Yeah, swing looking good Charlie. Looks like you've gotten over the trauma of that tip you were trying to implement in portumna :)

Charlie well done looks far more athletic as they say.

I'm working on standing taller with driver.
pro was telling me my posture is fine for irons but falls apart on driver.

Very balanced and controlled is the first thing that jumps out at me.

Balanced is right, for such a committed downswing whipping through the ball.

A pro would probably say you are flat on the backswing, and steepen on the downswing, and you stand up slightly at impact maybe correcting the slightly bent posture at address.

A naturally talented player I'd wager

    Appreciate the feedback.

My standard shot is a high draw.
My miss is a block right and Big Miss is the dreaded hook.

I will try to get more upright especially with the driver and go 85% power for more control. Picked up a book on getting in the slot through impact which has some pearls and is something to work on too.

With all due respect I wouldn't change anything based on feedback here. First of all the camera angles of the video are not correct for analysis of your swing, looking slightly down on you, so potentially what others are seeing could be down to the camera placement. Secondly I've been told I pop up a little at impact; this is entirely natural as I start my downswing and weight shift by pushing of my right foot. I generate a lot of power from my feet and lower body this way.

I think it's more that it looks like that on video rather than what it actually is. I feel like everything is pretty much spot on right now :)

But thanks for the thought :D

A good test is to stand over the ball ready to hit and then see if its easier to lift your heels or your toes. My guess is your toes will pop right up, but it may all just be angles.

Great swing. Maybe a tiny bit over-the-top at the start of the downswing?

Great tip. I did have my weight on my heels. Guess that's down to my shanking issues from a few years ago that weight on the heels is the guard against them.

The last round I played I took my normal stance and then before I hit, tried to get a feeling that my weight was transferring to the middle of my feet. Started striking the ball off the tee much better, so thank you for the advice :)

[dont have the confidence yet to try it with my irons, lol]

as regards the heels, I was standing in someone elses divots for that shot so heels were a bit lower, lol :D

From last year Rikand.... at least your not blaming someone elses divots anymore :D

A fine day for it. Only been out 5 or 6 times since around this time 2012 so some things need improving, namely hip turn and to give it a bit more oomph on the down swing! :)

What were you playing off in 2012?

    6.

I've slowly been on the rise since leaving the junior days, nearly reached 4 in 2008 but got sick of the game and gave it up for a while. Don't really get much time to play these days with college and stuff and moving country soon so don't think the handicap will be coming down in the next few years anyways!

Here is me swinging a 6 iron, just back into golf after a few years out. Started swinging again maybe last week or so. Going to stick with it this time as I am really enjoying it more now than I did in the past.

Bit of a push as I seem a little trapped on the way down due to a bit of a slow clearing of the hip but overall striking is pretty good at the moment.

Not sure if this is the thread to be making this post. I was watching Person of Interest tonight and Jim Caviezel who plays the main character was playing golf in it. What a swing! I recorded the swing, but I dont know if I am allowed to post it incase it infringes on copyright for the TV Show. Maybe some mod could inform me :)

I was reading a bit about him. Turns out he never played golf in his life until he filmed the Bobby Jones movie and he learned how to play for that movie. He has quite the swing :)

My swing at the start of the lesson last night.

John Daly overswing, but not as bad as it was in the past.

I'm also getting a little trapped on the inside, making my bad shot a push or epic slice.

    Lots of work to do.

Lads - looking for a bit of help.
Are these swings OTT - I've been trying to drop inside, but very hard. At start balls going crazy left. But these ones are ok / fade.

    Sorry light not great.

    Thanks

Very hard to tell. Not sure but at a guess it's the club pointing across the target line at the top. I've the same issue. It's generally down to separation from the arms and body.
I now try and keep the connection by feeling the right elbow close to the body during back swing. Try placing a head cover under the arm and keeping it the there during the swing.
The OTT is the effect not the cause!

It's pretty tough to tell from the video fix but it does look like you're coming from the outside in at impact alright, but that could just be down to camera angle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭Rippeditup

Very hard to tell as it is pretty quick and impossible to put in slow motion to look at the hands.
The club looks a touch inside on the takeaway which could be leading to a bit of OTT (as mentioned hard to see) but working on a wide start will help the position as you release the club and clear the body

Thanks lads I think it is. Must do in better light.
yes coming inside very quickly as ripp said.

These weren't bad. But I go out further on a bad one.

It wasn't raining so it was short weather today :) Some eejit

Managed to get a few videos of my SW, just wanted to see them for myself mainly :D
For someone that couldn't take a divot last year, the thrill of seeing that sod fly up is something else.

As I said to a playing partner this week, I'm not really concerned where the ball goes, it's the divot I'm looking at ;)
His reply... Ya, your divots remind me of your ball flight last year

As i said last time we played, very similar to where i was last year, almost a carbon copy at address. Like me too much hunched over the ball, very hard to get out of your own way for a proper release.

Not that i have got it right yet but this is what i have been working on, it might help (enter disclaimer here)

Yeah, you look quite hunched over in that swing. Also look quite shallow on the backswing. Couple of questions: what's your bad shot? Two, your waggle has a shut clubhead, are you doing that on purpose?
