Got a tattoo done over a year ago and never was overly happy with it... mainly thing is that it is a bit wonky in one corner. Can't exactly go back to the shop to get it sorted, so was wondering what do people suggest? It would be a fairly minor job for a tattooist... I know, I know that I should go and actually ask one myself, but I don't want to waste their time if they are going to charge heaps for something relatively small. Should I just wait till I get my next tattoo and be done with it?

whew, not been around here in a while, beyond the show you mine thread.

just wondering, i've had the same lip ring in for about 3-4 years now, and changed it last week. just about killed myself changing it, all fiddly with a small ball, took about 45mins while watching tv/wrestling with the mirror etc.

anyway, been a bit tender for the last few days, and took the ring out today, and was greeted to the ever charming sight of red blood and yellow puss oozing out once the ring came out. spent a while squeezing all the gooey stuff out, before about 20 odd mins soaking it in sea salt (with toilet tissue, not got any cotton here at the mo), before thinking... maybe the puss was actually my white blood cells doing the whole infection fighting thing they do. should i have tried get rid of it? i remember steve (snakebite) saying a good while ago that you shouldnt let the piercing close up with an infection in there, as it just sorta keeps the infection stuck in there.

any advice/recommendations, etc? not really established any trusted piercers over here, the guy i did go to has moved down south, and tbh, im more familiar with the local surf shops and staff than the tattoo and piercing ones around here.

(and emm, for anyone who doesnt know, im posting this from christchurch, new zealand).

whats the ring made out from? Maybe the material is agitating the piercing?

I'm personally of the belief that the only jewellery that should be in piercings is the implant grade stuff(cant remember the technical name) that most parlours originally pierce you with

    Hey guys.

Hoping to get a latin phrase tattoo’d on my chest - under one of the mamaries :P - in the next few weeks.

Its ‘non est vivere sed valere vita est’
And it means ‘there is more to life than just being alive’
(literally ‘life is not to live, but to be well’)

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of artists with a particular gift for script :)

    Cheers

Right, just wondering: anyone have their nipple AND lip pierced?

Cos I'm wondering which they found to be more painful?

I know that everyone's got different pain thresholds but I always like to ask people just out of interest before I go get something done.

    Thanks! :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,477 ✭✭✭✭Raze_them_all

They both feel like having a 14g needle through yer flesh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

Heya. Have both done. Nipples pierced 4 times, lip pierced twice (just have 1 piece of jewellery in each)

Eh lip piercing is like a sharp pinch, nipple piercing is like a nipple cripple. However everyone has different pain thresholds so you may think they're a lot worse or better than my description.

    Lol fair enough!!

I didn't find the last one bad at all, was too busy watching it get done, so I'll trust you on it that they're similar! :)

    Thanks

Thanks Will, four times is impressive! I found it like a pinch myself so if lip's similar I'll be happy out :)

Getting my nipple was much worse than my lip. Its why I haven't gone back for the second one. And it bled ALOT. But I think that was just me, I don't think its normal.

Last thing on the lip piercing:

I've read about healing times in the other thread, just wondering how long people were in pain afterwards in terms of eating etc? [in cases with a normal, healthy piercing obv]

Just that the bf is coming home in 3 weeks after being away for a while :p Not wincing every time I go in for the kill would be nice ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

If you get it done over the weekend you should be ok... i think. Depends how well it heals i suppose. Just no movie-esque dramatic smooches. Probably best to direct this question at a professional piercer cos Im just going on what Ive experienced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭jenga-jen

Lol I'll bear it in mind! Thanks again :) That's me all questioned out for the minute...

Lol will do, just meant I'd just have to go get it done and stop sitting on the fence.... so I did :D

Delighted with it and yis were right about it being like a scrape/pinch so thanks!

    Now for the healing...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

Healing in the main should be cool. Only possible issue is if you swell a lot and the bar isn't long enough to accomadate it. If that happens get back to your piercer

Hey, I have a question about kissing and tongue piercing. This is probably a stupid question, but does the month long ban on kissing apply to just kissing on the lips or is it only kissing that involves tongues? (sorry can't think if a nicer way to phrase that!)

Just have a quick question on a new tattoo. There's a mistake in it. An apostrophe where there shouldn't be one. It's tiny though and by the looks of it it could be fixed quite easily. Would a studio be happy to fix it for free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Maybe if you go back to where you got it done, but I'd highly doubt any studio you walk into will do it for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭punk_one82

Well yeah, I meant the studio that I got it done in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

    Oh right :p

Just give them a ring and see. They don't bite. Hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭punk_one82

Thanks. I'll give them a ring in the morning so. :)

Ok so i've had my helix piercing for 7months, more or less. No problems with keloids but it does seem to get infected a lot, but its not like i'm not taking care of it! Does it just not like me? :( Should i just take it out?

    Ok, 2 questions:

1st: lip piercing is in around 9 days and doing the usual crusty healy thing with only a little bit of redness around it. Just wondering (curiosity) does anyone else find their piercings always itch while they're healing? My last 3 have done it and the lip is starting the itching now :p

2nd: any chance we could sticky this thread please mods? Seems to be a great place for people to ask questions and it's a pity to have to keep going to look for it :)

Itching is a good sign, means the cells in the area are starting to re-generate and heal :)

Thanks for that, I just hate how its that silly tingly itch that's nowhere and everywhere

Pride feels no pain and so on...

Just needed to double check it's not just that I'm a weirdo while healing!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

my ear currently has the same itch so fear not :)

Thinking about getting a tattoo during Easter, my first. Its a stupid idea but I really like it. I think I'm the only one but that doesn't bother me too much.
I'm gonna get it starting just under my shoulder and running down to a small bit past my elbow. But on the opposite side, the inside of my arm like. Just wondering how much this could hurt?
    Thanks:D

    Hey Ix Deadmau5,

Hard to say in terms of how painful it's going to be. It really depends on the your pain threshold. Also, depending on who you ask (and I like to ask a lot of questions ) they'll tell you bone/muscle/soft tissue's the most painful.

I've only the one tattoo so someone else might be able to shed more light on it but I know I went through the same thing before I got it.

Ultimately though, when you want it bad enough, you're willing to put yourself through it for the finished product.... like an arty version of childbirth, once you're through it you kind of forget the pain (mostly :p )

    Hi

I've got a few tattoos now and while they all hurt a bit, none were unbearable pain. My latest one was on my foot which was probably the most painful. I've hear that the underside of the arm is very tender though, but it's hard to say for you as everyone has different pain thresholds. I agree with Jenga-jen though - once the work has started no matter how much it hurts you're hardly going going to stop :)

    Good luck though

    Guys,

I'm looking for a place in Dublin to get my wrist tattoo touched up (it's a treble clef). It never really healed great and one of the lines is a bit wonky!

I won't be going back to the original studio so I need recommendations of artists who can do good clean lines!

    Cheers

Whats the orginal place, There are tonnes of good places in dub, connected ink, wildcat, snakebite, classic ink etc.

Go back to the studio and ask them, shouldn't be a problem and im sure they will sort it out for you

Oh it was done ages ago, and I'd rather not go back to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,084 ✭✭✭hunter164

Why not? Explain the situation and I'm sure they'd understand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭jenga-jen

    The saga continues!! :p

Lip pierced coming up on 3 weeks now and I went back after 2 weeks to get silly long bar taken out since it was getting in the way of eating and generally driving me mad!

I got a continuous ring in though and I'm just wondering did anyone notice when they changed to a ring that their piercing got irritated? Talking a bump below the hole inside and the front is back to leaking the usual crusty-making stuff...

Just wondering if I should just go swap it for a short labret bar for a bit and leave the ring til it's better established?

Cheers in advance if anyone can shed any light on this :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 94 ✭✭NikNakOoo

I know my navel hated having a ring in the early stages... it would get knocked around more, which made it angry. Same thing would happen with your lip. Did the piercer recommend the ring?

*sigh* I'm so jealous of people with lip piercings. Stupid work. :( (end rant)
