolfe tones safe , last years semi finalists feakle without a championship win this year , will be a very nervy encounter with the magpies in a few weeks time

Reports of an appeal gone gone in against last week's football draw due to repeat pairings. I agree there shouldn't have been repeat pairings but don't know the precise ruling. If county board have broken a rule with the draw its a farce. 5 days out and there may have to be a new draw.

Bit of a farce alright, but would you not agree that it shows an awful sign of weakness from whoever lodged the appeal?

Clare FM are reporting that it is O Currys. Massive sign of weakness as they are playing Miltown a team they haven't played already. If they draw them again you would imagine Miltown have a big physchological advantage.

They felt they should have been drawn against corofin so corofin won't be short of motivation either if they are paired in the new draw.

Yes and no. From outsiders looking it it might be perceived as that. However, I'd say fair play to them for putting the spotlight on the executive of Clare Gaa for just one of a number of incidents that has happened this year and that should not be allowed or tolerated within a voluntary run sports body not to talk about a sports body that is meant to be administered by full time paid personal.

You can bet your bottom dollar if they hadn't drawn Miltown they wouldn't have lodged an appeal.

I agree 100%! It's the type of situation whereby a club will do what suits them best and you couldn't blame them. However, the point stands - it's no harm highlight one of the mess ups the county board have made this year irrespective of the motives.

The problem ocurrys have is . There were 4 teams left in the draw. Milltown and corofin in one pot and themselves and Eire og in the other

Because corofin had played Eire og earlier in the championship they can't meet again which only left one outcome and that's corofin v curry s Milltown v Eire og

Nobody at the time spotted the mistake until it was too late . The fixtures should be changed around .

The real joke here is the fixtures are down for the weekend . The complaints went in last Tuesday and its only been delt with now

Most of the weekends matches went as expected. Cratloe and Clooney won as expected. The Mills put it up to Ballyea, who seem to be even more dependent on Kelly and Deasy than they were last year. Tulla winning was a bit of a shock. IK have a way better team on paper but they have failed to make any great impact at senior level now since they came together (bar the first coupe of years) that you'd wonder what the problem is there. Great win all the same for Tulla who are in serious bonus territory now.

Crusheen won well as expected. Feakle faded very badly against Shannon after been 3 points up 4 minutes into the second half. Shannon scored something like 9 points without reply then. I'd still fancy Feakle to stay up but it will make for an exciting relegation final which I presume will be on sat/sun week.

Why is taking so long for county board to run off junior football championship??Played first group games mid July and nothing until this weekend which is a disgrace. Final wont played til October/November at this stage. CB has no regard for club footballers yet again!

    Bridge v cratloe :D
    Ballyea v Newmarket
    Clonlara v Tulla
    Eire og v Clooney Quin

That first tie should be very good. Clonlara should come through tulla and the other two are even enough.
