The Moons of Jupiter are visible whenever Jupiter is visible (as far as I know anyway, I've always seen them when I've looked at Jupiter). They aren't visible if our own Moon is out, though.

That was a nice pass. Seemed to last longer than the 3 minutes that Heavens Above said.

I timed it at 4 minutes here in west dublin, clear sky from west to east.

I managed to get this shot i got - nothing specular but is a lot better that my previous efforts! Click for larger

Was lucky to get this as the trail appeared from out behind a huge cloud for about 10 seconds before disappearing again behind the tress! Was in a perfect viewing point for a view for almost horizon to horizon if the clouds had of cooperated ;)

That's a very nice shot Longshanks100, I love the way you can see the star in the image too.

It's a good image to have, because there are 13 people at the tip of that line; the most ever in space at the one time.

Thanks! Never once thought of it that way! Totally approached the whole thing from a photo opportunity point of view. (I'm gate crashing this section of boards!)

The uncle said he seen the ISS shortly after half ten, and 10minutes later the shuttle. I tried to tell him they were docked. Nope he seen them! Then his wife backed him up. 'Dusty, we seen it, it wasn docked'. So i just said right so and walked off. Was there somethin else out that night? or did the just see a plane?

Possibly another satellite, however I know none that would be bright enough to spot and in the same orbit, but perhaps your uncle saw a satellite in another orbit and thought it was the shuttle? Either way, they defo are docked.

There's a nice pass of the ISS tonight, and the weather is supposed to be good in the Midlands and East.

The NASA realtime data suggests that your times are off by a few minutes there JammyDodger.

best passes for tonight i can see are ..........

Start 20:29 pm From the West ........ Overhead @ 20:34pm
End 20:38 pm In the east

That pass is probably too early as it maybe too bright here

Next pass is as follows >>>

Start 22:04pm From the West ........ highest elevation 65 Degrees
    ( almost overhead )

    End 22:14pm In the east/southeast

i think these times are accurate , please correct me if they are wrong !

    Hope its a help :)

Good luck and lets hope for CLEAR skies !!

That's odd alright. My times have come from both Heavens-Above and a computer simulation; I don't want to say that NASA's times are wrong (they have been a few times), but I'd be careful about using them.

My times are pretty similar to Stargate's times, too.

I find heavens above to be far better at the times. NASA site does not even give the 22:07 pass for tonight!

    http://www.nlsa.com/rectangular.html

and am updating the kepler elements every 20 mins or so

    Kepler elements here >>>
    http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/

    maybe the site
    http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/tracking/

arent updating as often therefore its an approx time given , i could be wrong , just a thought

The handy thing about Nova for windows is you can Fast forward and stop and review times and update the Keps at anytime you want , its a fab progy ;-)

I downloaded Nova earlier, but the site it said to use for Kepler elements required you to be reviewed. Is it the same with the above?

    -JammyDodger-

First off , sorry for so late a reply . been a hectic day sorry .

Are you using Nova now .

Ive had my computer set up to download the keps for a long time now, it does it at a mouse click , so i dont actually go to a page and download form the site , Nova does it internally for me ,without me having to visit the actual Celestrack site so to speak

    You can go to
    http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/
and download thetext files manually -JammyDodger- . just click the relative elements you want .ie http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/sts.txt
and save the file to your desktop .Then when you run Nova you can go to the menu bar in the prog

Keps elements / Disk file update / Manual update from file
( select the text file you saved ) and off you go

Love to know if you sorted it .
Am not long in -JammyDodger- , i think theres a pass at 22:30pm

must have a qiuk catchup on the latest posts here .
    Hope your well -JammyDodger-

let me know how you got on ok

    Regards
    as always

How exactly do you set it up to do that? Is it from Space-track.com?

They've granted me an account anyway, so I'm guessing I just put in my username and password for space-track.com and it does it for me?

Ah yes, thanks. I've just done that now and it seems to have the ISS tracked perfectly. I'll try to set up the online update with that website now though.

Just about! It seems like it's a tricky little program to use, I'll be messing around with it for a few days I'd say!

    HaHa , -JammyDodger-

Im delighted your getting there with Nova , its a really fab progy , its great being about to fast forward , rewind , stop , pause the Orbit :)
i simply love the programme -JammyDodger-

i get the kepler elements from
    http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/
    not from from Space-track.com

They are very up todate , nice fast site , been using that site going back to when mir was launched , and even got a mail from Dr Kelso who runs that fab site when i joined all those years ago , a true gent , nice guy and deserves a lot of credit for running a great site -JammyDodger-

Keep at nova until you have it perfected , its well well worth it , even showing dayligh , sun and moon positions etc etc , i suppose its whatevevr works for you personally , and Nova does it for me haha

    -JammyDodger-
In Nova go to Menu Bar .......
    Select Kep Elements
    Scroll down to Internet Update
    Scroll over to Configure Download

In this window you will be able to set the auto download for the keps

    In the remote URL put
    http://celestrak.com/ or your Space-track.com
Click the " EDIT remote files " button .
it will open the window where you select which keps you wish to download :D

After you have it setup you will never have to do it again .
the prog runs away and your like a pig in s**t LOL

To update your keps then all you do is

In Nova go to Menu Bar .......
    Select Kep Elements
    Scroll down to Internet Update
    Scroll across to Start Download

    thats it

Hope this bit helps you -JammyDodger-
