University College Cork also saw a rise to 181 from 184 last year. It was ranked 386th in 2006.
UCC is also the first Irish university to achieve a five-star rating in the rankings. The new rating system was introduced by QS to simplify the comparison of universities on an international basis.
It reviews participating universities on research, employability, teaching, infrastructure, internationalisation, innovation, engagement and specialisations.

UCC president Dr Michael Murphy said the ranking reflected the hard work of the entire UCC community and described it as an outstanding achievement.
The student body at UCC is around 20,000, with around 2,800 overseas students on campus.

    Anyone else see that? :P

Just to play devil's advocate, but I think the only thing that's keeping UCC in such a high place in the rankings are the Food Science and Engineering Departments. Both departments are ranked in the top 10 in the world I believe.

Certainly doesn't reflect any of his work anyway. Maybe if he took a paycut from his ridiculous salary and left that money be used to invest in...oh I dunno...education and services, maybe....then we'd rise up another few places.

I've had my fill of college but it's a necessary thing. New challenges.

Galway? Good stuff on getting a job! Don't be a stranger around these parts. You can be at the Boardsie meetups via Skype!

Ah, but the Kilkenny shower were miles ahead yesterday.

Does anyone know why my current fee balance is 9065 rather than roughly 2000? I'm waiting on repeat results to go into 2nd year if that has any bearing on it...

AFAIK you can't register for second year until 5 (working) days after the results come out. So hold tight until then. If you do pay now it should only be €2150 (€2000 reg + €150 capitation). I didn't pay mine but on one of the options, I think it was fees, it had €7150 or something like that. Which would only apply if you were repeating or the government weren't paying your fees.

Ahh that's alright so. People had told me that figure was pre-subsidisation, but I wanted a second opinion. Thanks a million.

Think its around the end of October. Better to register asap, even if it just the first part of choosing your modules and then paying later. You should have access to your modules on blackboard then.

Thanks. Ya I did that a couple weeks ago. Just trying to sort out fees now :/ Think we can pay half now and the rest before 31st January so not too bad.

    Congrats! :)

I graduated Wednesday, torn between being glad to see the back of the place and sad at having to leave it. UCC is great, I just wish I'd done a different course.

But shur it's done now anyway.

I graduated Wednesday too! I was in the 3:30 group.

    Congratulations :)

Yep i have mixed emotions too. I wont miss the stress of assignments and exams but I will miss my class and the general craic of UCC. As much as I gave out about it sometimes I genuinely enjoyed my 4 years in UCC and I do think its really good college! For any freshers reading this enjoy your time at UCC because it will be over before you know it, those 4 years flew by.

I think we should form some sort of higher council for the UCC forum. We don't need no mod to keep us in touch. Just throw a few of the oldies from the forum together and we'll be grand :P
