    I would hazard a guess that most cycle lanes require maintenance because they are being used by HGVs and being dug up at every opportunity to stick in facilities. If they were being used by no-one but cyclists, they would need a sweep twice a week, and nothing more.

    they tend to be a thin layer of tarmac (certainly where they arent part of an existing road) so roots and grass tens to grow through them fairly quickly +1 one on sweeping as well that would be a vast improvement
