I wasn't really sure about it until around the 1:30 mark and then it kicks in. I went and listened to the original as I wasn't familiar with it and this is a really good remix. Excellent stuff!

Nice and poppy with a sweet deep bass. I reckon the kick is lost under it all though. To me this is expecially evident in the drop at 3.31. There is a lovely tom fill and then it all comes back in but the kick seems to get loss with that heavy bass. Might do with with a little eq to help it punch a bit here. Or maybe a slight sidechain to the bass.

Great old skool drum sounds and very well put together. Dreamy stuff (as the name implies)

I really like the vibe of the track and really like the bass and drum production. I think that you could improve the hi synth that comes in around the 1min 8 sec mark and give it more flow and rhythm. Just my opinion. Nice work

    Appreciated.

Another drum n bass drumming thing where I recorded myself drumming and chopped it up with samples and loops etc. All thoughts appreciated.

I think this one a bit rough n ready myself but it came out OK....Do you folks think it's worth pursuing the concept?

Do you like Bluetech Paul - reminds me a lot of Bluetech. Worth checking out if you haven't heard of him.

    Thanks for the comment SuprSi.

I am familiar with a small amount of Bluetech's work, Sky King.
I liked the "Honey in the Heart" EP. Lush.

Fair play on the video. How do you find the Roland drum kit?

I'm pretty much open to all styles. I work from a very blank canvas with tunes, and don't really conform to the one style. I've also been criticised for not developing "a sound" in the past.

Anyway, more to come soon hopefully.
Great to have a platform like this where people give genuine feedback.

Definitely worth pursuing I reckon. I much prefer the more melodic sections i.e. 1.17-2.20 (reminded me of Sub Focus) and 5.19-end.
I reckon you have the bones of great track there. If you could beef up the drums and add a good bassline it could be epic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Sky King

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

I can't 'beef up' the drums unfortunately without putting each drum though its own separate track and EQing it independently... and i am NOT going down that road!! It's time consuming enough as it is already :)

How do you find the Roland drum kit?
Grand. Pretty amazing technology really. It's a few years old now though - i am sure that the modern ones are even better.

    Understandable :)
You may be doing this already but you could use multiband compression on the drum track to target lows, mids, highs independently. Even layereing another kick sample under your exisitng track could add a bit of low end oomph.

I'll try the compression next time for sure - not a bad idea, thanks for that!

Layering is not an option because the drums are played and not programmed there is slight variations in tempo!

WAV to tape to mp3 to wav. Nineteen years ago it was limited.

Ah, that old jungle sound. I was never a massive fan myself but still brings back fond memories.
What equipment were you using to produce back then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,499 ✭✭✭dasdog

AWE32 with 8Mb on board, tv and tape deck radio. Radio > small input soundcard, load up the memory with breaks, parabola bass mid nineties.

My latest, and first ever attempt at writing a progressive breaks track, even though I've loved the style for years. I really enjoyed writing it actually as although it's still very much a progressive sound, it allows for the addition of more elements and layers.

    Reviewing as I listen :)

Sounds good so far. It would sit well as in intro track on a bedrock mix. Nice deep bass pad, although I'd like to hear that a little bit more in the mix. The delayed crash seems to be slightly out of time (to my ear anyway)
Good subtle build from 3.40 to the break. Nice lush pads with good use of slow filter sweeps. The crash at the drop sounds a bit better there so maybe it's not so much of a timing issue (I rekcon it goes of slightly too long though, maybe a single crash hit with reverb might work better. Just my own personal preference)
    Great stuff overall.

Good solid beat and I like the full sounding clap. Auto-tuned vocals work well with the overall vibe of the track.
I admire what you're doing with the male vocals and I know you have received negativity towards their inclusion in your previous tracks. I cannot say that I am in favour of them myself but fair play for staying true to what you want to do.

Thanks for the great feedback as usual mordeith. I noticed that the delay seemed a tiny bit out of sync towards the end, even though that's not what I had planned, but decided to leave it in there anyway :)

A new loungey housey number from myself. I decided to upload the full track this time around rather than just a preview

Certainly caught the lounge vibe there. Lovely etheric vocals and I like the reverse to the second clap. Funky bassline although it sounds a tad 'dirty'. Have you distortion on it? Nice summery feel overall.

Finaly got around to finishing something myslrf. Kind of a light trance-tinged house number

Cheers man. Yeah there's something weird going on with the bassline. When's it played without the kick it sounds grand, but when the kick goes along with the bassline it starts to sound a bit off or something, or distorted, can't really find what it is, at first I thought it was compression but it doesn't seem to be the problem.
