Not a shop or store though, still good that it's going to create 50 jobs. They most probably will locate down finisklin ind estate won't they more than likely .

EDIT: - just heard on oceanfm news that its going to be located on the Sligo IT grounds at first...

Not many shops will hire 50 people, this is just what Sligo needs to encourage businesses to set up here.

I think 50 will be end result , I think (if I heard correctly) it will be in staged recruitment , about 30 first of all but 50 in the end (hopefully)

hope its going to be one of these firms in for the long haul and not just going to be one of these firms around for a short while and then start laying off people and eventually shut down - its a strange ol' climate these days for businesses re stamina, and it doesnt help that they seem to be a US company that could pull the plug as quickly and move somewhere else at any time and that its nature is software which can be a fickle business to be in.

Still .. must think positive onwards and upwards and not be looking at it negatively eh?

Also when I look at the profile of the company, these employees will be a lot better paid than the average zero hours, minimum wage shop worker.

hate this zero thing these days - i used to work in shops years ago and the remuneration packages were quite good , with room for commission/bonus on top of your wages - wasnt even the terminology of "zero hours" when I was working back then in them days

New Ford main dealer opening in Castlebaldwin. Porter Ford advertising for staff in the Champion today.
Motorpark /Hendersons must be losing the dealership, doubt if there's business for two of them in a small county.

Currys are moving to a bigger unit in the retail park. Harvey Norman are then gonna take the unit Currys are currently in and the 2 units next to them.

Any more news about Harvey Norman opening in Retail Park, AC? Is it definite do you know?.

Is Porter not taking over HENDERSONS. At least thats what I heard.

That's what I thought but I was told by someone in the trade this evening that they're opening in the old Hunt Motors garage.
Could be complete BS for all I know.
    Who are Porter Ford?

Porters tried to buy out Hendersons but it fell through apparently. They are now setting up a Ford dealership in Castlebaldwin. Two brothers Raymond and David are setting it up where the old Suzuki garage was. Hendersons is reported to be turning into a food plaza/filling station type place.

No idea when I'm afraid. Don't know if it's definite but I know people who work in Currys Sligo and that's where I heard it. They seemed confident it was happening and not just a wild rumour.

3rd filling station in a row on that road? And with Mullins and supermacs beside it? Wouldn't seem the smartest...

    Thanks for that.

The Lidl in Cranmore has a planning notice in the window...shop to be demolished and refurbished

I guess that's gonna happen once the Finisklin one is up and running...don't really see why the old one needs refurbishing though

    Yes, I thought the same.

Are not all Lidl stores more or less the same size/format?

This store seemed a similar size to most other Lidl stores???/

Maybe volumes/spend are higher than I think?

sure they already sell fuel so just potentially adding a shop.

I think its more than a shop thats rumored - more a Obama plaza type place. Hard to see with Supermacs already being beside it

Same layout but can be a lot bigger, haven't been in the Sligo one for years but the bakery section was very small anyway.

Knocking it down seems drastic though.

I've went by it a few times at lunch and has always been very quiet, but it is huge.. so maybe there was more sitting at the back.

Ya I only looked in yet driving by and it’s massive. Work colleague paid 3.25 for a take away latte in it the other day so sounds expensive.

Wonder what’s going into the old Boots. It’s been closed up a long time
