Thought I'd start this thread as haven't found one of the same.

So, 2010.. new decade... new beginnings? With the aim of the League being to get back into Division 1, could Clare also achieve success in Munster this year?

As well as a proposed friendly versus Cork, Ger O'Loughlin has a good load of matches to blood players from U-21's into the senior game. With the opponents in the League not posing a major threat some would argue Clare wont get as much preparation as Div 1 teams, but maybe it will give them an opportunity to focus on their strength and conditioning?

So, Clare face Waterford on Sunday at 2pm in Ballyduff Upper.. I think they should win against this weakened Waterford side, but I think it will be close tbh. But could Waterford topple us in the pre season tournament?

Shooting and puck outs aside Clare were by the far the better team today. The Cork crowd around me were enthralled by some of the skill and stick work by Clare today.
We died on our feet, can't complain.
I'd forgotten however about what a shower of cxxxx the Tipps fans are.

Just back. Gutted to be out. Fair play to the lads, they did fight hard but ultimately short again.

Basically looking around social media, its puckouts, wides, puckout, wides, puckout, wides etc, etc, etc. In fairness these issues were at the center of our downfall today.

Looking back realistically, the half forward line was very poor today. Conlon getting the hook before half time really showed this, but Collins and Malone were not much better than him and we couldn't win any ball in the first half. This off course was compounded before half time as Fahy tried to change up the strategy and go shorter, leading to disastrous consequences, he hit the ball straight to Tipp players at least 3 times before half time that were put back straight over the bar.

Duggan made a massive difference in the second half and really carried the game to Tipp. He has had many chances for Clare but this was definitely his best performance and good on him, hopefully he will be back next year. But I think the management need to seriously look at this area. Malone and Podge should have been taken off sooner but the replacements were not there. The management need to look at the center forward position going forward now with Podge, I'm just not sure going with a player as small as Podge is going to work at this level. Maybe it will I don't know, but it needs to be questioned. Playing himself, Kelly and Galvin at the heart of the team has no physicality and tenacity you need from players to grab the upper hand and go through a dominant period. I think Clare really need a physical player beside Galvin.

At the end of the day if a Clare supporter was told before the championship that O'Brien, McInerney, Galvin, Kelly, Podge, Conlon and McGrath were going to be injured or out of form, we would have felt we wouldn't really have a proper chance of doing something. I don't hold the management too much to blame today, they let the lads go out there to play to their strength, but the players just haven't delivered this year. The management next year have to really focus the players, particularly lads like Fitzgearld, Kelly, Galvin and Conlon, on exactly what role the should be playing in the team. The deciesion making of the Clare team has been nothing short of absolutely clueless. And I would expect to see improvement in the gameplan from the management in this regard next year.

But that's it for another year again. Just to finish, fair play to Conor Cleary too had his finest hour in a Clare shirt and should be proud of his performance.

In Dublin later so one of the "few" not going to game. Unfortunately, cannot see how Clare might win this. Think it would take either a performance that would be completely out of the blue or an utter collapse by Tipp. Either could happen but I doubt it unfortunately.

been flat to the mat latley hardly seen this page in weeks but thinking to the game today i wouldnt be so confidant , if tipp are still in a bad place well then yes clare will probably win ,

if tipp show the form of last years championship , this years league ,then we are in trouble ....still not worried though ...:eek:

Clare need to take the game to Tipperary. That means bettering Tipp's workrate and imposing themselves physically on their marker. Tipp's half back line just cannot be allowed to run the show on Saturday and be allowed get good ball inside. If they do we can forget about it. Podge and Conlon did alot of damage on Kennedy and Maher in the league, they need to be taking on their men again. There has to be some bite in this Clare team. They have to get on top in mdfield, and hassle and harry when they don't have the ball. I don't want to see the management incorporate the same tactics as the last day and withdraw and let Tipp hurl as they like. They have to just go for it, if they are not good enough so be it, but I don't want to come out of PUC with loads more what ifs.

Podge was great in teh league and I had him backed for MotM against Limerick, broken foot didn't help. I'm happy with the changes, Clare by 5

First time Clare have played the reigning all ireland champs since winning it in 2013, and indeed since being bet comfortably by Tipp in 2011.

Interesting in that respect, I think Tipp will win with a bit to spare to be honest.

Podge played great stuff for us in the league, it's disappointing to see he hasn't brought it into the summer. I was most looking forward to seeing him back fully with Clare this championship. I hope it goes well for him tomorrow, he has the ability. I think he hit 5 points against Tipp in the spring.

Im ok with the team. With regards to some of the decisions, you can see the managements intentions.

Dillon in for McInerney is obviously enforced unfortunately. Dillon will probably go on Callinan. I like Cian, he is a good hurler its just he is not a naturally good defender. But he will be highly motivated to keep his place.

Cunningham in for Shanagher is a clear change in tac. It removes the aerial outlet Shanagher gives. Hammy is in their becuase Hamill would be more comfortable on a more physical player, as he dealt with Shanagher fairly well earlier in the year. Hamill wouldnt have great pace though which is where Clare and Hammy will look to get at. But the ball in has to be good, not the type of rubbish a forthnight ago.

Which is also why Shanahan is in becuase of his distribution. He went very bad at wing back in the first league game and struggled with his lack of pace. But Tipp wouldnt have a huge amount of pace on that line so maybe he goes ok.

Podge is lucky to start again. He is probably in becuse the management might feel his movement will trouble r. maher but he isnt playing well.

All and all we can make a game of it if we cut down on the stupid decision making and get good ball to our forwards. But i think we will struggle to keep to a manageable score.

Between the stupid tactics for the Cork puck out and yerman throwing the balls into the stand I think the occasion got to the management a bit, this shouldn't be an issue for Saturday, I hope.

There's no doubt they are capable. If they pointed half the 15 wides in the Munster final we'd be planning for a semi-final now. Even after playing poorly they we're still only 2 points down in the 69th minute of the Munster final, so its very possible but they need a massive performance from everyone and need to get quality ball into the forwards.

Probably blind faith BUT....

Our best performances for the last few years have been against Kilkenny and Tipp, Tony Kelly really hasn't performed yet and as badly as we played in the Munster final we hit the cross bar twice, missed a penalty and missed 10 score-able opportunities.

Depending on the team that's announced tonight I'm going to back us to win by either 3 or 5 points in the Pool

We could do it, we have a lot of quality in the squad to cause an upset. But its going to take a vast improvement and a performance greatly better than anything we have given in the last 3 and a half years in championship hurling.

There should be some kick in the team though, first time we have played KK or Tipp since about 2011 in the summer. They should be chomping at the bit.

David Mc is a huge loss though, it's a big ask probably for Dillon (or O'Connor) to hold Callinan somewhat.
