This could be a real banana skin for Kerry, long injury and absentee list, so so league and an underrated and in-form Tipp team that must be relishing a shot at the AI champs. It's the ideal time for Tipp to be playing us and given they have home advantage I wouldn't be surprised if they caused an upset tbh, even though we have always pulled through these kind of games in the past.

What is it about Kerry supporters? It's the same every year. Some of ye are trying to convince us to put the mortgage on a Tipp. win.

Sure we are always odds on favourites so we need to do something to manipulate the odds

Pity the game against Tipp isn't on TV,the games they have showed so far haven't been great and I think the Tipp V Kerry game could be a decent game of Football.

Who is currently out injured for Kerry?

I think we have a great chance to run you close this year but beating Kerry is a much bigger task then even beating Cork. Your just too strong and experience, even compared with other Division 1 and 2 teams it really is a surmountable task.

Looks like Colin O Riordan is out for us as well, hip problems.

James O'Donoghue, Johnny Buckley, Marc O'Sé, Pa Kilkenny, Galvin all missed the club championship games in last 2 weeks. There's around 10 players injured in total from what I hear and they are mostly staying at home to rehab instead of traveling to Portugal.

O'Riordan would be a huge loss to Tipp. In all honestly, Kerry would expect to win, but given that Tipp are at home especially, it will be far from easy. Tipp have given Kerry big scares in the recent past with far weaker squads than the current one. 1996 in Clonmel was a very tight game until Dara O'Cinnéide scored a late goal. 1997 in Tralee (when a certain Brendan Cummins scored a cracking goal), 1998 Munster Final was a good, tight game(Declan Browne was at his peak and scored 7 or 8 points) and then of course there was the infamous game in 1999 where Gerry Murphy's "goal" was given despite the fact that everyone clearly saw it hitting the outside of the stanchion. Kerry won by 6, but Tipp were robbed to a degree at least that day.

Not sure but Fionn Fitz could well be another who didnt travel - has had something with his leg the last while. Was first sub off in the Crokes game against Shannon Rangers. Don't think it's too serious but been niggling him the last few weeks apparently. As I said before injuries to the backs are a serious concern, because if an injury crisis hits in the backs, we could end up looking at a very inexperienced defence.

Donnchadh Walsh went off injured early enough in the Mid Kerry Legion game, which I think is a worry because if he is out then the alternatives are a good way below what he brings to the table.

The whole goalkeeper situation is a bit awkward as well - Based on his appearance on the bench in the league Shane Murphy looks to be 3rd choice for Kerry at the moment. However he started the first round county championship game against South Kerry (where South Kerry didnt score any goals) Then in the 2nd round against Foilmore a week later, Kealy was back between the nets and conceded 2 goals, 1 of which was clearly a keeper mistake and the other was in the category of "possibly could/should have done better" Both goals were as a result of high balls into a tall full-forward, which given his history of issues with high balls are a concern. The fact that the first and third choice Kerry keepers (at the moment) are at the same club definitely isn't ideal. I had heard that Kealy had a knock which was why he was on the bench for the South Kerry game but it's a tricky situation.

Wait which 2 Keepers are at the same club?

    Kelly - Legion
    Kealy Kilcummin
    Ryan - Rathmore

Or did Ryan move clubs? Or is it a different Shane Ryan?

EDIT: I'm an idiot. Shane Murphy not Shane Ryan.

I think Shane Ryan IS the 3rd choice keeper at the moment. He was training with the squad at least, maybe Shane Murphy was also, but I doubt it. Ryan is seen as the heir to the No.1 jersey in the not too distant future so I'm not surprised he's in there.
Was talking to an eye-witness to Kealy's performance in the championship game with Bally-Foilmore. He was back to his worst under the high ball apparently. Strange, because he was actually ok during the league and looked to have improved that aspect of his game a lot. I'd rate Kelly well above him anyway as I've said before.

Kealy was shocking under the high ball. In my opinion at fault for 2 goals.

Yeah- I'm contemplating taking my first ever trip to a hurling game today!

Go for it, its a windy day , but showers should hold off later in the evening.

Last years game was gutting, but the quality of hurling wasn't bad. The drop off from Christy Ring to Nickey Rackard and Lory Meaghar is fairly significant though and the standard there was poor.

I ended up strolling down halfway through the First game last year and picked up a free ticket, so might chance my arm and go for it again this year.

Tickets are for the Hogan Stand only, and available at the ticket shop at Gills.

Hope the lads finish the job today. Would round off a great year and lead to the first appearance in what, 12 years at the top level next year..The 2003 game with Limerick in Tralee should have been the start of something instead of the end. Hopefully a new era for the hurlers is dawning.

Best of luck to the hurlers, hopefully they can finish off a great year. Will be a massive disappointment if they can't get the job done!

1-10 v 0-08 up at, hopefully ye can keep ahead, it would be nice to see yer hurlers get recognition for all their work in the form of a trophy.

Should me further in front. Last couple of frees for Derry were soft.

1-20 to 0-12 in the end - Derry were fairly poor, but congrats to the lads for gaining promotion to the Leinster Championship! They've beaten Carlow and Westmeath already, so who's to say they couldn't make the provincial quarters next year?

Great day yesterday in Croke Park, the game was no where near the quality of the finals of the last two years but the most important thing was winning yesterday and that's all that matters in the end

Well done to all involved, its been a great year for Kerry hurling, long may it continue.
