The problem with the season ticket for Clare people is that the hurlers haven't played many matches and the footballers could be playing anywhere coupled with the fact that there never seems to be an issue getting Clare tickets there isn't much of an incentive to get them. A few years ago there was a Debenture card where if you paid a certain amount of money you got access to any match being played in a Clare venue, it was a great ticket and incentive people to go to matches, the problem now is that anyone selling these tickets is more interested in making sure they make money than anything else so they price the tickets according to the value of the matches, for example it's €10 into a game and if there's 15 weekends then the ticket would be priced at €300, I think a nominal charge of €100 for such a ticket would have a great take up rate and wouldn't impact the coffers too much (except that the amount of cash being taken at the gates which means more money has to go through the books), maybe also give the people with a ticket access to buy championship tickets, but this is probably beyond our county board.

pat o connor said in an interview shortly after the munster final that the players spoke about the lack of support during the warm up , when you think about it it must have been soul destroying for them , training all year putting a regular life on the the line run out on one of the biggest days of the year to see almost 40000 cork supporters . hopefully the renewal of the tipp clare darby will bring extra support to cork on saturday

you are right though , i have a season ticket for both codes , it dose offer value for the league but championship is no great benefit ,especially football , i feel the county board are loseing out big time in not promoting a club clare ticket or a scheme like you said that would cover both codes or one code for club and inter county with the proceeds going back into the clubs , even if they do they will just make it too expensive to be popular

at the end of the day though its up to the individual to support the team and while yes it is getting expensive especially for families, however there are plenty who can afford the trip but too lazy mainly lads that are active club players and members

Niall O'Connor - son of Clare joint-manager Gerry O'Connor - has been named as the person at the centre of the sliotar controversy by the Clare Champion newspaper.

    Awkward alert!

Is he part of the management team?

think he was one of the hurley carriers so he would have been allowed to position himself somewhere along the sideline or the back of the goal , it would seem he done it without orders lets say.....i imagine there was some choice words spoke in the o'connor household last monday :D

Wouldn't be so sure it was done without orders, it has a certain member of the management setup's hand prints all over it.

And watching the recording, whoever was recording it knew exactly what was about to happen, the camera followed him all the way from the far sideline.

Was it spitefulness on the part of Pat Fitzgerald, for not ordering more tickets for the Cork game. Hard to fathom it. Christ, no one travelled from Clare. We used to have the best supporters in the country.

Christ, no one travelled from Clare. We used to have the best supporters in the country.

I remember in 1995, how well Clarecastle looked. It had more flags up then than in all the county now.

Granted, that was such a breakthrough year but even now, when we get in to August and are still hurling, you wouldn't be blinded with the colour.

That being said, I think periods where we had "the best supporters in the country, outside of the mid/late 90's was just 2 Sundays in 2013.

I wouldn't underestimate Pat Fitz's spitefulness, the minor management team had to go into Tommy O'Donnell's to get tops for the minor final, the under 21 management weren't getting anything until Colin Lynch refused to go out without a Clare top. Pat Fitz will do anything to feather his own nest and to make sure that whatever he wants gets through.

Saying all that, I would say that the core Clare supporters would be ~13k, this was the crowd at the 95 Final and that's the crowd that tends to go to matches, the difference between the 13k and the people that travelled could be put down to the mismanagement of the Clare County Board in my opinion.

Every telephone poll had Clare colours on it, fertiliser bags were being stapled to polls and everything, it was an embarrassment to have a poll on your land that didn't have colours on it, Clarecastle looked great at Madden's Terrace but that was cause Dalo and Sparrow were from there.

We used to have the best supporters in the country.

When things were going well. The support for the team at the Munster Final 2 weeks ago was a complete embarrassment. Shocking.

Clare will name their team tonight. David McInerney is not looking likely according to Clare FM.

Hard to see us doing it to be honest.

McInerney is out and McGrath is a doubt. I've us backed to be leading at half time and to win 8/1

Wow - you're confident! You really think they'll win?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,371 ✭✭✭letowski

We could do it, we have a lot of quality in the squad to cause an upset. But its going to take a vast improvement and a performance greatly better than anything we have given in the last 3 and a half years in championship hurling.

There should be some kick in the team though, first time we have played KK or Tipp since about 2011 in the summer. They should be chomping at the bit.

David Mc is a huge loss though, it's a big ask probably for Dillon (or O'Connor) to hold Callinan somewhat.

    Probably blind faith BUT....

Our best performances for the last few years have been against Kilkenny and Tipp, Tony Kelly really hasn't performed yet and as badly as we played in the Munster final we hit the cross bar twice, missed a penalty and missed 10 score-able opportunities.

Depending on the team that's announced tonight I'm going to back us to win by either 3 or 5 points in the Pool

There's no doubt they are capable. If they pointed half the 15 wides in the Munster final we'd be planning for a semi-final now. Even after playing poorly they we're still only 2 points down in the 69th minute of the Munster final, so its very possible but they need a massive performance from everyone and need to get quality ball into the forwards.

Between the stupid tactics for the Cork puck out and yerman throwing the balls into the stand I think the occasion got to the management a bit, this shouldn't be an issue for Saturday, I hope.

Im ok with the team. With regards to some of the decisions, you can see the managements intentions.

Dillon in for McInerney is obviously enforced unfortunately. Dillon will probably go on Callinan. I like Cian, he is a good hurler its just he is not a naturally good defender. But he will be highly motivated to keep his place.

Cunningham in for Shanagher is a clear change in tac. It removes the aerial outlet Shanagher gives. Hammy is in their becuase Hamill would be more comfortable on a more physical player, as he dealt with Shanagher fairly well earlier in the year. Hamill wouldnt have great pace though which is where Clare and Hammy will look to get at. But the ball in has to be good, not the type of rubbish a forthnight ago.

Which is also why Shanahan is in becuase of his distribution. He went very bad at wing back in the first league game and struggled with his lack of pace. But Tipp wouldnt have a huge amount of pace on that line so maybe he goes ok.

Podge is lucky to start again. He is probably in becuse the management might feel his movement will trouble r. maher but he isnt playing well.

All and all we can make a game of it if we cut down on the stupid decision making and get good ball to our forwards. But i think we will struggle to keep to a manageable score.

This could be a shoot out, we really need Podge and Tony to perform on Saturday to have a chance and I think they are big game players

Podge played great stuff for us in the league, it's disappointing to see he hasn't brought it into the summer. I was most looking forward to seeing him back fully with Clare this championship. I hope it goes well for him tomorrow, he has the ability. I think he hit 5 points against Tipp in the spring.

First time Clare have played the reigning all ireland champs since winning it in 2013, and indeed since being bet comfortably by Tipp in 2011.

Interesting in that respect, I think Tipp will win with a bit to spare to be honest.

Podge was great in teh league and I had him backed for MotM against Limerick, broken foot didn't help. I'm happy with the changes, Clare by 5

Clare need to take the game to Tipperary. That means bettering Tipp's workrate and imposing themselves physically on their marker. Tipp's half back line just cannot be allowed to run the show on Saturday and be allowed get good ball inside. If they do we can forget about it. Podge and Conlon did alot of damage on Kennedy and Maher in the league, they need to be taking on their men again. There has to be some bite in this Clare team. They have to get on top in mdfield, and hassle and harry when they don't have the ball. I don't want to see the management incorporate the same tactics as the last day and withdraw and let Tipp hurl as they like. They have to just go for it, if they are not good enough so be it, but I don't want to come out of PUC with loads more what ifs.
