Yeah, I prefer this version. Retains that slighly melancholy feel throughout which is what I liked about the track. The skittery stabs that come in a 1.07 form a good break.

what do you guys think? I kinda went a bit different to whats being played these days and went a little hard house/ handzup. soundcloud.com/brandonrileyofficial/hard-house-brandon-riley-fly-away-original-mix

Not my cup of music at all but it's well produced, nice melody and bass. Only thing I'd say is on the intro the kick could be slightly lower, It's too much at the start imo.

I'd second that. It could be offset bu having a short intro, just some simple pad or short riser or something. Personally I 'd like a little bit of firt on the bassline as it's a little to clean sounding for me. The build up to the first drop gets a bit muddy as well. Still, plenty of pump and power :)

This is my current track I'm working on, aiming for a summer vibe to it and the style is outside my comfort zone :D . Still a WIP. I'm planning to add a lead synth and some extra percussion elements to it but I'd appreciate any feedback on the track as it is :)

Pretty nice and mellow. I like the little vocal scratch and the horn element works well. The main kick that comes in at 0.43 sounds a bit overdone to my ear thouugh.

Thanks for the feedback Mordeith, much appreciated ;) A few more hours work done on the track and barring any urges to change more of it, this will be the final version. I've toned down the kick at 43 seconds too and adjusted the levels throughout the track (was hitting red on quite a few parts).

but long and reptitive for me, but then again, that can be a mood thing sometimes, very well done overall though would go well with a short cinematic film or something

Yip, sounds better now. I was wondering on that brass note, is it a straight sample? There's a nice elactic feel to the note. Is that something you did yourself?

when youre mixing have all your levels on -6db and put a limiter on the master, then compress where necessary, helps avoid the redness

That's one way of doing it alright. Personally I prefer to reduce individual tracks at the mixing stage and try to avoid putting anything on the Master in possibe. Of course it's all depepndent on what kind of sound you're going for.

well i put the limiter on the master as more of a saftey net than anything else, sometimes if you hit the wrong button or do something stupid, you can nearly blow your speakers (from my experience)

i put it to -6db straight away, personal preference...i know some people also drop their levels right down to -52 and put an a saturator on the master, along with drum busses etc...appernetly it keeps the track sounding together and gives it an analog sound? personally i dont think its worth all that effort though

Funky ass bassline and nice snare fills. The splash is a little dull for me. I like the melody that comes in the second part of the track and while the analog drums are cool I think the kick could do with a bit more bite.
A few vocal hits scattered throughout would add a bot of interest as well. But yeah, nice groove overall.

As you were typing that last night I was working on that track a bit more. I think overall I've beefed it up a bit, I got rid of the splash and used a different synth and changed the melody. Let me know what you think https://soundcloud.com/scoob89/scoobz-0615

how did you do the drums? drum sample or manually put together or live drums? because it sounds really good that part...when the second verse comes along you could try introduce a new element abit sooner maybe but not a big deal
could be just my ears but is there something extremly high picthed going on? you mighten be able to hear it but i think i could, maybe try cut off anything above 18/20,000 just incase......

    awesome track

It's now called 06.15, soundcloud wouldn't let me reupload it with the same name again. https://soundcloud.com/scoob89/scoobz-0615

A bit of both, I recorded the drums on their own using a couple of mics using pro tools, I would then sample the kick and snare using the drum rack in ableton add some reverb, gates, eq etc. I would do something similar with the hi hats but instead of using a drum rack I'd just make loops with them and again add some eq, reverbs gate, etc. Oh and thanks :)

Yea, I like this rework. The whole track gets going quicker and the melody while it kinda seems like to shouldn't work with bassline, is nonetheless pretty sweet. I'd have it on my BBQ party playlist for lovely summer days. :)

I decied to submit a track to a blog a fella from UCC is doing where he invites submissions of covers of songs from 1914. Seeing as I can't sing or play any instruments  I went more down the remix route. You can see the blog entry in the link below along with a bit from myslef on how I approached the track. If you wanna skip all that the direct soundcloud link is below as well.

Nice track overall although the vocals at the start or end don't really work well with it, imo it would sound better without them. Love the synths on it especially the ones that come in at 2.30.

Great sounding kick and the pink pong percussion is cool. The snare/rim shot is a bit weak sounding though. I think something brighter and punchier would add to the track. Siren is a guranteed winner and well used in the track.
The whole thing is begging for a good rap vocal.

    Good rap track,
could do with some more general mixing etc... but the track itself is fine as a hiphop beat, you could probably sell it to someone (as in a rapper)
