I was wondering why the title sounded so familiar.

In the Hunt is obviously by the same team as developed Metal Slug, the hero sub is even seen as a wreck in Metal Slug!
But, it's the animation quality, the weighty weapons, it is very similar DNA, sadly no sequel though

Was messing about with some bits and pieces I haven't gone near in a while - dug out this lad, my biggest childhood dissapointment. Game.com!

Amazingly, it fired up straight away. I was more than sure it wouldn't. Definitely needs a clean, really manky. D pad is fairly knackared but the buttons are all 100% fine. Touch screen is also still really responsive.

The LCD is complete dog shite and anything with motion is a blur (and was back in the day) - but lights out and the inbuilt solitare actually work better than I remember.

The voice samples and sound in general are also far too good when compared to the screen.

I'm half tempted to pick up a few more games for it, only ever had Badman Forever and Lights Out. Rather incredibly, it had releases of Resident Evil 2 and Duke Nukem 3D. I Actually get the impression that there's a half capable machine hiding underneath a rubbish LCD screen.

Anyone else have one of these when they were a kid? Did you also think you were going to be going online with it and playing Duke 3D in some way comparable to the PC version? 😂

Not sure if the ROM leaked but Konami was making a symphony of the night game for it as well.

Probably doesn't count but im about half way through the system shock 1 remaster.

I know its a prettier game than the OG but my God the lack of handholding is like going back in time.

I thought you were having me on there, what in the feck 😶

Theres a video of it running on the frontlit model (mine is the earlier one without any light at all). You can see what I mean, it's like there's a playable handheld game there trying to break through a practically unusable screen.

Check out how it actually looks:

Finally put to bed Dragon Quest Monsters so the Vita is out again. Playing two psp games on it, Hammerin' Hero and Brandish. Hammerin' Hero feels like a long lost PS1 2.5D platformer than never got a western release. It's a lot of fun but also quite challenging. There's a lot of gag manga humour here.

Brandish is a PSP remake of a SNES game that confuses every one that played it as when you turned the entire screen turned 90 degrees with you. On PSP this makes a lot more sense. Early days but this feels like another Falcom classic.

Hammering hero is a sequel to hammering harry

Mad as I just bought the PCB this week . Saw it for cheap and memories flooded back . I Totally forgot about that game.

Yep there's a few games in the series, all that I've played have been pretty good action platformers as you'd expect from IREM.

Finished up Hammerin' Hero. It's excellent and well worth trying if you get a chance. It's tough but stages are very short and you'll have it beaten in 4-6 hours. I also appreciated the R-Type cameos with the R9 appeared as a boss and the final stage having you control a Macross style Mecha that can transform into the R9.

Must give it a go .

got street of rage 2 PCB so playing the god damn life our of it . Ahh what a game , mechanics , graphics , soundtrack .

It has traces and place where pins should go like a sega megaplay jamma board , the pins just aren't there!

Strange ,one of the rims must have the game on it .

Still makes me wonder if I can solder pins to it and then use carts on it .

Given how impressed I was with Doom Resurrection on the Megadrive/32X/Mega CD, I thought I'd try giving it a proper full play through on Ultra Violence to see how it handles loads of enemies on screen.

Up to level 7 now and it's really really a lot of fun. I can't believe how many enemies it's able to throw at you and still run well.

Even better, you can remap the controls so that the L&R shoulder buttons on a controller like the Retrobit M30 become strafe. Absolute game changer.

Really recommend giving it a go if you have the hardware. There's an even better, updated version now called 'Doom CD32X Fusion', which uses the Mega CD to run the game too (with Resurrection it's just playing audio). - just need a CD writer to burn the disc for it to go with your Everdrive & Rom.

So, got a lend of a Quest 3 in order to play Half Life Alyx. I'm a few chapters in, and, wow, just wow. What a showcase for the tech, it's incredible looking. It plays brilliant (love the reloading and backpack concept), the visuals are astonishing, the story highly engaging, the sounds highly immersive…I can't fault it. I played it for about 90 mins this morning (that's really long for me at this stage of my gaming life), and then was walking around the kitchen briefly thinking I should be controlling things with the controllers…that's how immersive it is. I'm playing it on the Quest 3 as mentioned, wired via USB as it eliminates any lag/judder etc in a game this demanding.

After this I'm going to play through Star Trek Bridge Crew again (really enjoyed that back when I had a Rift CV1), then I'll finish off with Lone Echo, absolutely loved that too.

It would be a great move if they ported it to PSVR2. VR is too niche to have platform exclusives and it sounds like people without PC VR are really missing out.

It's also frustrating as it's a true sequel to half life 2 that sets up where the story is going next and it's locked to PC.

Finished Sin and Punishment last night. What an absolute thrill ride of a game. It's a little bit easy but it's such a rush and an incredible spectacle.

Let's revisit with spoiler tags when you've finished the game :)

Such a shame it increasingly looks like Alyx might be the only VR game in the forseeable future with that kind of scale, budget, fidelity and ambition. Not surprising given increasing disinterest in the VR medium, but it stands proud as a killer app if ever there was one.

Even more importantly it's proof of Valve's continued single-player chops - it's very much a proper, full-fat Half-Life game without compromise. Given the mounting evidence that another Half-Life game is imminent, even in its likely non-VR form I can't wait to see what they have cooking.

I know this game gets credited to valve and they are now basically a part of valve but I think it's interesting that it wasn't the usual valve team that made Alyx but the Campo Santo team that made the likes of Firewatch.

While you can certainly see the Campo Santo influence especially in the writing, the Alyx team was much bigger than just that studio and included lots of Valve veterans. Not to mention Valve's famously less regimented team structure. Either way, it was welcome evidence that currently Valve still has an in-house team more than capable of delivering excellent single-player games, after years of Steam and multiplayer focus.

And done. Incredible, absolutely incredible experience in VR. Valve absolutely still have it. A fully worthy entry in the franchise, and what an ending!
