Marvel Versus Capcom on the DC is worth about €25-€30. I think it's the PS2 version that's pretty rare?

Just got SNK v Capcom and Magical Drop complete in box for the NGP. Didn't even know Magical Drop had been released in PAL land. Only one I've seen on ebay since I've started looking for NGP stuff!

You got Magical Drop? You asshole! :'(

Marvel vs. Capcom on Xbox was the expensive game because it was the only way to play the game online. However since the XBLA version was released it's not worth much at all anymore.

Yeah wasn't too expensive either! £22. SNK V Capcom was only £17.

The guy had a load of stuff. Wanted The Last Blade too but was outbid. Only went for around £32 in the end. Which wasn't bad at all..but when combined with the other two, really starts to add up.

Even the PS2 version was commanding $250 used before it got its PSN/XBLA release, you know, from the fact those version got a limited run because they came out when Capcom was about to lose the Marvel license, Stateside, obviously. Another thing, Rage charging 40 for PS1 version of MvC is ****ing silly money. It's a gimped out version as well.

The one month I can't look for games on ebay :( Have never seen a magical drop PAL for sale and the only other ones are outrageously priced japanese ones.

Hehe ah sure no way to know. NGPC is a hot topic atm so staying clear. Was going to bid on Crush Roller as it looks like a fun variant on PacMan but didn't in the end, I see it didn't sell either.

Seems nobody is really bidding on neo geo pocket stuff. He has a load of megadrive game sup now, mostly imports.

If it's dead then you need to get it phoenixed.

If it works, either change the battery or just play it till it dies - then get it phoenixed :)

Either way, with phoenixing it'll never be beyond repair. So you can rest easy in that regard.

I seriously doubt it. It's a legendary Saturn shmup, people will always want the original. Lots of other shmups are available to play in other formats but the original is still worth money.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,276 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yeah it's not going to happen. People only wanted the console versions of MvsC2 because it was the only way to play them online, when a better cheaper alternative appeared they dropped it. Radiant Silvergun still has it's mystic. Also if Treasure convert the arcade game with out the Saturns extras then the price isn't going to drop either.

I really want a NGPC, but whats holding me back is that I would end up spending quite a bit on the games of course, and I think to myself "Wouldn't I be better to buy AES stuff instead for my SNK fix?"

I'll be putting a lot of my retro collecting on hold now until next year as there are some great contemporary games due out over the forthcoming Christmas build up - DoDonPachi Ressurection and King of Fighters XIII in October, Star Fox out next week, Xenoblade Chronicles is out now and not to mention Zelda and the new Marios on 3DS... won't have much coin left for retro goodness I don't think.

Silvergun has gone down a bit in anticipation of the XBLA release. Not by a huge amount though, maybe 10-15%. However, my most wanted game ever - Garou Mark of the Wolves on AES, has seemingly gone up in price since its XBLA port.... I could have had a copy of it for as little as €225 two years ago, now its going for over €150 more!

    *grumbles*

I've a feeling it might drop in price, Radiant Silvergun that is. Sure, the game has mystique, but it's not a rare title, just prized. According to material released regarding the XBLA release, that version will have two modes, the full Saturn version and the 'updated' version to choose from.

Call it a hunch (a hopeful one even), but I reckon once the XBLA one drops it'll be hard to shift Saturn copies... at least I'm hoping so anyway! :D
    DoDonPachi Ressurection

Got mine pre-ordered at Amazon already. £26.99 with price drop guarantee. It's also released the very same day as Sturmwind on the Dreamcast, which I also have pre-ordered. Something to look forward to! :)

I agree to a point - there is a considerable "casual" interest in Silvergun. When I say casual I mean people who perhaps have a Saturn and an action replay and maybe aren't into shooters too much, but have heard about it. These people may buy it, but won't be into others like Battle Garegga, DoDonPachi, etc. I'd say these people are very much curious or perhaps just want to have such a renouned title in their collection. I think this demographic will be happy with the XBLA version - a lot of curiousity will be satisfied with the new HD port. Demand much surely go down with such increased supply?

On the other hand, it actually may make some people, who particularly enjoyed the new 360 version, want the original port. You never know! I thought that my lust for Garou AES would be satiated with the 360 version - if anything I want the AES cart even more having got the Xbox version!!

It will be intersting to see, but I have to say on balance, it looks like it will go down to a little below €100 - just like Dracula X when it came out on Wii - it dropped by quite a bit once it was availalbe on Nintendo's system.

That's exactly why I held off on the NGP. I had an AES and an MVS, which I had already been spending way too much on.

If you're spending hundreds on AES games, then NGP ones will seem like nothing in comparison. Sure the rarest of the rare will only set you back around €150 - €200. And there are only a couple at that price.

Most, complete in those lovely snap lock cases are costing me between €10 and €25 (for the fancier ones!)

There's only about 30 games in total. You could probably get a whole set for the price of two average AES games.

When I bought mine a few months ago, I reckon this is exactly why the seller was shifting it at a discounted price.

It's all up to the sellers really. If they all start doing that, the price will come down. Sure as you said, it's not rare. It's an inflated price as is.

I don't think it will though. Maybe slightly temporarily after the live release, but in the long run no. Collectors want originals. Shmup collectors DEFINITELY want originals and are prepared to pay.

Marvel V Capcom on the other hand wasn't an original, it was just a port.

I'm saying that as someone who paid about €100 for the game though. So obiously I don't exactly want it coming down in price! :D

True. I am one of these folks. I'm having my first 'Super Wife Evasion Tactical Combat Special Ops Secret Service Mega Black Label Densha de Go! Go!' training with Jason Bourne and Garrett from Thief tomorrow after work in relation to two certain Neo Geo titles I won on eBay yesterday. :o

Only exception being battery leakage...few horror shots on AO of cps2 boards where the battery poo'd all over the board. Thats where I got the tip of storing those boards upside down, so if the battery does leak, it leaks away from the board. No amount of phoenixing will save it if battery acid corrodes the board, so while o1s1n is 100% correct, unless you know the history of the board its best to either fit a brand new battery or contact Raz sooner rather than later.

I didn't f**k about with my copy of Silvergun last year - paid €140 for it with spine card  Well, in fairness, €100 of that was from my sister who wanted to get me a game at the time.

Regarding the NGP, it has some great bargains on there and a lovely set of games - I would love to get the Metal Slugs for example, but if I got a half dozen games and the console, would I get as much enjoyment and satidfaction out of it as opposed to getting one of those AES carts I've been after for years, say King of Fighters 2003, Last Resort, Samurai Showdown V or Art of Fighting 3? Thats the dilema.... I could even get a Neo Geo CD, which of course would open up some of the more affordable versions of SNK 90's classics like Viewpoint, Ninja Master's and Breakers...

I suppose, like my PC Engine confusion I've simply got nothing from the above list, and looked elsewhere for game purchases that are more straight forward. Mostly Saturn sh!t to be honest with you.

There's always something isn't there? :( Thanks for reminding me about that Enternow, off to flip that Aliens versus Predator board over!

One thing that always bothered me about the whole phoenixing thing is what do you do if Raz decides to stop? probably best to get them all done ASAP indeed.

I'm actually toying with the idea of getting a CDZ, but I want to see what loading times for non-fighters are like.

As for your wishlist, add an AES of Pulstar to it. Just make sure to have some valium on stand by for your bank manager (and a tranquillizer gun aimed at your wife's butt when the parcel plops on your doormat)!
