Ahhh so it turns out I'd one exit left on Star Road, which then opens up Special World which I haven't done yet. Excellent!

Just spent a lovely 45mins in the company of Tempest TxK on the PS TV.
Honestly, the game may have been a Vita release but it belongs on my 42" plasma!
Colours popping, music thumping, me... not dying... amazing!
Not sure what other Vita only titles are playable on this thing, perhaps Wipeout is the only other one worth the effort, but if it winds up being "only" TxK, it's worth it!

edit: Apparently it's also available, as a demo at least, on the Oculus Rift DK2, I know we have a few owners here, could they let me know if it is as good as it looks?

It's such a shame Atari were dicks about this game and slapped Jeff Minter with law suits. Imagine if he got the go ahead to release the planned PC port and being able to play it at 4K.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,796 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

That would have forced me to buy a 4k capable PC and a 4k capable display, thereby rendering me both broke and divorced.
Jeff said it best when he remarked that he couldn't wait to see what wonderful things Atari had planned for the franchise.
One report is Minter accused Atari of becoming a "copyright troll", and said TxK for the PC, PS4, Oculus Rift, GearVR and Android platforms "will now never see the light of day."
    Absolutely disgraceful.
Now, from a copyright stand point Atari were protecting their property from Jeff making money from their IP, Tempest is not in the public domain.
But Minter was happy to come to terms with Atari, particularly a good thing for Atari as the only games in the last decade with their name on it was Tempest 2k.
But Atari were dicks and cast him aside with a cease and desist order.
And this is a great quote from Minter on the matter
“I await with eager anticipation the awesome version of Tempest that ‘Atari’ must have shortly forthcoming to have got so twattish about TxK,”

    Advanced Warfare isn't that bad.

    Ghosts is absolute poison though.

    I'm just getting lazy.
    My retro stuff is upstairs,
My backside is on the sofa downstairs, in front of the PS4/WiiU....
Maybe I'll play Steel Battalion tomorrow.... (a tomorrow that never comes :( )
    Then plays pap like Blops3

How's the heat up in your attic? That was one thing that always put me off using my games room in the winter, bloody box room was freezing!

In the summer it's a sauna, and the light in the windows makes it impossible to use, must get blinds!
In the winter it can be chilly, but I have a rad up there and it's not as bad, plus there's a oil heater too.
The use of a decent fleece can also keep ones hands from shaking with cold, helping one's Raiden DX game immensely!

The heat from my PC keeps my room warm :)

I kind of miss the old 360 for the same effect it had. So efficient.

That's not good for your games or consoles dude, the less heat the better

I can see a time when I'll build a room out in the back garden, make it my man cave, give over the attic to the twin burdens of my wife and son.

Had a good first crack at the Super Mario World Special stages last night.

Gnarly and Tubular were pretty handy. Got stuck at the end of Way cool though, I keep losing my cool (!) and jumping off the rope at the end to avoid those fuzzy dudes. Rage quit after attempt number 4. :pac:

Oh, it will take you way more that four attempts to clear that one!

I spent much of the Halloween weekend playing Chrono Trigger for the first time. Yes, envy me.

I had never played a jrpg before but I had an idea of what they're about from watching my much younger brother play the Final Fantasy series on the PS1 nearly 20 years ago. It's a genre that I ignored in favour of action games. I chose Chrono Trigger because it seems to be widely regarded as the best game in its class for the snes. Reviews are universally positive so if any jrpg was going to grab me, it would be this one.

Anyway, I love it. Great visuals, great music, great characters, great story, great dialog. Great everything, really. The battles feel epic and don't feel like they require grinding. I must have played around 15 hours this weekend. I'm on Magus at the moment but I had to socialise yesterday so only had time for one fight with him. I expected to lose first anyway because I inevitably attempt the wrong moves in the first few fights while I work out the pattern. Hell, I even managed to lose to Ossie despite the obvious clues. It was only when I used a move that damaged the entire area and displayed decreasing HP that I copped on.

I'll need to wait till next weekend before I can play it again.

    Currently playing...
    Unchartered4
    until dawn
    PS4

    Metal slug anthology
    R-type final
    PS2

Fired up Ikaruga on the GC for the the first time in ages the other day, kicked my ass.

Do envy you quite majorly. Chrono Trigger was the first game I deliberately spaced out over a few weeks as I didn't want it to end. Was still over all too quick.

To this day I still play "Frog's Theme" if I ever want a sudden flare of goosebumps.

Chrono Trigger is indeed fantastic. Just a wonderfully whimsical adventure, pretty much the pinnacle of JRPGs of the era before they became experimental and weird in the 32 bit era (which was no bad thing).

    Oh dear...
I remember playing that infernal game for ages.
The drawing of the screens is quaint, but f**king Thorin sitting and singing about gold... I could have stabbed the git but the parser wouldn't allow it...

Stab Thorin in his gold loving heart
    Sorry, do not understand "Stab"

I had that game on tape for the zx spectrum 128k. It didn't take me long to rage-quit out of it and go back to playing Dizzy.
