Come on Shane - top 3 now - equal with the cheat.

Playing amazing stuff last 9 holes. Sheffler playing to his absolute best as world number 1 makes Lowrys performance look a little poorer.

V good shape with Augusta on the way.

What will this do for his rankings- get him in to the restricted events?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,124 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Would've taken 3rd before the week, so excellent week in that way. Just a pity he didn't keep it together on front 9 today to keep it a bit tighter, although he wasn't getting to -15

Great payday for him $1.4 million.

I think it’s $1.4 million. He was 3rd on his own. Would have been $1.8 million if Clark hadn’t holed that long putt on the 18th.

What’s probably more important to Shane than the prize money is that it gets him back up both the FedEx Cup and World rankings. Not quite sure what he needs in terms of FedEx Cup rankings, but the 25.8 world ranking points he’ll get for finishing solo 3rd will move him into the mid 30s in the World Rankings and close to the top 30 needed for the Signature Events.

Great couple of weeks, definitely good signs. He's always been streaky enough in the past and often gets a chunk of good results together so the timing is good ahead of the Masters

He means what comes out of his mouth when hits a bad shot

THIS. It was exactly the same last week.

    That's what separates the elites.

Elite chipping when the pressure is really on.

It's why Scheffler, Matsuyama and even Garcia were able to win a tournament like The Masters.

And just like Shane none of them are good putters.

    Good finish to round.

    Didn’t seem to hole much

Having been over par through the front nine a -1 opening round was decent enough.

early in round but signs not good

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,396 ✭✭✭Trampas

Putter seems cold. I’d nearly prefer him to miss the cut than just plodding around the back of the field. Rest might be better for him. Spend an extra 2 days at home before heading to Singapore which seems crazy decision now

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

He just can't do it, always falters when you think he's going to put a consistent good run of form together.

  • Registered Users Posts: 669 ✭✭✭bamayang

Strange comments here, he’s 5/6 shots back from the main pack (excluding the one bolter) on a pretty tough track, when the putter is cold. I would call that a good outcome

do people expect him to be top 3 every single week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭dublin49

both days has finished well so that augurs well,he missed a 3 footer for bogey early and I thought he might drop away but fair play hung in and good finish.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

No, and golf is a tough sport mentally at professional level, but there is an ongoing inconsistency in his game. Thankfully he has done enough today to make the cut.

  • Registered Users Posts: 669 ✭✭✭bamayang

Great finishing round. In good form the last month

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭dublin49

100% ,should earn another circa 300K today bringing him over 2 mill in 3 weeks, sensational from where he was, hopefully he can now play where he wants and copperfasten his position at the top end of tour.Maybe falling out of the golden circle will give a wake up call that will work to his advantage longer term.
