41 37 is still quiet a good time on that course and the weather yesterday so if you're wacking yourself on the head, stop it.

How long was it a goal race as the 'giving up' at 3.5k would be odd for you if it was a real goal race?

It wasn't really a goal race, just a slave to the training programme (as you know) and it had a 8-10k race in it this weekend.

Not beating myself up at all to be honest. Still giving the 3'10 a bash. Longford was the big confidence booster which has convinced me that is on (thank god I did Longford).

yesterday was not a good day to race, very humid and windy. Good time under those conditions even if you didnt empty the tank

I had a dry throat on saturday night but thought nothing of it, it got worse by sunday night, so much that I didn't sleep much. Got up on monday with a chesty cough, coughing up plegm and generally feeling awful  Went straight to the GP who immediately diagnosed another chest infection . She gave me a prescription with order to hold off until wednesday. Appaprently if it was still as bad on wednesday it is a bacterial infection and needs anitib's. If it's better by wednesday then it was viral....
Felt prett cr*p the rest of the day but plenty of lemsip and a good night's sleep and I pretty much feel better today, not quite 100% but 95%. Taper madness panic averted :D

This weeks plan involves some very short runs so I did one of them tonight just to test things and all systems go!!

    4 miles
@ 8'27 pace. HR is low 130's (excet for the firts mile spike) which is great for that pace.

Keep dosing yourself with lemsip etc as you want to kill it this week. Its your second round of this in a month so be smart.

I took another day off yesterday as the cold went right into the top of my head and I had a runny nose and sneezing all day.

Felt much better today but didn't want to push the body to the planned 3 x 1 mile VO2 max session. Instead I met up with woddle at the club after a 4.8 mile warm up (8'30 Pace) and did 10 x 400m at his goal 5k pace. The first 9 were all 90-95 seconds which were pretty comfortable. Took a little extra break at that stage and we hammered out the last one a bit quicker. It was only on the warm down laps that I copped it was 75 seconds (though it was 85 ).

9 miles in total for the day

Saturday 13.1 miles in 1'49'47 (1'50 pacing at the Dublin half)
Paced this one with Jackyback and Macanri and had great fun all the way round. We had a lovely big crowd with us for most of the run. The race was fine except for congestion/walkers in the first mile. The bit up chesterfield was also very tight and hard to pas slower runners. By mile 6 we were only a few seconds up so put in a little bit of a spurt back down chesterfield to pick up a few seconds. By mile 11 we were 30 seconds up so we sent on most of the group and hung back with the strugglers. With a mile to go I looked back and asked behind if anyone was following us. A girl about 20 yeards back put up her had so I went back to help as she was having a tough time and tried to talk her up the hill at acres rd. She got to the top only a few yards back so I was pleased but 10 seconds later I looked back again and she was 'doing a meno' i.e. puking her guts out. I fely like going back to give her a few tips on ouking but time was tight so I had to push on :pac: Managed to get in with the two lads with just over 1o seconds to spare. Was great getting loads of thanks from runners in the finishing chute.

    Today
    5 Miles easy/recovery (8'40 pace).

Legs a touch heavy. P&D taper really leaves it to the last minute. Hoping the massage on Wedensday has the legs raring to go next week.

Weekly total 5 Runs 37.1 miles

A few tips yeah? As she was bending over I'd say you wanted to give her something alright ;)

Sitting in work today and checking the logisitics of things like getting from the Airport to the hotel etc and the nerves have started to kick in for the first time.

I still have a bit of Phlegm around the mouth/throat from last weeks cold which is annoying me a little.

My last few short races (Midlands Half and Blessington 10k) didn't go according to plan but the training run I did in Longford Marathon has given me a fair bit of confidence. I know the distance is not the issue and i felt dead strong after 20 miles and after running 10 @ PMP over a bumpy course.

I keep telling myself I am now a long course specialist (If I break 3'10 it will be a mcmillan PB not counting my times below 400m- I guess I am builts for sprints and Ultras :pac:)

Focus on the positives as much as possible ! I can get caught up in negatives before a race and it expends alot of unnecessary energy .
Hope you feel relaxed on the day to soak up the experience and the atmosphere before/during/after the race :)

7.2 miles @ 8'14 pace. I think I was supposed to do a few strides but I met a few club guys after 3 and tagged along with them over grass and trails. Legs feeling pretty good and the plegminess () clears up once I get running.

A few PMP miles tomorrow night and then just a few short jogs before sunday

Remember, if you puke they will probably try to fine you for littering :)

Positive thoughts only meno. Get over there and spank that course. Sub 3:10 definitely in you.

    Good luck, enjoy the race.

6 miles tonight @ 7'56 av, including 2 @ pmp (7'15, 7'08). I'd be lying if I said that PMP miles were dead easy but the wind was blowing fierce tonight. This was supposed to be a 7 mile total run but I was running late for a pre marathon massage so I had to cut the warm down a mile short.

Legs were less knotted up than they were a month ago or at least the massage didn't hurt as much :p

Great stuff, work is done now! You just need to turn up next Sunday and reap the reward :) Best of luck if I don't bump into you beforehand....

    Best of luck too Opus.
I saw your post in the event thread. Myself and Brian will definitely be having a beer near the Brandenburg gate directly after the race so I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll either be wearing my boards singlet or the red cork marathon top.

I've no idea how I'll get on to be honest, I've done zero shorter training but that's never stopped me giving it a lash before ;) Will give it a go and see what happens....No matter what, I'll be disappointed if it's not another PB.

Good luck on Sunday boss. Don't doubt yourself and you'll be fine as you've done the training required.
