A bit OT, but why do you all not just use any accumulated credit on 3 to buy an internet addon so you don't have to topup by 20 quid each month? I usually try and get 2/3 months out of the 20 I top up with. First month unlimited data and when that expires I buy an internet addon for a fiver for another month and if I've enough credit, do the same after the topup expires.

Although you really have to watch it because 3 screw you on out of bundle data and their text notifications often arrive a week after your bundle has expired. That's what happened to me last week and they charged me 22 euro for 22mb of data.

I use texts and 3 to 3 & weekend calls too. Much handier for me to just top up. Now with all the apps its even easier :pac:

Because the addons are only 500mb per month and I use about 120gb per month. But the addon does suit some people.

Imagine the cost of 120gb if they were charging you out of bundle rates!!

Out of curiousity, what do you use that much mobile data on?

No internet at home and I'm usually remote connecting to my work desktop a lot.

You overshoot the 16GB limit by 104GB and nothing is said? Interesting, I could get away with tethering my phone and using it as my main connection, I get torrent speeds of about 200 kb/sec tethered to 3 and I could set an app like Taskr to switch on the tether for me.

Three got rid of their fair usage policy a good while ago if I recall. I'm pretty sure it is truly unlimited now.

Anyone using the new music sharing, discovery app by Irish startup called Soundwave?

Its really really good. its geolocation and sharing features are the best I've seen in an app like this.

That's a great app. Works a treat with Play music. Love the draw a circle round an area to see what people are playing.

Just from those that have the app installed I presume. No idea though really.

Yeah maybe, but it would be fairly sparse to begin with if thats the case, which I'd imagine would make early users just uninstall it, which leaves no data on there for later users, its a vicious circle.

Or maybe I should just try the app myself instead of making wild assumptions based on nothing.

I'm in the sticks and there is a few knocking about, you are right though, it's not overflowing with users at the minute.

I now have no followers and not following anyone, so I suppose it's pointless for me really but still a nice looking app.

I noticed this too... I ended up going into App Manager in settings and making it Force Stop.

Really annoying bug that they should have fixed before release.

Clearing out the dregs of a 3V card..

    avg0.jpg

Android developer Sega of America have an 'Anniversary Sale' on all their Sonic titles, at the moment.

They are, currently, all priced under €1.

I've never felt the need to purchase a non console Sonic release before, but Sonic The Hedgehog on a Nexus 7 runs like silk, the UI (user interface) is a treat for the eyes. The game cartridge bursts free of its packaging (Japanese) and hovers there, waiting for you to click.. very nice.

    gz99.pngSonic The Hedgehog €0.92

    bffg.pngSonic CD™ €0.92

All the other currently available Android Sonic apps are at the same price, click the developer page, below.

    Sega of America

Worth mentioning that Rayman Jungle Run is a cent short of a euro.

Rayman is back up to €2.49 for me, but got Sonic. Nice one.

In other news, a game probably chuckled at more in Ireland than most countries:

    Where's my Mickey?

Out now, 76c, hopefully its as good as Where's my Water/Perry.

Is there any way to use the 3 carrier billing to get your credit out to other stores?

Like, can I buy a voucher through play that I can use for Google wallet or something else?

Please post if you find a way to do that, there has to be something I havent thought of yet, been looking for weeks.

Google wallet won't even work here though right? On the phone I mean. I can defrost the app with titanium backup but it just kicks me back out of it when I launch it saying it's not available in my country.

I pay for stuff with google Wallet sometimes but only as a substitute for Paypal, my phone doesnt come into it.

I was thinking could you buy an app and get a refund for it (you have the option to refund an app within 15 minutes of buying it). Would that get refunded to your wallet or to your credit? I'm thinking it would go back to your wallet as I imagine refunding to credit could be messy. Worth a try. Also, does it use your free €10 credit that you get for topping up by €20?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

Good idea, I'll give that a go.

I don't know about the €10 free credit though, I just get the normal €20, do you have to do something to get the extra €10?

About a month after you top up by €20 they will give you €10 bonus credit that expires after 30 days. That credit is limited in what you can use it for. I don't think you can use roaming for it or to buy bundles so it may not let you use it for this either. Download this and it will give you a break down of what you have left including if you have any bonus credit.
