I tried a few close ups with an iphone, this is probably the best one so far.
This was handheld, so maybe with a tri-pod I could get it a little sharper. Watch is a Damasko DA 44.If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

If you want to try macro photography for cheap (without buying dedicated cameras - and more importantly expensive macro lenses) you can try clip on macro lenses for the iphone:

(I'm sure Aliexpress has something that is 50% as good for 10% the price too if you just want to try it out).
The main thing when taking really close up shots is 1) focus distance (your iphone won't focus that close with its default lens), 2) stability as you pointed out and 3) getting enough light to actually light up your subject when you get really close
Good fun though - looking forward to seeing more shots of your collection up close

Another find in my Grandfathers stuff
Belonged to my Great Grandfather,have no information on it,remember him showing it to me along with the medal i posted before.I assume its relatively common piece,loads of different makers at the time.Still a nice piece of history both family and watch related.0 -

A good day today, new watch. This brand really appeals to me. I have been after one of this specific model for ages, trying to find one in good condition, box and papers and get a good deal on it. I have the staff in Weirs pissed off trying this on, and ultra thins again and again and again. Super complex watch so need to get it already serviced or spend a fortune. These are not to be purchased new so Watchfinder in the end, and the service from them was great, 10/10 condition, Date pointer, day, month, moonphase, small seconds and power reserve.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calander 151842A Cal 924. I am not a leather strap dress watch kinda person usually but this has a sporty case and sporty size, and a grey sunburst dial that takes on the colour of the light. Superb.

Excellent points, and I appreciate them from you. Yes I think the dial is busy too. And I went for the reserve model for the busiest one there is. Its perfectly balanced but only at certain times and power reserve settings Its makes more sense in my collection overall as I have so many 3 handers and no dates.
Yes this is the thicker 13mm version its from 2013 when the tenancy was toward size. I tried the newer version which is slimmer without the reserve, but this one sits more chunky and has that...."very complicated" watch stance on the wrist I was after. The ultra thin was the default choice here and a stunner. But for me, who rarely wears a shirt I find the ultra thin a little too subtle and that size of watch I will save for "Calatrava" time. (Thats a real Calatrava JMcM not one I pretend I had suddenly).
I have gone balls deep in trying to create a balance in my collection. I have a spot for my solas, I am re buying a limited edition seiko diver, and then I need a ultra refined dress watch or maybe a Nomos for that bauhaus look. I will swap the datejust for a skydweller if the oppertunity arises although from an aesthetic point of view they are very similar. I and trying to find a digital watch or anidigi also that fits in.
I will update the SOTC once I am more happy with it.

I am a little disappointed......i was planning on being the purchaser when you get bored of it!! Its heavy hitter piece though, a watch that one would love to have in ones collection.Julian Nice Tattoo wrote: »

I recall that vaguely.....i think he went on about how a Calatrava was his dream watch for a while. Then two videos later it was all how he has owned everything from 5 quid casio up to a patek calatrava!0 -

Casio Tough-Solar AQ-S810-1AVEF
Arrived today from Amazon. Cost just under €50 inc. P&P and I got it rather than the version Argos sells for €42.95 because I prefer the white numerals/indices.
This is it alongside my great little MRW-200H-1BVEF which is currently on sale at Argos for €11.49.
Slightly bigger but it's those lugs that really make the difference.0
