Why don't the IRFU encourage Tag only teams within existing clubs?

Its great to play in the summer but I'd love to play it for a full season.

Don't know, this will be the first time Tallaght RFC host the IRFU Tag.

We're running IRFU Tag here in Enniscorthy this summer
Also hosting a Tag Festival on Easter Saturday.
If there's enough demand I'd organise a league all season - currently do a ladies only Tag on a tuesday night - been running all winter

Coolmine RFC in West Dublin are also running tag rugby this summer. Mixed tag, two nights a week.

There is an information night tomorrow night (Tuesday 24th March) in the club at 7pm. See http://www.coolminerfc.com for details.

    Just an idea mods
Is it worth setting up a seperate sticky or thread solely for Tag Rugby?
I know true rugby affectionado's might quibble with the soft Tag rugby concept.
But there is no denying Tag Rugby (both the IRFU and volvic versions) is bringing Rugby to a much greater audience and encouraging participation of people who would never dream of playing or watching rugby

    Hi!!!

I was just going to post a question about tag shorts and I said I might as well post it here.

I am starting tag in Naas this year (22nd April - training starting!) adn I bought shorts on the tagrugby.com website and I got them in the post the other day.

They only seem to have mens shorts (which I had ordered) and they are awfully baggy arounnd the middle making me look huge and highly unattractive:mad:!! Can one get womans tag shorts because I really dont like these??!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 436 ✭✭eeyore2502

I am involved in the IRFU Tag in Tallaght RFC and on the IRFU website you can only buy different waist sizes, it doesn't have the choice of male or female.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭DaveMR

The canterbury shorts come in lots of sizes but not specifically mens / womens shorts - more unisex
One suggestion you could try is find a local seamstress/mender and get them to sew velcro strips on to a pair of shorts that you do like (but show them the tag shorts that you have first so that they put themon correctly)

The problem with that is that most shorts have pockets and tag shorts cannot have pockets.

    Here

They have both mens and womens sizes. The difference between 2008 and 2009 shorts is the 09 ones are longer. What's you team name, I play for the Scrumbags...:p

I remember the early years with the belts and all the broken and dislocated fingers. Enforcing pocketless shorts was the best thing ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭DaveMR

I best throw my belts in the bin or I'll have Wexford General Hospital full of broken fingers on Saturday night :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,545 ✭✭✭Luckycharm

Yep there is more injuries from Tag then real rugby- mainly finger injuries, plus so many people turn up at tag having done no excercise for quite a while and not bothering to warm up so you get quite a few pulled muscles :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Yup i have broken my baby finger 3 year ago in tag, Was in a Full Arm cast for 8 weeks and had to get 2 ops, just cos it got cought in someone shorts while training, Happened to the same finger the year after just a crack and then the following year broke it again, it now looks like a Banna but meh i'll be playing this year.

Enniscorthy RFC are holding Open Nights on Thursday 21st May and Thursday 28th May
This is an open invitation for anyone to turn up and see for themselves how Tag Rugby works, how much fun the sport is and get a taster of the summer ahead at this great venue.

Entry to these events, as the title suggests, is of course free-of-charge.

The night will start at around 6.45pm where participants announce their presence to the venue Manager and if not in a team, get placed. Tag shorts will be provided on loan for the evening .

They then get the chance to give it a go in one of the continual games that are applicable to their ability.
The Bud Light Tag season in Enniscorthy RFC starts on June 4th.
For more details check out www.irfutag.ie or pm me for more details

Quick reminder of the forum section of the Irfutag website. Its a great spot for individual players to find a team in a tag venue (Incl Enniscorthy RFC :) )close to them
Also an opportunity for teams who are short a couple of players to make a good squad
Its really busy at the moment. Worth a look if you're considering playing

The tag rugby season kicks off this week around the country. I'm a referee with ITRA (www.tagrugby.ie) for the last 7 years, so if anyone has questions about the laws of the game, please do ask.

I hope I'm not too late, but a simple question to you guys should clear it up.

Are there any tag rugby leagues which haven't started yet?
Am looking at maybe June, Tues nights, northside Dublin, but we are flexible.

Was trying to search the sites there and they are pathetic for giving information on leagues.

    Thanks.

    Hi guys,
I'm in the process of setting up a Gaelic Tag league in the Iveagh Grounds in Crumlin. Its due to begin when the Tag Rugby finishes.

The idea is the same as tag rugby, mixed team, tags instead of tackling, no contact, we've taken out kick passing for lads, and goals and points are worth more for girls.

We're hoping to make a big deal of the social side of it as well, table quiz, bands, BBQ, speed dating etc.
We're launching it next week, fingers corssed the website is up and running, and we'll be having 1 or 2 open nights so people can see whats involved and try it out before signing up.

I'll post again with details of the website and of the open night.

    G&R

On the point of it being non-contact, are there goalkeepers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Goalies are optional, in practice it works that a last-man-back is the best option. Goals, which can only be kicked, hence can only be scored by girls are worth 5 points, girl points worth 2, and lad points worth 1.

Defo no contact of any form

How fit do you need to be to play tag?

Can you "pick up and play"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

U dont have to be really fit, the top teams would be very fit but as u go down the leagues it decreases, the rolling subs makes it easy, u can go out run as much as u can and then come off and take a breather, and go back on again when ur ready

    Hi,

I have played in 3 venues this year and have seen some of the most shocking referees ever.
I know it is a hard job but often they are kids who either don't know the rules or are bullied by teams.

Also I played on astro turf where the try line is around a meter from a rigid metal cage. It's just waiting for someone to badly injure themselves

Any comments (good and bad) on your venue?

As for the last thread, it is not too late in the season to participate. Head down to your local venue and see if anyone is short a player.
This time of year people are out with injuries, on holidays etc. Some teams are crying out for someone to just stand on the pitch so they don't forfeit.

With who did you play in the astro turf the ITRA or Astro leagues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 ndolan

The pitch which is dangerous is in Coolmine RFC
I have slammed into it after pulling out of tackles on the line & seen plenty more do the same

I played in IRFU venue last year & refs were really good. I didn't agree with them all the time but at least they weren't kids & kept control of the match

That is the ITRA in the Astro leagues there is no tagging once you get over the tryline which are quite big so people are not running fullspeed and do not go near the barriers.
