Before I posted I looked on google and I couldn't find anywhere it said the app was illegal. That's why I posted looking for advice I was led to believe that it was a beta site and like Netflix and when they have sorted out the bugs it will be going live

It's not ignorance. I can't find anywhere it says this app is illegal

Which android box have you? It works on my phone (s3) but won't work on my MK808B..

Its an Mbox. Got it from Amazon.de. Cost €70. Has XBMC on it as well. Great combo with Mobdro.

How is Mobdro illegal? I searched and couldn't find any reference whatsoever to any form of prosecution of or pending action being taken by any regulatory or intellectual property authority in relation to it. If it has actually been declared illegal by a regulating entity or authorised authority we should absolutely be sanctioned for promoting or referring to it but as far as I can see it isn't actually illegal.

I'm not however naive, I know that Mobdro facilitates links to streams of online content and that some (possibly 99.9%) of the streams it links to are unlicensed or pirate copies of the respective content but does that make mentioning the Mobdro APK any more inappropriate on Boards than mentioning the uTorrent app or any other torrent app none of which are actually "illegal" even though I'm sure 99.9% of all content uTorrent facilitates connection to is unlicensed or pirated copies?

The reason for my post is to understand how the rules relating to what can/cannot be mentioned on Boards are defined and implemented. Does something have to actually be illegal before we should refrain from referring to it or does it just have to have the potential to be used illegally before we cannot refer to it and who decides what terms qualify for potential illegality and therefore should not be mentioned? Is there a master list of terms that cannot be mentioned on Boards? I'd appreciate a link to it if there is.

If something only has to have the potential to be used illegally rather than actually being illegal in order for it to be a banned term on Boards perhaps all reference to cars or any make or model of car should also be included on the list of terms not to be referenced on Boards as all cars have the potential, and the majority frequently do, execute illegal activities such as driving at 41km per hour in a 40km zone or breaking a red light etc.

A little bit of clarity on what we can and cannot refer to and consistency in relation to how those rules/guidelines are implemented would be good to know.

    Respectfully,

    Ben

He's talking about the other streaming app mentioned

What differentiates between the two? Who's to say someone isn't searching for some film now in the public domain using the other streaming app, about as likely as a lottery win, but I'm not really seeing where the line is drawn. Neither app is on Google play anymore, both link to stuff which obviously has copyrighted materials available when they presumably shouldn't be.

Maybe the guideline for discussion on Boards should simply be that if it isn't on the Play Store it can't be mentioned, that at least would be something everyone can understand if not agree with e.g. there could be no mention of the Paddy Power APK as it's not on the Play Store.

It's not an easy issue to define or moderate and I'm not trying to be a smart ar$e, I genuinely want to understand where the line is drawn and more importantly how the line is actually defined.

Not a bad idea, problems with that I can think of. Kindle users don't have access to play store, so how do they know what can be discussed. Apps like the one you mentioned were on playstore until very recently, it's content then and now just as dubious, it didn't get worse once it fell off the store. Also at least one film television streaming app still has its upgrade and chromecast update available on the play store even if the actual app isn't.

Equally, there is so much discussion about said apps in this thread that surely they deserve a thread on their own instead of polluting this one.

Polluting! Hehe, you are probably right, we've veered off topic but clarity is nice (and also an excellent album by Jimmy Eat World).

The license for CamScanner is only 79c at the minute. Not sure if anyone's interested what with it being legal and all that. :D

Oh please lets not make this the rule. Do we really need more easily understood rules? Are there people scratching their heads perplexed fearing a strongly worded email coming their way if they happen to mistake an mention something deemed unallowed?
The truth is pretty much all of us know what's appropriate and what's not here, signs by it we never see links to porn etc in this forum and mention of streaming of copyright material is so limited and policed that it isn't a problem requiring more express rules.

I think we all benefit from the occasional grey area on this forum, whether it's that we all know about "that app" now or we've been given help to add xbmc streams etc. If it becomes "if it's not on the play store it doesn't fly" then this forum would be as boring as can be.

There are no grey areas relating to "that app" or XBMC streaming. It's quite black and white.

Legality issues obviously, just like the recent issue with the blasphemy laws.

Can we all just stop discussing the Apps in question. We all know that streaming movies/tv shows without paying for the content is piracy and is illegal, just stop it now.
