I might join yee for some of this. I'm used to doing long runs on Sunday evenings now though, seems to work much better for me.

I used to always run in the evening until the penny dropped that most races are in the morning :o

6 miles @ 9'27 pace. Legs and body felt wrecked to start with, but thankfullly felt much better by the end. I ended up having to work last night and only got about 4hrs sleep which is not ideal after a marathon I guess very tired now. Dinner and an early night tonight.

Is that Paddy? If so, I was shocked to see running towards me round mile 15ish? Sorry to hear what happened, not good enough!!

Yeah I'll be pacing 1'50 in the half and 4hrs in the full, maybe see you there?

Go back late from work tonight and was starving so Didn't bother with the planned 8. TBH the thighs are still wrecked so I could only manage a recovery pace anyway.

    4.5 miles@ 9'20 pace.

I was planning to run the 2 mile race in Tallaght tomorrow in place of the planned speed session. I'll play it by ear, probably will only decide after a few easy miles after work.

I Realised today that this race wasn't on until 8.30pm and given that I finished work at 5.30 I didn't want to have to hang around for 3 hours so just went out for a run inTymon Instead. I wore the compression shorts and socks last night and the legs felt back to about 90% so I was able to push the speed and distance a little moe than in the last few days.

Ended up clearing 10.1 miles @8'38 pace.

I'll probably getted my scheduled speed session (6 x 1k) in tomorrow night.

This months mileage is a little disappinting. was hoping to get close to 300 miles but I missed about 5 runs and probably 50 miles with the chest infection. Better to get it then than before Berlin though, so I shouldn't complain.

Congratulations on Longford, as much for the time as for the discipline. You're starting to make it look easy. Really curious now to see how you get on in Berlin.

I've been wearing the compression shorts since Yesterday and I have to say they seem to do a great job. So much so that the legs were pretty much 100% so I went ahead with the VO2 max session this evening.

    9.5 miles including 5 x 1k @ 5k pace (3:51, 3:49, 3:46, 3:53, 3:47) recoveries were 2 minutes between reps.

These felt realtively easy and I didn't have to push too hard. I did these on the 1kish loop down in Marlay and the garmin measured the same loop at anywhere between 0.61 and 0.64 miles which goes to show you should never trust the thing 100% for pace.

Great job in Longford. Would love to be able to do that in a race never mind a training run. How did you find using the straw? Think I'll adopt the straw strategy in Berlin too but a bit worried about breathing using a straw while running. Must try practice it on Sunday.

Only catching up on your Longford run properly now. Seriously well done - that was a brilliant marathon never mind a training run! If that didn't deserve a bottle of wine and a bag of toffee crisp sweets then I give up..;)

8 miles recovery pace tonight (8'52). All the miles were 9 min+ except one where I met a clubmate doing his recovery run. I tagged along and had a chat then the Garmin Bleeped a 7'50 mile so I bid him adieu and headed back on my own. He is a sub 2'50 marathon runner, can't wait to have that recovery pace.

This is the last week before Taper, getting the miles in has been really tough this week as work has been hectic. Stil determined to get 70 done for the week however. That will now mean 12 tomorrow evening after work and 20 on sunday. Glad that sundays grup run will be at a nice easy pace.

Met up with Pistol, Digger, MrSlow and a friend of his this morning in the park. This was a real 'just get it done' run. The legs have been wrecked all week and was just looking forward to getting the las 20 miler in before Berlin. The pace started very slow (close to 10 min/mile) but picked up as we went along. The chat and the Craic was good. I was really glad of the company as the legs were crying out all the way round and without company I am not sure I would have got this run done on my own. Some of the lads puched on with 3 miles to go, hitting 7'30 pace. Initially I moved to go with them but quickly thought that I have nothing to gain and hung back with Pistol, running 8'30s home. Glad to get theis run over. Next week sees a frop in mileage through the midweek which I'm looking forward to. I wouldn't call it taper though as next weekend will be very tough (10k race on saturday and 17 miles on Sunday).

This weeks mileage reduction afforded me a rare rest day yesterday :D

Todays session was a realtively easy VO2 max session on paper. 5 x600m. The conditions made it tough though as I did the reps along the canal and the first two were straight into the teeth of todays Gale force wind and I really struggled to keep pace. The last 3 were downwind and I barely broke a sweat. Recoveries were a 90 second jog. Paces for the reps were: 6'15, 6'17, 6'06, 6'04, 6'03 (5k pace should be 6'10ish)

This is the last long midweek run in the programme so goal is getting really close. Lovely weather this evening  nice to see we are still getting a bit of summer ;). It was getting pretty dark at the end of this, so I am getting these midweek MLR's finished at the right time.

Decided to run this one at pacing pace for the Dublin half in 10 days (1'50) I followed 6 miles of DCM (miles 13-19) and then turned around and ran them back uphill and into the teeth of the wind with sheet rain in my face. Hands were froze off me by the end, will have to break out the penies gloves again soon.

It that a posh name for a condom? Are you onto a sure thing after the Half? :D

The winds and rain over the last couple of days was savage. I'm familiar with the wind channelling down the canal straights too. At lunchtimes, I was the opposite, I'd have the wind behind me feeling great, then turn around to head back only to be hit with the head on winds.

The plan says 2 short recovery runs before saturday's race and I am not one to argue with that as I love running at recovery pace. Bumped into some of the clubmates after a mile tonight and that really helped pass the time.

5 miles @ 9'17 pace. Even slower than last night, just to make sure the legs are fresh for tomorrow. Tomorrow the plan is to run 1.2 miles more than this evening 6 minutes faster. Almost seems unbelievable.

Saturday 10th sept- Blessington lakes 10k
The dream for this was to break 40 minutes, but that said I wasn't overly worried about it. I knew the course wasn't easy and the wind on the morning meant it was going to be hard. Still though, Met Ral3 before the off and he had a similar goal so headed oout with him. The first 3k came in just under goal pace, howver I started struggling a bit at this stage and a glance at the garmin at 3.5k confirmed the pace had dropped to about 4'10/km. For some reason I completely switched off at this point, knowing the hill was still to come I decided that sub 40 was gone and slowed down. Went round the rest of the course at around 10 mile pace for 41'37. I am very disappointed at myself for 'doing a brian' on this one. Ral3 came home in 40'2x, so I think I could have ta least set a PB if I had dug deep (PB is 40'44). The only positive news is that I felt at the finish that I could have held the pace for at least 10 miles and also The lead woman came in a few minutes behind me, so fo the first time in my running career I didn't get 'chicked' :D

9.3 miles total for the day

    Sunday 11th September
LSR with the group in the park. Legs feel wrecked. This wasn't pretty but I got through it.
