WHY WWE MAIN EVENT IS OFF THE NETWORK
by Mike Johnson @ 9:01 PM on 1/13/2015

During tonight's broadcast of WWE Main Event on the WWE Network, it was announced that next week the Network would feature a "Santino Marella Royal Rumble Lottery Special."
So, why is Main Event not airing?

Sources indicate that with the official launch of the WWE Network in Ireland and Great Britain this Monday, it places the company into a situation where they are unable to broadcast Main Event into those countries due to an existing deal with Sky for that series.

Since WWE Network cannot currently geotag programming for certain regions and block the series in the UK, we are told the company instead pulled Main Event until something is worked out.

As far as when Main Event may return to the WWE Network, we have no current estimate on that.

    F4WOnline:
WWE News: Main Event pre-empted next week

    Tuesday, 13 January 2015 17:40

It was just announced that due to contractual commitments that Main Event would not be airing next week, and instead there would be a Royal Rumble special hosted by Santino Marella.

According to sources, the situation is that with the launch of the network in the U.S. this week, Sky holds exclusive rights to Main Event in the U.K. market. So unless WWE creates a separate U.K. feed without Main Event, they won't be able to put the show on the network, unless they strike a deal with Sky.

The hope is that with two weeks until the planned 1/27 show that they can work the issue out.

Seemingly no one reads contracts in WWE

Good! Maybe now they'll put a proper Network Exclusive wrestling show on the air instead. Watching Santino taking numbers out of a tumbler with his cobra would be miles better than Main Event anyway.

    Not sure if serious.

They could get around this by naming the show something else and maybe adding different voiceovers or in studio introductions and airing them on the network, while main event remains exclusive to Sky.

In the 90's, wrestling challenge & superstars had the exact same content with different commentary tracks.

Didn't that happen with Superstars and another jobber show in the late 90's too? One was Saturday after Livewire and the other was on Sunday. I remember feeling very dumb after watching both religiously for ages and never copping it. :o

Good idea Monokne but WWE have so much branding all over the screen they would have to change that for the subterfuge to work. This is WWE we're talking about here where the simplest course of action is anathema.

Konnan recently mentioned on his podcast that WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has been in negotiations to announce for El Rey and AAA's Lucha Underground promotion.

Konnan said he didn't know if Ross would do a three-man team with Matt Striker and Vampiro or if they would rotate the three.

I like Jim Ross and Striker can be annoying, but please no.

I thought the reports from WrestleKingdom were that the 2 of them worked fairly well together?

Not my choice but Lucha Underground needs someone to draw eye balls.

    Wasn't replying to you directly.

Just Lucha Underground does need a centerpiece person. Alberto Del Rio may or may not being coming into the promotion. Konnan has been hyping Rey Mysterio for "years" too.

IMO they got out of each other's way chipping in and found their rhythm by show's end. JR was desperate for powering through his notes during each wrestler's entrance, but the more knowledgeable Striker peppered his info throughout the match, which is far more natural. By the end JR especially ramped it up like only JR can, and was fantastic. Shame to hear they're not calling future events together (or it isn't in place)

New Japan have a weekly hour-long TV show on a US channel called AXS. I think there's about a dozen episodes scheduled and they are made up of the best matches from the past few years. Josh Barnett and Mauro Ranallo provide the English commentary.

First episode is this weekend. Hopefully it finds it way onto Youtube.

That sounds like a pretty enjoyable team to listen to, in my opinion. People gave him a bad rap at the time, but I was sorry when Matt Striker was let go from the WWE. Any commentator that can make it seem more like a legitimate sport is good.

WWE are doing another series of Tough Enough to air on USA Network.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

It being on USA Network is kind of bad news as the last season was fraught with disagreements between USA and WWE on the cast of the season.

WWE did a gigantic search the Summer of last year for women for Tough Enough. No stone un-turned.

Wonder if it draw from unexposed NXT talent too.

All criminal charges against WWE star Heath Slater were dropped earlier today in Atlanta, GA, PWInsider.com has confirmed.

A misdemeanor arrest warrant was filed last month against the WWE star based on a 2011 claim that Slater allegedly tried to force a security guard, Corinne Oliver, to go to his hotel room during Wrestlemania 27 weekend in Atlanta, GA. When the allegations were originally made in 2011, Oliver alleged that Slater grabbed her in a chokehold as she escorted him away from fans during the Wrestlemania afterparty, but that she was able to pull herself away.

While the incident allegedly took place in April 2011, Oliver did not report it to Georgia police until June of that year. At the time, her attorney, Jackie Patterson, claimed that Oliver initially reported the incident to her supervisor at Allied Barton, the firm which employed her. The firm told Oliver that they would get the issue resolved and when they didn't happen, she made the decision at that time to pursue criminal charges.

Slater publicly denied all the charges when the arrest warrant was filed, stating they were "completely frivolous" and that they would be thrown out once a judge heard the evidence. Slater, at least in regard to the criminal matter, was correct.

Slater was pulled from the road once the arrest warrant was issued. With the charges dropped, he could be returning to WWE action as quickly as this week's TV tapings in Texas.

    Always seemed weird.

It appears that summer slam 2015 won't be in the izod centre in New Jersey as this arena will be closing within months. MSG maybe ?

Madison Square Garden, The Prudential Center, The Barclays Center and the Red Bull Stadium are being looked at as options.
